<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Suns forward Brian Grant is scheduled to undergo surgery on his right knee this morning and expects to be out of action for up to three months. Suns team doctor Thomas Carter will perform the arthroscopy to clean out any calcification off Grant?s patella and into his tendon and also remove any loose bodies ? cartilage, bone or calcifications ? within the joint. Suns head athletic trainer Aaron Nelson said it was a ?maintainence issue? and that Grant would be out for eight to 12 weeks. Grant, 33, has been plagued by knee problems throughout his NBA career, to the point he is unsure whether this is his seventh or eighth surgery on his knees. Grant is positive that the timing of this morning's scope is right after playing with constant pain that only anti-inflammatory drugs could reduce over the past two months. ?The rotation has really come together,? Grant said. ?It's not that much of a strain as far as me being able to go and do this at this point in time with the way things have come together. I talked to Coach (Mike D'Antoni) and Bryan (Colangelo), and both agreed that if I do this now, I'll have a chance to be healthy toward the end of the season and the playoffs, when I'll really be needed.? </div> Source
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting PlaTsanity:</div><div class="quote_post">this really blows for the suns</div> It's not really as bad as advertised. Brian Grant is an excellent player but he has fallen out of the rotation lately, and plays behind Kurt Thomas and Pat Burke. Let's also not forget that Boris Diaw plays major minutes at the Center position. The Suns have been without some major players including Amare Stoudemire, Leandro Barbosa (15.3 ppg), and now Grant.
It could be a lot worse. After falling out of rotational favor, I think this could've been far more major blow were it Kurt or Boris, and they should weather the blow well. That being said, let's not also forget that we knew what we were getting into when we signed this git. He's an oldster and you get what you pay for. The man has had physical trouble time and again, and his minutes were always with a word of caution.
It's no big deal at all. He has played well, but we don't need him now. We mostly brought him for the playoffs, and with how great Kurt Thomas has been lately, and how good Boris Diaw and Burke have been, Grant chose to do this surgery at the right time to get him ready for the rest of the season. And don't call him a "git". We are getting all that we have asked from him. He has done very well. He gives us a lot of depth and the toughness that we lacked last year.
