<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">How lopsided was the Nets trade for Vince Carter last December? Peter Vecsey thinks it was the fourth worst in NBA history! In his column Friday--after taking the obligatory shots at Isiah Thomas--Vecsey ranks the Carter deal behind only the two trades that moved Wilt Chamberlain and his worst ever, a 1980 Draft Day trade. Golden State sent Kevin McHale, the No. 3 pick in that draft, and Robert Parish to Boston for Joe Barry Carroll, the No. 1, and Rickey Brown. </div> www.netsdaily.com
As a Nets fan..I must always thank Raptors management for a lovely in season gift...but honeslty people dont understand the term addition by subtraction. And that is what the Raptors felt needed to be done. Carter clearly didnt want to be their anymore look at his effort pre-trade and post trade the change is to dramatic...Kidd is great and yes it had alot to do with the re-birth of Carter..but the re-birth also had alot to do with simply just a change in scenary. The Raptors and Carter had run its course and it was time for a change on both parts. So I dont blame the Raptors for the concept of addition by subtraction. I think where the Raptors went wrong is they may have held on to Carter a split 2nd to long and his stock took a serious drop at the start of last year. And the teams that were once knocking at their door to give up quality pieces for Carter change their minds and now when Raptors management was the ones making the call to make the deal, the other GM's werent answering or at least not with anything that would help their team now or in the future. So the Raptors had to settle with Picks...dont look at the players in this deal the Williams boys & Mourning their were all filler. The Raptors never had them as part of their plans, well maybe before Zo said he wouldnt ever play for them they might have figured he could be a on-court mentor for Bosh, but other then that the players meant nothing more then contracts to make the deal work. It was 2 picks for Carter. And even tho the deal was a loss for the Raptors...sometimes you have to chalk up the loss and build for the future and that was probably Raptors' thinking......honeslty, Carter in Cananda at that point in which he got traded was nothing more then a box office draw for the Raptors...I honestly dont Carter playing half a** in a place he didnt want to be..was going to mak much win/loss difference on the court.
That trade hurt. What were they thinking?! Any GM but Rob Babcock could have got at least a decent trade. Shoulda traded him much earlier on.
