i expected him to be team's scoring leader and get 16 points a game and yesturday he was 1-8 from downtown wow that's horrible
JR just turned 20 years old. He is in his 2nd year removed from HS. He is going to inconsistent. Can't get down on him after a bad shooting night, it's bound to happen.
I was watching that game (Sixers game), and boy did he get bailed out. If the Sixers won that game I would have blamed the loss on JR Smith. How many rushed and forced three's did he take down the stretch of that game? A couple... and he took two or three on one possession late in the game. It's understandable though, he's only 20 years old, like STC said, and it takes time.
Don't like it, but I believe it He would have been a Sophomore at UNC this year, so he's learning the game. It seems like in the last few games the Coach must have told to Paul to shoot more since he's the better shooter right now. But I am confident Smith will continue to learn and develop, especially with Chris Paul.
one thing i don't get with nba players that went straight from HS: i mean come on they getting FREE top education especially j.r..... a basketball scholarship to UNC??? man i would dream for that every time i go to sleep, they know they can enter the nba draft sooner or later so why not get your education first and at the same time have fun playin ball/developin your game?? i totally agree with michael jordan, when he argued about how players these days skip college and not get their education... man if i could play UNC basketball ... wow that's just my dream right there
Rookie 789 you are right in my book. If you are so great then you have an insurance policy in case you get hurt in college. If you pick the right high major then you will have both excellent coaching and excellent competition, and will also get alot of help in publicity for the draft and great advice from players and coaches about the draft, agents, contracts, teams to avoid, and so on. Just think if Smith had gone to UNC for 2 years and had learned to work on ballhandling, shooting and defense?
To me he seems like a guy that's bound to be an inconsistent scorer with a mediocre all-round game, and weak defense. It would be nice for him to prove me wrong, but I definately do not expect 16 PPG right now, and in the future I see him as a 20-4-4 guy with at best mediocre D.
really hate to see him struggling right now... tonights game against the kings 4-11 shooing... i remember that game when he dropped 6 3's and had 33 points, this season he didnt even have a 20 point game yet... man this sucks but on the other hand, the hornets are doing better than they were last year thats a good thing
He takes a lot of shots low percentage shots without balance. STCBBall3 is right, he's young and he's going to be inconsistent. He doesn't have a good understanding of the fundamentals, and is using his athletic ability to get most of his shots. Because he didn't got to college, he's going to have to work twice as hard in the off-season, fine tuning his jumpshot and learning how to be patient and play within the offensive sets.

JR is still young i dont think you can expect much more from a guy like him right know because like i said his young. In the future Him and Paul will be a great 1-2 I think they will be like Jrich and Baron in Goldenstate.
One thing he has impressed me with though is his FT shooting, he's shooting 85.5% this season which is very impressive, and it would be nice if he could keep it in the 80% range.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting FedEx227:</div><div class="quote_post"><font color=""DarkGreen"">$$$$$$ </font></div> j.r. is not makin that much money anyways his paycheck a year is like 700k or something if he went to college and develop his game better i'm sure he could be top 10 draft pick and make more than 1 million a year right now
J.R is still only a baby and it shows in his demeanour and play at times. He'll be fine in the long run, but right now he's going through a stage every high-schooler to NBA player goes through.
I think he saw what Vince Carter did and thought he was one year better. Vince needed a couple of years when he hit the NBA. But, I know I'm reading your mind, Smith is no Carter. I would hold onto Smith for at least 2 years, and if he and Paul are not the best tandem by then there should be some pretty good SGs in the draft in the next two years. Meanwhile, West has arrived with Paul and D. Mason is remarkable. But we need the beef up front, to ease into PJs spot and to back up the frontline. Let's make a minor trade, but keep our first round pick to grab a workhorse who can guard Duncan and Garnett. Well, make them work anyway.
i wouldnt worry much about jr smith. he will get better, and mark my words. remember when kobe first came into the league? how much shots he was missing? just look at a him now. with a couple of years under his belt, i feel that jr will turn into a very special player.
tdoug... i did thought j.r. was kinda like vince carter, they both the same height, and he was going to unc.... and j.r. can slam it down also has a nice jumpshot, but he went back to the beginning of his rookie year now, playing about 5 minutes a game off the bench, i think scott is trying to teach him a lesson in order to earn your time, you gotta work your butt off, i watched his season high game when he had 26, he runs the point sometimes bringing the ball down the court and after that he just take jump shots, he didnt drive many times and could not post up against a smaller player, hes got a lot to learn
any thoughts about how much longer will he be kept in the doghouse? One more month? rest of the year?
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting hohoyoyoyo:</div><div class="quote_post">any thoughts about how much longer will he be kept in the doghouse? One more month? rest of the year?</div> It all depends on J.R. He needs to show that he wants it. That means all out hustle in practice and in the playing time that he gets. Smith is very capable of being an allstar, he needs to put his mind to it though. I wouldn't be worried about him. He's still a young gun learning the game. Everyone out of HS not named LeBron James goes through it.
