<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> Just a few weeks ago, coach Scott Skiles said Michael Sweetney had "a ways to go" with his conditioning. Skiles voiced no such disapproval Tuesday of the 6-foot-8-inch, 270-pound forward's stamina.

"It's kind of silly to even talk about it," Skiles said. "I just want him to keep playing well."

Sweetney's three straight double-doubles on the team's recent West Coast trip earned him a fair amount of praise from Skiles and teammates. In three games he averaged 19 points and 12.3 rebounds.

Sweetney, in his third season out of Georgetown, moved into the starting lineup against Seattle on Friday. By season's end, he could become the first Bull since Elton Brand in 2001 to average a double-double.

"If I'm out there staying out of foul trouble and playing aggressively, I can do it," Sweetney said.

Foul trouble is his nemesis, but at least no one is complaining about his weight and quickness—for now.

"I'd like to see at some point in his career for him to get really fit, because I think he would be one of the better bigs around," Skiles said.

We can only hope he continues to develop. The early results are encouraging. But i can understand Skiles' comments about his conditioning. from what i've seen from him so far, he sure looks like he's carrying a few extra pounds with him :-)

It’s obvious he is not in the best physical shape, but he has been that way for as long as I can remember. He was the same way back when he was with Georgetown I don’t know if he always weighed the same amount of pounds he does now, but he was always a big guy. He is a horse who his team road to victories when he was in college. We need him to lose a couple pounds 15 would be pretty good in my opinion. However, I would not push for him to change his body build that much he is pretty comfortable with it, and can play well with the weight he holds so I don’t mind it as much. It is not the same situation that Curry was in where his weight hindered him when on the basketball court. Sweets can rebounds, score, and move up and down with his weight.

he looks like he can play at his current weight, and i certainly don't want him to lose too much, because it's probably part of his game too, but he could lose a few, and not just t obe in better game shape. Also for his health. A big guy with too much weight takes a lot from his knees for example. Just look at Shaq...

Yes, he is a very good fit so far. Mike Sweetney might be out of shape, but he's playing 24 minutes a game this season and is producing. In fact, in the mere 24 minutes he plays, he leads the Bulls in efficiency. I think the Bulls need to do themselves a favor and put him into the starting lineup. You're not going to miss Curry that much - Sweetney is doing what Curry did last year and then some. He's becoming an up and coming post-up threat. I can imagine the Bulls' 39.4% 3-point shooting has something to do with him drawing doubles and kicking it out. Calling him an excellent rebounder would be an understatement. This is a 6'8" player who ranks second in the league in rebounds per 48 minutes in only his third year in the league. Being out of shape is a correctable problem. He's made strides in this department since his first year with the Knicks, and he's a hard worker so he should be able to reach a solid conditioning level eventually. Once he gets in shape and starts playing 30+ minutes regularly, don't be surprised if he becomes one of the league's most efficient players.

I think Sweetney has the potential to be something like Karl Malone, I'd love to see him buff up, and work on his all around stamina. Who knows what kind of trouble he'd make then.

Yeah i see where your going with this. I doubt he'll be as good as malone. But hes still young, thats good. I thought he was a bit older than what he is because of all that extra weight, it makes him look older in my opinion.

I hope his current performance is no fluke and he can indeed keep it up, coz if he does it makes it a lot easier to forget about curry
