Just what's up with him that's my question.
He is a great player but just an awful person. One thing to throw the ball into the crowd but it to hit a girl. That is just awful and he should apologize. This guy has problems and he really needs to resolve them.
melo was mad how would he know if the ball was gonna hit someone or not? t-mac did the same thing in 03-04 with the magics he didnt throw the ball into the crowd he KICKED it reaaaallly high... and this is one the reasons why melo is wwaay worse than lebron, lebron's personality is so much better
Yes, I'm so sure he meant to hit the girl. It couldn't have been by accident. For one, I have had a chance to quickly meet him and ask for an autograph, and he was kind enough to do it. How could you say he is an awful person, when you havn't even met him?

Second of all how many times have I heard that he was rude to fans when asked for his autograph. I remember reading it in a justbball.com thread. You got an autograph from him, congrats, but that doesn't mean acts in a good way all the time to fans
Even if you disregard anything else you've heard about him, this incident shows that either he's uncontrollable or completely lacks judgement. I wouldn't have cared if it was a 30-year old man instead of a little girl, he's throwing the ball at people who payed good money to be entertained. That's just totally disrespectful.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting rookie789:</div><div class="quote_post">melo was mad how would he know if the ball was gonna hit someone or not? </div> Just putting this out there: if you throw a ball into a crowd of people chances are it will hit someone.

Who knows why he wouldn't have signed an autograph. Maybe he was tired, maybe in a rush, who knows, but I still don't see how you can call him an awful person when you havn't met the guy. And BTW, I like how the thread starter didn't quote the last paragraph when it says Anthony went back and talked to her before heading into the lockeroom. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting Chutney:</div><div class="quote_post">Even if you disregard anything else you've heard about him, this incident shows that either he's uncontrollable or completely lacks judgement. Is Antonio McDyess uncontrollable because he kicked a ball into the crowd last year? According to you, I guess so.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">He was frustrated, in the heat of the moment, it happens</div> These guys are professionals and that kind of behavior is unacceptable. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">And BTW, I like how the thread starter didn't quote the last paragraph when it says Anthony went back and talked to her before heading into the lockeroom.</div> Its good that he came and talked to the girl but he stilled shouldn't of thrown the ball in the first place.

I would have made a similar judgement on McDyess, but his conduct outside of that incident suggest otherwise. Melo doesn't have that luxury. He's already dug himself in a hole, and by continuing to act immature, he's only making it a bigger problem. Every player in the league gets caught up in the heat of the moment during a game. But the fact that not all of them are throwing the ball at the crowd, shows that Melo is either uncontrollable or stupid. Talking to the girl means nothing at all IMO. He still did something that could have turned out much worse.
im kind of surprised by carmelo's behavior. i always thought he was a nice person. all the pictures ive seen of him are him smiling and he looks like a decent person. he seems like a guy who just likes to chill and keep it "melo". i read an article some where and he said quote: i guess im just a melo person. i smile a lot. you know, im melo. but of course there's the famous saying, dont judge a book by its cover.
A lot of people have thrown basketballs into the crowd, you guys act like he spotted the girl and pegged her. I do know Melo apologized and autographed her hat, she also got an Earl Boykins jersey. I know of many, many, people who have met Carmelo in public and he was cool and did not ignore them when they asked for autographs. Melo is not the first player to throw a ball or kick a ball into the crowd, lots of players have done it and its out of the heat of the moment. Not the best example, but in my basketball class I get mad and I've even thrown a few basketballs....lol

he hit the ball at her by accident he was just furious and nywho after the game he apologized to the girl gave her an autograph and gave her a boykins jersey (her faviourate player)
Carmelo is known for being a punk towards fans. He's notoriously known for ignoring autograph requests. He has a thug attitude, and it's going to get him no where as a person, maybe as a ball player. It's was a mistake, yes. But it's pathetic. You can't defend his actions, it's senseless. He needs to mature as a person, he's kicked the legal troubles, now he has to kick his attitude problems.

I would make similar judgements on all other players, but then you can add in their behaviour before that too. The point that I was trying to make (despite not articulating it that well) is that you can't expect people not to think he's a bad person. With all of his stupid mistakes he should be trying to control himself, instead of just making it easier for people to label him. I mean not everyone has the had the oppurtunity to meet him. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting Bobcat:</div><div class="quote_post">So apologizing means nothing at all? The person could have broken there nose or something. It could have turned into a fight. They could have sued. The point is that when you get involved with the crowd in a negative way, the situation can always turn out bad. Especially in basketball, when there really isn't a barrier seperating them.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Carmelo Anthony knew he had done something wrong before the ball he threw in frustration Saturday accidentally hit a girl sitting in the first row of the baseline during Denver's victory over Miami. Tuesday the Nuggets forward learned the consequences - a $5,000 fine from the NBA. "I wasn't surprised," he said. "I was waiting for the fine, waiting for the consequences of things. I'll take the fine. It was my fault." Anthony, who said he was surprised he was not tossed from the game for throwing the ball, spoke to the girl briefly at halftime. "I told her I was sorry, I was frustrated," he said. "She responded back and said, 'We all get frustrated at times."' </div> Anthony accepts fault, $5,000 fine
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"I told her I was sorry, I was frustrated," he said. "She responded back and said, 'We all get frustrated at times."'</div> Wow this girl handled the situation very maturely. As far as the whole situation goes, Melo made a mistake. Even if he hadn't hit the girl, throwing the ball was a stupid move. He said he was suprised he wasn't thrown out of the game which shows how dumb he is. If he knew he might get ejected, why would you hurt your team like that? I have lost a lot of respect for Anthony since his days in Syracuse and the way he has handled himself so far in his short career has given him a bad reputation.
