Ok, it seems that everyone and his sister is hating on Rob Babcock these days. There are really 3 reasons why everyone thinks Babcock is the worst GM in the league. First he drafted Rafael Araujo. Second, he gave a huge contract to Rafer Alston. Third, he got raped on the Vince Carter trade. All of these things are true, but they aren't that bad when you really look into them. First, Hoffa. Yes he has been a huge stiff, yet I find myself rooting for him. He played great on the west coast trip, and he sometimes shows that he can contribute. Plus the only player drafted after him that has really amounted to anything is Andre Iguodala. Luke Jackson, Andris Biedrins, Robert Swift, Sebastian Telfair are the next 4 players drafted....not exactly lighting up the league. Second, Rafer. The contract was obviously for too much money and for too many years. Rafer proved to be too volitile and too much of a shoot first pg to play on this team. To Babcock's credit, he admitted his mistake after one season and shipped out Rafer for James, who is fitting in nicely. Third, Vince. You can't say much other then he flat out got stripped. But he wasen't dealing from a point of power. Vince was avg. around 15 points a game when he was traded, and was riding the pine at crunch time (sounds like Jalen this year). He cut his losses, but still an unexcusable trade. But nobody ever talks about the positives. Drafting Charlie, even when everyone said it was a mistake, is proving to be a very good thing. Graham is contributing, and I think Jose Calderon hasen't even scratched the surface as too how good he can be. Thats just this year, last year he added Bonner from european league, who turned out to be a fan favorite. I think Babcock's future will be decided by 2 upcoming, huge, raptor shaping events. If he can re-sign CB4, and what he does with the $$ once we clear some cap space, untill then, i think we should lay off.
