The NBA announced today that Baron Davis, Jason Richardson and Troy Murphy will represent the Golden State Warriors as All-Star Balloting begins today, giving fans worldwide the opportunity to vote for their favorite players as starters for the 55th NBA All-Star Game. The 2006 NBA All-Star Game, which will air live on TNT, ESPN Radio and in more than 200 countries, will be held at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas on Sunday, Feb. 19.

Fans have the opportunity to vote in NBA arenas, 19 languages on the NBA.com Network, approximately 130 Loews Cineplex Entertainment movie theaters in the United States, and through mobile phones at t-zones using T-Mobile service or wap.nba.com for any wireless carrier. This year’s All-Star balloting partners include T-Mobile USA, X-Box, NBA2K6 and AOL.

NBA All-Star 2006 is a week-long celebration that enables fans to experience the thrill of the world’s greatest athletes playing the game they love and features a full slate of community enhancing activities and fan festivals.

A total of 120 players - 60 each from the Eastern and Western Conferences - are listed on the NBA All-Star ballot, with 24 guards, 24 forwards and 12 centers from each conference comprising the ballot. Voters select two guards, two forwards and one center from each conference. The 120 players on the ballot were selected by a panel of media experts who regularly cover the NBA. This year’s panel included Steve Aschburner (Minneapolis Star Tribune/ President, Professional Basketball Writers’ Association), Ric Bucher (ESPN the Magazine), Ernie Johnson (Turner Sports), Mike Monroe (San Antonio Express News) and Sam Smith (Chicago Tribune).

The 2006 NBA All-Star Balloting program continues through Jan. 22, 2006 and updated results for the Eastern and Western Conferences will be issued regularly leading up to the unveiling of the All-Star starters Thursday Feb. 2 prior to a TNT doubleheader. Following the completion of fan voting and the starting line-up announcement, the head coaches in each conference will vote to determine the remaining All-Stars in their respective conference, which will be announced Thursday Feb. 9 on NBA TV when the Los Angeles Lakers face the Dallas Mavericks. </div>

I homered it, but here's my picks:

    Baron Davis
    Jason Richardson
    Kevin Garnett
    Tim Duncan
    Yao Ming

    Gilbert Arenas
    Allen Iverson
    Ron Artest
    Lebron James
    Shaquille O'neil

Yeah I homered it with the Warriors players. I wanted to give some love to some other players like T-mac, Steve Nash, Kobe Bryant, Elton Brand, and others, but the ballot kind of limited who I could pick. Bummer. I think Jrich would most likely lose out to guys like Kobe, T-mac, Ray Allen, Supermanu, so I hope the coach picks him as a reserve. For some reason the ballot counted T-mac as a forward since that's what he's been playing lately, but he's also a tall shooting guard.

The extra vote went to D-Miles. He's been impressive so far.

Yeah, but coming from a person that LOVES Dunleavy it's kind of hard to tell if you're serious or not. You're welcome.

I don't LOVE Dunleavy, but I like his game. I don't like the results thus far, but he seems to be coming around. [IMG]

I like the fact Dunleavy is a smart basketball player. He'll probably be a head coach someday.

Pietrus gets you results a bit more, but sometimes he just plays really dumb like wtf kind of dumb? I think that Pietrus will get basketball someday. He's not lazy, he just never had the proper coaching or a formal system to develop his basketball skills as like other players. A good college will help a basketball player unleash their potential and since basketball is a game of mismatches Pietrus could be deadly using his athleticism and his length once the game comes to him. Pietrus wants really badly to do well for this team and be like Kobe or T-mac, so I think one day he's going to get it. He's been studying game film and trying to work with coaches so he can reach as high as he can go. Mentally, he can be quick like not biting on fakes as much as Biedrins does on defense, but he's not a very natural decision maker in a half court or open court setting with the ball.

I think Pietrus' real upside is Ricky Davis, but that's pretty good still. Dunleavy could be like a Toni Kukoc, only not as tall and not as good.

But how far can basketball IQ take you? It's only one of the key factors in a player being good. Dunleavy has the smarts but not much ability I feel. Pietrus has the ability, but not as much smarts as Dunleavy. Athleticism, strength, attitude are also big factors, none of which Dunleavy has showed of late.

He's not aggressive. Which is why I make comments about him not having the stones to "want to be great". His body language also can be misleading as he seems he doesn't care or he's giving up or he's got no passion for the game. He won't ever be confused with great right now because great players will carry a team and step up and I think he doesn't do enough not because he can't, it's because he lacks confidence and therefore isn't aggressive. If he's missing shots, he'll disappear because he doesn't want to be a detriment to the team and he'll try to find others to set them up for better shots (unfortunately he can't create opportunities to get a scorer isolated or wide open like Baron can). A lot of Dun's shots don't even come close to drawing iron even though the guy shoots with such text book form. I mean I'm hoping this isn't the case of Dunleavy imitating Bobby Sura, who looks good shooting, but draws rim or air frequently.

A good future all-star type player could very well be Biedrins or Pietrus, but if you look at both those guys, athletic and big as they are, they just lack the fundamentals and basketball I.Q. to be effective starters. Biedrins especially is playing really dumb lately. I have no clue why he continues to bite on pump fakes and reach in and just make horrible decisions on the defensive end. I still think he'll be an impact player as he matures because he's focussed off the court, he's got excellent coordination, great hands, good leaping skills, long arms and some okay offensive talent to start out (drop step move, lefty hook). But who is to say that Biedrins might end up being Stromile Swift rather than Kenyon Martin, Marcus Camby, or Jermaine O'neil. These young guys who weren't coached properly early enough always take forever to develop.

Here's food for thought btw: Dunleavy did put up 32 points in Jason Richardson's absence against Philly in the home opener in 2003-2004 season. Maybe move his butt to the bench and convert him into a Mickael Pietrus type role? Dunleavy can score, but sometimes he gets caught in between passing and shooting the ball, or he just throws it up without really taking a better look at the basket. If he's taking some midrange shots he'll probably feel more comfortable with longer distance shooting.

I say forget having Dunleavy force himself to take a back seat role to everyone else on offense. Let him be the show in the 2nd unit. Then we'll see for sure where he gets most comfortable on offense. If he can't perform there, then I'm all out of excuses for him. But yeah we need some kind of scoring presence and one that will want to take other shots besides the outside shots that the backcourt is setting him up for. I don't think Dunleavy is a good outside shooter unless he's already in his rhythm. Something isn't working for Dunleavy and it would be nice to find out why that is. There's definitely some changes in his shot selection now that he doesn't have the ball in his hands as much and he's not running in transition as much.

Jrich should get in the all-star game after guys like Manu Ginobilli, Andrei Kirilenko, K-mart and even one-dimensional Wally got in.

It's ridiculous why Jrich shouldn't get there. I mean you can argue he doesn't shoot free throws well or he doesn't get to the foul line more, but he's quite an all around player for a shooting guard. He's consistent, he puts up big numbers every night, he's exciting, he's become very good defensively and he's very clutch. He's one of the reasons why this team is winning this year. Winning teams should produce those all-star players, but maybe Jrich is doomed to become Mike Bibby or Chauncey Billups.

I wonder if Dunleavy is a ladies man...I guess with 44mm, you can't NOT be a ladies man.

I'd say he's more of a lady man, not a ladies man.
