I love that Duke doesn't get a free pass #1 ranking here. I guess I was right to be skeptical about BC and Oregon last poll. [IMG] I think Bucknell should have more votes, and I watched them lose to Villanova. Nice to see my boys Ohio State in there, but what is with them having only played three games? Is that like the least games so far in all of NCAA hoops?

I definitley agree with Duke not as number one, but why is texas number 4? And Villinova Number 2. I also think Connecticut is very overrated, because Boone cant play D on players That know what theyre doing.

I was just saying that Duke got 0(zero) 1st place votes, that should be better phrased.

It's been updated to include the Duke win over Texas. It was an impressive win, but the win was more of an indication on how overrated Texas is, and not how strong Duke is.

Oklahoma is #4, do you think they should be so high?
Florida is #15, do you think they should be so low?

No votes for midmajors like Houston or Bucknell? I like Xavier and some of the MVC teams too.

I agree that Oklahoma is too high, but not by a lot. Afterall, their only loss on the year was to Villanova, our #2 team in the nation, and the Sooners were in control of that one until the later stages of the game. I think I had them at #6 in mine. I just didn't feel like ranking teams over them who are untalented but have padded undefeated records.

Florida is deinitely not too low. In fact, I think we're the only poll in America who has them right. They've got two above average wins with Syracuse and Wake Forest, but most of us don't feel like those wins were that great of quality. Personally, I feel like Syracuse is close to the most overrated team in the NCAA, and Wake Forest is decent, but nowhere near that generous #16 ranking ESPN gives them. The ESPN poll just ranks the Gators #6 because the voters jumped the gun when they won the Coaches vs. Cancer tournament and shot them from barely receiving votes to #14 or so, and because their schedule has been nothing but cupcakes since, they've just kind of fallen into that #6 ranking, very undeservingly. When you compare them to George Washington, Illinois, or Michigan, they're younger, less talented, and really don't have much more to show for their season as both teams.

I don't think that Bucknell and Houston deserve rankings. However, I personally put Indiana State and Iona in my rankings and placed George Washington higher than most people probably would have, so I definitely showed love to mid-majors.

I will disagree of course. We still beat 2 ranked teams are are 4-0 against the Big East and ACC. I think 6th is too high, but I would put us around 10-12. Our team is so fun to watch because they love playing ball together. They have such great chemistry. No one wants to be the superstar, they are happier getting others involved then them scoring themselves. We are playing Billy ball again! We just do the little things that give us wins. Al Horford and Joakim Noah get a defensive board and immediately start the break and 8 times out of 10 they make the right decision and stay under control. Taureen Green is better than Roberson. He shoots better, plays defense and passes to others. We are screwed though if Brewer or Green goes down. Our depth is our biggest concern and we don't have anyone to be consistent in backing up the PG. I see Hodge developing into a good backup, but not yet.

Our schedule is a joke though. If we can beat Miami and Georgia on the road, we could easily go 17-0 and with everyone in front of us losing, we could be ranked #1 at some point this season. I'm just hoping that this success isn't going to our heads and we lose a game that we should win.

You beat two ESPN ranked teams, but not two teams that I'd consider ranked. I mean, after I just made a post denouncing ESPN's rankings you point out to me that you beat two teams ranked by ESPN? C'mon.

As for beating two Big East and two ACC teams, congratulations on beating Providence and Florida State, two giants of their conferences. Seriously, beating a team from a big conference doesn't mean anything. I'd take George Washington, Gonzaga, Memphis, and even Nevada over most big conference teams, and I wouldn't take Providence over most mid-majors.

Team chemistry and unselfishness can do great things for your team, but there are tons other teams in the NCAA with great team chemistry too; George Washington for example.

Agreed. You could be #1 because of the way ESPN hypes up big name schools who don't play anyone. How sickening is that?

No, they could be #1 because all the teams are bad this year! Seriously, remember last year? Do you think Duke's team this year would be sniffing #1?

So far, the only team that has REALLY shown anything is UConn. Villanova, I'm sure they're good too although they rely on jump shooting too much, and then you've got some teams like Michigan State, Gonzaga, Washington, Duke, Illinois, Florida who have faced some challenges and won. That's about it, and it's really kind of funny that a team with two losses and no good wins like BC is still in the top 15, but I just don't see that many other teams that have shown much this year.

Maybe it will take time for more names to emerge, but Chris Paul is gone. Felton, May, etc. are gone. Deron is gone. Warrick is gone. Etc., etc.

i think you guys vote just so that you can disagree with espn and then rag on them. ohio state at 20 w/ what 4 or 5 wins over noone. You say texas is overrated but you still have them at 6, i think blowing out athe #6 team in the country deserves some credit.

Last week we had UConn and Nova as the top 2 teams. Neither lost last week so what would justify dropping them and moving Duke up?

Virginia Tech and St. Joe's are two solid teams this season. It's not so much Ohio St. beat a big team moving them up to #20, it's the fact a lot other teams from last week lost, so they fell down our rankings.

Why would we take our time to make our own poll just to rag on ESPN/AP Poll? We spend a lot of time watching the games and analyzing the results. If we just wanted to rag on other polls we could simply start a thread titled "Why ESPN Polls are Garbage."

It's not even ESPN's poll, it's voted on by the college coaches.

The OSU ranking is a funny one to pick on, since the ESPN poll does have them #25, and since this poll isn't that different. They beat VT well and have that away win against St. Joe's, and they're 6-0 right now. Of course, I can see them losing the tough game at Iowa State on Saturday, but there's nothing strange about putting them over three loss Iowa and Kentucky and so on.

As for Duke, we've talked about it before, even in this thread. There's nothing that weird about putting them #3. It's not saying they're bad, it's saying those other teams might be better. As I wrote about before, Duke is a lucky halfcourt heave away from having a loss at home.

Week 5 has been updated. Seems like the #18 rank is a curse for teams. Two weeks in a row, the team ranked #18 dropped from the rankings the following week. Last week it was Kentucky, this week it was Wake Forest, unlucky #18 this week is Maryland.

I wonder when 8-1 Bucknell might gets some votes or 7-0 Indiana St. get some respect after beating Indiana.
