i was watching the seattle/new orleans game, and chris paul plays exactly like baron. he has great vision, great d, and in my opinion is actually better and more consistent offensively. i wonder how good we'd be if we had paul instead of baron
I'd still want Baron Davis. I love his swagger and charisma. But good job to NO/OKC for finding a good replacement though. Baron is still healing, so he's at a disadvantage. Chris Paul will no doubtbe an all-star someday. Boy did Atlanta make a stupid mistake by passing up Chris Paul for Marvin Williams. They paid Joe Johnson ridiculous money (almost as ridiculous as Dunleavy's) to play as PG, which is why they drafted Marvin cause they thought JJ would be a good PG. Newsflash, he's a SG. Which they realized now. So now they lack a good PG, have a overpaid SG, and too much depth at the foward spot. So Marvin gets little playing time and hardly contributes. I don't see Marvin contributing at all this season. Atlanta passed a soon to be all star PG and have a #2 pick that can't do anything this season while lower draft picks are doing awesome.
Well considering the Hornets aren't winning right now, we'd probably be about the same or a bit worse. I believe Chris Paul is wise beyond his years and he was definitely nba ready. Baron doesn't mask the fact we still can't score inside and can't run plays off the ball. The team needs to improve in certain areas, make good stops, play halfcourt D, and then run our open court game in transition. As our guys get older they'll figure out they need to run an offense similar to football with the quarterback looking down field and hitting a spot on the field where he knows somebody will be at a precise moment. It's called play execution. If the QB is just throwing the ball downfield to the fastest guy available it's not really going to fool anyone unless other people get involved and are moving actively to lose their defender. Good play execution can make the slowest guys very effective because everyone is involved and the other team doesn't know who the ball is going to or which way somebody is going to cut. We rely on a lot of dribble penetration and outside shots because our big men can't score much or can't score inside and the team lacks organization/court awareness. All I can say is running open court ball to start the game is for rookies who don't know any better. That kind of style makes it so we can't play any defense every posession down. With this a huge problem when our shots aren't falling, the warriors have slowed things down so they can win games with defense. This will prepare for being a playoff team when the time comes. If we can execute a variety of plays we won't be looking like a stupid rookie team anymore. We'll be looking like a real team that can exploit a variety of defenses designed to stop us. This will be a huge breath of fresh air because originally we were just a group of guys that are talented and try to do too much one-on-one isolations and one pass or no pass posessions. We finally have some identity. We could be a team that can play halfcourt/open court and hopefully be a true inside/outside team that can play any tempo both offense and defense. We just need to upgrade our center/power forward positions and that's why we drafted the way we did recently. We also got a good point guard prospect in case Baron Davis is forced to retire or has more back, hamstring, and ankle problems.

It's still too early to tell how both their careers will wind up. Paul is so young and Baron Davis is only 25. Of course Baron looks more awesome because he is the established player and he's an ideal 6'3 body when healthy. Baron would be a great football player if he wasn't so damn awesome at basketball.
Yeah, Baron Davis is huge for a PG. No way another PG can stop him from posting up, he's like a tank. My friend was in L.A. last weekend and missed his original flight back (on sunday) so he had to take a flight back to Oakland instead of San Jose. While boarding he saw Baron Davis on the plane and sat right behind him lol (the day of the Clippers game). He said Baron was really big, bigger than he thought.
I'd be more apt to say Deron Williams is Baron-like. Paul is not at all big or strong,is Iverson quick.

im telling you, chris paul with the squad we have now would work wonders. i mean, the hornets are not nearly as talented as we are and they are still 6-6. the passes paul was making tonight were baron-like, and he ALWAYS looked to pass first, and then when seeing nobody open, he either created a shot for someone else, or took it in his own hands. he has a sweet mid range jumper too

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting rookie789:</div><div class="quote_post">chris paul is better than baron davis, better personality and better player</div> What??? Care to explain? Mike Dunleavy is the greatest player that ever lived. Sheesh... I can make statements that leave people puzzled as well.
Obviously a biased view considering no back up to his statement and the way he stated it. Just ignore it, these types of comments are just annoying.
Until Chris Paul can single handedly lead a team in the playoffs, there is no way he would be better than B. Diddy. I love Chris Paul, I still think he'll be the best player out of this draft class when all is said and done and will be the ROY. He has "it" and his confidence carries over to the rest of his team. I still think Baron Davis true value will show up during the post season. He's a beast in the playoffs and steps up his game to another level when the team needs him. You need players who can take over a game and completely dominate a series for you in the post season. Defenses play much tighter and have the time to design a game plan to really exploite your weaknesses. However, having B. Diddy out there makes it harder for teams to execute their gameplan because he can create with two defenders on him and has the ability to switch from passer to scorer in a heart beat. You just don't know if Chris Paul is capable of those performances at that level of basketball.
It's very hard to compare rookies and veterans. NBA is the game of adjustment after adjustment. For now, rookies can have excellent games in a row, because other teams don't know much about them. But, once other teams figure them out, they will adjust according to their strength and weakness. That's why many rookies experience sophomore wall. Some undrafted rookies will overcome walls after walls and become All-Stars and Superstars, while some will fade after excellent rookie season. I have no idea how Paul will end up, and so far he played like ROY and led Hornet into surprising 6-6. But, to compare Davis, who went through so many walls, just because Paul played excellent 12 games are way too premature. Let Paul play at least couple seasons then start the talk...
Chris Paul has had a nice start. I like to look at where a player came from. He came from a big time program, Wake, while an All-America, he did not have any huge moments in the tournament where he took over the game and was amazing. He had a great article on him in SI early last year which shows me he's got a great family foundation but he's far from great. Baron has already been a multiple All-Star and is young and has already established his name in the NBA, with coaches and refs. That's invaluable. Yeah he's missing his shots right now but the Warriors are winning, and a great deal of it is because of Baron's passing and his personality. No way I'd take Paul over Baron, plus, we would never have had the 3rd pick last year. (Marvin Williams will be a stud though, not a Darius Miles stud, more like a Shawn Marior like stud.)
