<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Looks like Mike Krzyzewski will have plenty of options for the Team USA roster. With some players already committing to the cause for the Beijing Olympics ? All-Stars Kobe Bryant and Paul Pierce, to name two ? Lamar Odom wanted to throw his hat into the five rings before it got too late. The U.S. took a bronze medal in the 2004 Olympics after losing to Argentina in the semifinals, but Odom was one of three U.S. players to score in double figures in all three medal-round games. Odom has tried to contact Jerry Colangelo, Team USA's managing director. "I'm doing my best to call Mr. Colangelo, let him know I want to play again," Odom said. "They're going to pick who they want to pick." Indiana Pacer All-Star forward Jermaine O'Neal said he would commit to Team USA as long as he did not have to play in the 2006 World Championship and perhaps a zone qualifying tournament in two years. Odom said he would do whatever it takes. "To get to play USA basketball, that was special for me," he said.</div> Source
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Brok3n:</div><div class="quote_post">Awesome, I'd like to see more NBA players in our USA team, brings back memories of hte Dream Team</div> Heck no. Even if they brought in all the best guys in the NBA right now for a team, it wouldn't compare to the '92 team.
NBA players now a days don't have a team-first mentality. This is the same thing that happend to our last Olympic team. A lineup with a big ego and mediocre talent and a coach with a huge ego. No team will be like the dream team, none.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Bahir:</div><div class="quote_post">Heck no. Even if they brought in all the best guys in the NBA right now for a team, it wouldn't compare to the '92 team.</div> haha, i aggree
Here's the Modern day Dream team Starters: PG- Steve Nash SG- Dwayne Wade SF- LeBron James PF- Kevin Garnett C- Marcus Camby Bench PG- Jason Kidd SG- Kobe Bryant SF- Shawn Marion PF- Tim Duncan C- Shaq Ok- so I know you all probably want to hit me right now- how is Allen Iverson not on there? How are Kobe, Duncan, and Shaq ALL on the bench? Here's why: Dream team 92- HUGE talent, TEAM play. While Kobe and Shaq (I'd say Duncan too but I sincerely beleive Garnett is better) may be more talented then their starting counterparts, we have seen time and again that they have not proven to be team players. Yes Shaq has done wonders in Miami- but he has long been known for complaining about shots and taking swipes at teammates. Dwane Wade is humble as it gets, and would put the team first (like he's doing this year in Miami) while Marcus Camby is creating whispers of MVP. Of course he won't get it but the fact that it's even being mentioned is something. A center on the Olympic team would merely need to grab rebounds and hit the open layup. He wouldn't have to be a dominant offensive force. Enter Marcus Camby. Back to the rest of the Starting lineup- Steve Nash is selfless and makes the players around him better- He has an MVP trophy and Amare stoudemire to back that up. He's also foreign so he know's how the foriegners play (just kidding....sort of). Kevin Garnett- Garnett should never have to be explained to anyone, but for those of you who are on Tim Duncans Jock- Garnett's better. Yeah- I know, Timmy has 3 rings and Garnett has 0, but Garnetts also only had a decent team around him for one year and that year he went 6 deep in the WCF. He has more versatility than Duncan, with more than one go-to move (ala the left 18 footer off glass). LeBron James- Walking Triple double that wouldn't whether or not he dropped 30 a night in the Olympics. USA would be happen to get 15 8 and 7 from him. And he could do it. Easily. Lastly- the benefit of having Kobe Bryant off the bench (I kno it'd never happen but this is hypothetical) is it doesn't matter who starts- it's who finishes. While Dwayne Wade is becoming a clutch player in his own right, it's still undisputed who you want taking the last shot in the game. Whether it's a mid range jumper, a killer three- or getting to the basket- Kobe's our man who could hit a big shot, on the worlds biggest stage. So yeah- That's the closest thing we have to a dream team right now- tho you guys are right, no team will ever be as good as that one was.
I think the team needs more fire power from the perimeter. PG - Cassell SG - Allen SF - Kobe PF - KG C - Duncan I'd go with this lineup.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting ilive4ball:</div><div class="quote_post">Here's the Modern day Dream team Starters: PG- Steve Nash SG- Dwayne Wade SF- LeBron James PF- Kevin Garnett C- Marcus Camby Bench PG- Jason Kidd SG- Kobe Bryant SF- Shawn Marion PF- Tim Duncan C- Shaq </div> First of all Kobe would start over Wade. And like Bahir said Nash is canadian..so I would probably put Wade at PG. And Marcus Camby wouldnt start over Shaq
I think they should go Dwayne Wade -PG Kobe Bryant -SG Kevin Garnett- SF Tim Duncan -PF Shaq- C That would be a powerful starting lineup.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">First of all Kobe would start over Wade</div> First of all I didn't say what would happen. Im saying what should happen. Kobe's my fav. player ever but since everyone keeps bringing up a team oriented Olympic Squad, Wade is more of a team player. And of course Camby wouldn't start of Shaq, tho I wouldn't mind it. I do like Chef's lineup tho of: Dwayne Wade -PG Kobe Bryant -SG Kevin Garnett- SF Tim Duncan -PF Shaq- C No one could stop that five
PG-A.I. SG-Kobe SF-KG PF-Tim Duncan C-Shaq NO ONE can stop Shaq without double team and double leads to man open.
