Now the Boston Celtics' executive director of basketball operations, Ainge always has favored athletes who compete with fire. That's why he has been so enamored with Allen Iverson.

Earlier this season, Ainge was quoted as saying that the Sixers star was the best player in the Eastern Conference, which covers some territory. That includes the likes of Cleveland's LeBron James and Miami's Shaquille O'Neal and Dwyane Wade.

Ainge expanded on those comments before last night's game against the Sixers at TD Banknorth Garden.

"I've always felt Allen is the best in the Eastern Conference the last few years," Ainge said. "His competitiveness and his energy are the best in the league."</div>

Ainge is far from a genius....or even a good GM.

I'm not really sure what kind of tactic this is. Complimenting the star players of other teams in your conference (and division). Maybe the Celts will win the Atlantic and then we'll all be calling Ainge brilliant.

What makes you say Ainge isn't a good GM? Just curious.

I'll give you the genius part, he's not that, but I've found nothing wrong with his methods so far. I think his preference for making sure the players he has brought get playing time is a little foolish, but nothing that most GM's don't partake in.

The whole Antoine Walker scenario for starters. I'll give him some credit though because the Celtics have drafted fairly intelligently as of late.
