"We are the next David Robinson and Tim Duncan" says Villanueva <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> PHOENIX -- Raptors rookie Charlie Villanueva believes there is something special developing between Chris Bosh and himself on the court. "We're like Tim Duncan and David Robinson," Villanueva said, following the team's morning shootaround at the America West Arena. "But a younger version. I really feel that." Villanueva will, no doubt, be criticized and derided for making such a bold comparison between himself and Bosh and the celebrated San Antonio Spurs duo, who won two NBA titles together. However, the New York native made the statement more out of optimism and excitement than as a prediction. </div>Source
lol good to see that chemistry is developing b/w him and bosh IMO they are the future of the raps and should be solid
lol.... i fail to see who would be Robinson and who'd be Duncan. Neither one of them can play D or have Hall of Fame written all over them, so the Robinson comparison is out the window..... and I won't even bother with the Duncan comparison. It's nice to see CV so confident in himself and Bosh, but it's never a good idea to compare CV and Bosh to one of the greatest frontline duo to ever play the game..... He's just setting us up for a disappointment.
Maybe if one can grow to 7'0, become a tank, and learn to play defense. Actually they're both have to play defense, and they'd both have to be C's because truly Duncan is as much a C as he is a PF. I don't think we're also planning on moving Bosh to C, and Charlie is definately not a C. He should compare them to some PF-SF combo because that's the only way we'll have them playing together in the starting lineup and actually being able to win and play well.
I can sort of see his comparison, but You guys have all the details worked out for him. I guess the upside is, he has enough chemistry with Bosh, that they will work well together.
I think he may have jumped the gun with this one .. slightly .. lol If they can both learn to pass well out of double teams down low then i don't see why they can't be a good combo... i wouldn't go as far as the td and dr comparison though.
Um, I don't think so. Unless KG and Shaq ever play on the same team...I don't think there ever will be something like the Admiral and Tim.
remember this is the same dude coming off a two point performance and berated by his college coach for poor work ethic. dude just try and get yourself a second pro contract then u can worry about the hall of fame.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting deception:</div><div class="quote_post">remember this is the same dude coming off a two point performance and berated by his college coach for poor work ethic. </div> this could be going on almost as much of a limb as CV did by saying they are the next duncan and robinson, but I would give the guy a chance before bashing his work ethic too much. The problem w/ CV in college is that he never wanted to be there, if you followed him out of hs you would see that he wanted to go straight to the pro's, but didn't have the senior year he needed. He transfered to UConn because the thought it would give him a better chance to make the jump after one year but once again had a disappointing year and even after this past season which wasn't the greatest he wanted to jump. I think the fact that charlie didn't want to be in college was the reason for some of his underperformance and lack of effort and I think/hope that being in the pro's, where he wants to be, will lead to a better attitude than anyone saw at Uconn.
Holy bold statement, Batman! These guys have to do a lot more little things, like improve on the defensive end, and also win, before they should be mentioning themselves in the same breath at the Admiral and Timmah. It's good to see that CV is confident, but he's got quite a ways to go towards being on par with those two.

i think everyone's completely missed the point here...it wasnt a direct player comparison, but i think more along the lines of two skilled big men like they had in san an...a NEW twin towers of sorts. either way, its so easy to pick apart what he said, rather then appreciate his optimism and enthusiasm. him and bosh are going to be a great duo, there is no question in my mind at least
The whole quote went something like this: "I'm a quiet guy, he's a quiet guy. I'm 21, he's 21. I have a championship ring, he doesn't.(laughter in the room) We are like the next Robinson and Duncan......" So this is yet another case of the media singling out one line with the intent that we, as readers, would take it out of context. And once again, it worked. It seems more like Charlie meant to use the comparison in terms of chemistry rather than level of skill and talent. Also, judging from his championship ring crack, it seems like he said it in a fun manner, something not to be taken <u>completely</u> seriously, or literally. Silly me for buying into media propaganda once again.....
Maann, the Toronto Sun is so good at that. Its like the only effort they put into their articles is in the headlines.
Yeah like Schaddy mentioned, it`s good to see that Charlie shows some confidence/determination, but go out and see what you can really prove first.
