If a player is fouled when shooting and the shot misses, does the shot still go on the sheet as a missed shot?
Yea I think so. I always hated that crap, but I don't see a fair way in fixing it so deal w/ it and quit bein a stat whore, its all about performance. I was JK about the stat whore thing, mods don't come here and send me a red flag. I am joking. I even added the tongue smiley.
i dont think so either. it only counts if u make it. did u know tip-ins count for rebounds though, whether u make it or not.
As I recall, a shot is only counted as a field goal attempt if it hits the rim. That's also the reason people get credited with an assist when they miss completely and a team mate gets the ball and scores.
If a player shoots a shot and is fouled, and doesn't make the shot, it does not count as a field goal attempt. If they make it would definitely count as a shot.
It doesn't. This leads to the problem of determining exactly how many shot attempts a player has during the course of the game, becaue it's actually more than what's recorded as his field goal attempts. A good estimation is fga + 0.44*fta.

How is it possible to hate something that doesn't exist? A shot that the shooter is fouled on does not count as a missed shot. BTW if you "always hated that crap" then one could venture to think that you are indeed the "stat whore".

Wow, I did not know they counted for you, but not against you. I always thought that was what really made up for AI's low FG% games. He usually gets to the foul line during those games. NVM. Never looked into it, but this topic has crossed my mind before and I came to the conclusion that if they counted for you if you made it, then sensibly they would count against you if you missed. I don't reallly look into stats, and these are the kind of reasons why. I hate that people take them so seriously. They give you an idea of what the player does for his team on average, but when people run around and say this player sucks because he only averages __ stats per game and ___ rebounds per game its just silly. Stats are not really how you should rank a players skills. It's a loooong argument, but thats just my 2 cents.

PPG is a crude statistic that may or may not be very useful in evaluating a player. But there are better stats.
So if you tip a shot in you get a rebound and a made shot, but what if your tipping for a rebound and it hits the rim but doesn't go in, do you get a missed shot attempt?

If the statician doesn't feel like the tip was a shot attempt, it wouldn't be recorded as anything. If it does look like a shot attempt, than it would be a rebound and missed field goal.
