A couple more weeks are in the bag and the NBA Power Rankings are back for JBB. So they may be here a week later than I'd intended, but they're here never-the-less. I'm sure you're all wondering on how Kobe's 62 point outburst or the Lakers recent winning ways have placed them, or maybe what happened to the Spurs after their recent two game skid, or where the Heat are now that Riley has them playing good ball and are 4-1 under him. Well, the only way to find out is to read on, as JBB brings you another edition of the JBB NBA Power Rankings.

Biggest Jump: Rockets: +15, Lakers: +12
Free Fallers: Clippers: -15, Warriors: -9

NOTE: Number in parentheses is the ranking from the previous rankings. Also numbers in <font color=""Blue"">blue denote NBAs rankings, while numbers in <font color=""Red"">red are those of ESPN.

(1)<font color=""red"">(1)<font color=""blue"">(1) 1. Detroit Pistons (20-3) - They just keep rolling. They?ve won 9 out their last 10 and are off to the best start in history of their franchise at 20-3. If anyone doubted this team once Coach Brown left, I?m sure they?re not now.

(2)<font color=""red"">(3)<font color=""blue"">(3)2. San Antonio Spurs (20-6) ? So what if they lost two in a row. They?ve still got the best record in the West and second best in the league. Plus, cut ?em some slack. They?ve been playing without Manu and winning, going 4-2 in the games without him, including wins over the Clippers and the TWolves.

(4)<font color=""Red"">(2)<font color=""blue"">(2) 3. Dallas Mavericks (19-7) ? Bounced back nicely after Kobe put on his show, with a 105-95 win over a semi-resilient Kings team. Oh, and they?re going 9-3 this month and Dirk has continued to put up MVP numbers, not too shabby if you ask me. And to show the effects of Avery Johnson as a coach, they?ve given up 100 points only three times this month. Amazing to see what happens when you actually put forth effort on that end.

(8)<font color=""red"">(8)<font color=""blue"">(8) 4. Indiana Pacers (15-8) - The recent emergence of Danny Granger has helped the Pacers forget the whole Ron Artest debacle. He?s averaging 14 points and 6.5 rebounds over the last two, and 8 points and 5 boards over the last seven. If he keeps emerging as a force, the Pacers could soon forget Artest. Oh, and by the way, they?re playing well without Artest as well, going 5-1 without him. See, maybe he?s not as important as he thinks he is.

(9)<font color=""red"">(11)<font color=""blue"">(9) 5. Cleveland Cavaliers (15-9) ? Slammed the breaks on their recent three game skid and responded by winning four straight. And here?s your Cavalier stat of the month. 29.94%. That?s the percentage of points this month scored by LeBron James for the Cavs. I think a certain FA acquisition, namely Mr. Hughes, needs to step up his play and help LeBron shoulder the load. Cause last I knew, he wasn?t given that big ?ol contract to come over and average a mere 16 points on 39% shooting, or for that matter, average a mere 13.7 points throughout this month. Other than that, no complaints.

(12)<font color=""red"">(5)<font color=""blue"">(4) 6. Miami Heat (15-11) ? Shaq has returned and his presence has paid dividends immediately. Aside from that, Pat Riley has returned to the sidelines and he has led them to a 4-1 record. They look to carry that momentum into this weekend when the red hot Lakers roll into town. And despite what you may say, all eyes won?t be on #34 for the Heat, they?ll be on #3, seeing if he can keep up with Kobe offensively, and contain him at the same time.

    (6)<font color=""red"">(9)<font color=""blue"">(10) 7. Phoenix Suns (15-9) ?
Looks like they might have finally gotten over their recent slump, as they?ve now won 2 out of 3. What?s more impressive than that though, is the fact that they?ve managed to take the lead in the Pacific Division. Only one word can describe that, and that word is this: Impressive. I never thought they?d be where they are, but boy have they proven me wrong

(3)<font color=""red"">(6)<font color=""blue"">(6) 8. Memphis Grizzlies (15-8) ? I excuse them for their recent losing streak and keep them in the top 10, because that was a hellacious trip. 5 straight games against top 10 teams is a quick way to lose. Lucky for them , they managed to muster one win out of that, and that against the Suns and than took the Pistons to the limit the next night. Lucky for them, the upcoming games look a little easier and hopefully they can take the momentum from that whipping the Blazers and keep winning games.

(21)<font color=""red"">(13)<font color=""blue"">(11) 9. Los Angeles Lakers (14-11) - Number of the week is 62. That?s the amount Kobe dropped on the Mavs in just 33 minutes of play. Oh, did I mention they?re 9-3 this month, with a pair of wins against Dallas to go along with wins against Memphis, Chicago, and Milwaukee? Looks like this team is finally coming around and learning the offense and we?ll see if they?re for real come Sunday when they roll into Miami. Now if only Odom could figure it out and they could beat those pesky TWolves (2 of 3 losses this month have come to them), they?d be much better off.

(11)<font color=""red"">(7)<font color=""blue"">(7) 10. Milwaukee Bucks (14-9) ? Andrew Bogut may not be the MVP of that team, but he sure as hell is their hero. Pulls out even more late game heroics by making that tip shot with .7 seconds left on the clock. If he hasn?t been clutch for them, I don?t know who has. Oh yea, they?ve won 5 of 7 and look like they?re here to stay in the East.

(20)<font color=""red"">(17)<font color=""blue"">(18) 11. Philadelphia 76ers (14-12) ? The Sixers have recently caught fire and have won 6 of 7 because of it. The win streak can be credited to Iverson?s phenomenal play. He?s topped 35 five times in the last 7 games and, as he has all season, been the key to winning for the Sixers. It hasn?t been all Iverson either, as CWebb has averaged 23.6 over the last five. If they can get that production out of him and have Iverson keep up his hot play, the Sixers could be a very tough team to beat.

(16)<font color=""red"">(22)<font color=""blue"">(17) 12. New Jersey Nets (13-12) ? Are the Nets back? It sure looks that way. Winners of four in a row have found themselves a half game out of the Atlantic division and back in the playoff hunt.

(28)<font color=""red"">(16)<font color=""blue"">(15) 13. Houston Rockets (10-14) ? Just as things looked as if they were going great down in Houston, Yao goes down and won?t be back for at least a few weeks. TMac and company, who have won 7 of 10, will need to pull things together and not play the way they did against Toronto the other night while Yao is out. Lucky for them, they?re schedule to close the year isn?t overly difficult, going on the road against Denver and New Orleans, while Golden State and Sacramento come for a visit. They need to at least split those games, otherwise they?ll have a huge amount of ground to make up in the West come the new year in order to make the playoffs.

(24)<font color=""red"">(25)<font color=""blue"">(24) 14. Boston Celtics (11-14) ? They finally manage to pull off consecutive victories this season, and it only took them 25 games. Luckily for them, the schedule isn?t too difficult to end the year, with games against Seattle, Golden State, the Clippers, and Sacramento, all teams that are struggling to win games right now.

(17)<font color=""red"">(15)<font color=""blue"">(14) 15. New Orleans Hornets (11-14) ? Winners of 2 out of 3 including a shocker over the Spurs. Byron Scott has his young team playing better than expected, and has Chris Paul looking like the clear cut Rookie of the Year. If these guys keep improving, they may have an outside shot at the playoffs, as the West has weaker than expected this year.

(7)<font color=""red"">(10)<font color=""blue"">(12) 16. Golden State Warriors (14-11) ? After the Eastern Conference treated them so kindly at the beginning of the year, boy have they beat on them as of late. The Warriors have lost 4 of 5, including three straight to the East. The only win in the last five has been the lowly Raptors. This streak shows two things. #1: The fact that the Warriors can?t even beat a sub-par opponent, and #2: The Raptors are that bad, and the Golden State Warriors aren?t that good right now either.

(10)<font color=""red"">(12)<font color=""Blue"">(13) 17. Minnesota Timberwolves (13-10) ? The only positive thing to report right now is that they?re still on top of their division. Must be nice to play in a division where the second best team is 12-14. Now the negatives: They lost four in a row before trouncing a New Orleans team that couldn?t make a shot, and three of those losses were by a combined 6 points. Ouch.

(23)<font color=""red"">(19)<font color=""blue"">(20) 18. Utah Jazz (11-14) ? After winning 3 of 4 and showing some promise, they not only lose 3 of 4, but Kirilenko once again gets hurt, and two of their three losses haven?t even been close. These guys need to find some consistency to their game; otherwise it could be a long season and another losing one for Jerry Sloan?s club.

(13)<font color=""red"">(14)<font color=""blue"">(16) 19. Chicago Bulls (12-13) ? Things are not going too well right now out in Chicago. They?ve lost 4 of 6 and are 5-7 on the month. They gave up a decent third quarter lead last night against Cleveland and lost that game. And that defense that made them so good last year isn?t so good this year. They?ve given up 100 points seven times this month. I wouldn?t be surprised if Scott Skiles makes some changes if the struggles continue, cause right now, this team might be in need of a shake up.

(5)<font color=""red"">(4)<font color=""blue"">(5) 20. Los Angeles Clippers (15-10) ? Just when it seemed as if things couldn?t get much better, things go straight south. The Clippers were sitting atop the Pacific Division all season long, they just get back Livingston, and what happens? They drop 5 out of 6 and look like they might be completely falling apart at the seams. They need to pick things up before they turn into the Clippers of old once again.

(18)<font color=""red"">(20)<font color=""blue"">(22) 21. Orlando Magic (9-14) ? The positive news is that Grant Hill has finally comeback from that injury that kept him out for the first month and a half of the season. The bad news however, is everything else. The offense continues to be pathetic, scoring 100 points only twice this month and three times all season, and the defense hasn?t been able to win them games anymore. They need to find some type of offense, otherwise their season will be over before All Star break.

(19)<font color=""red"">(26)<font color=""blue"">(26) 22. Washington Wizards (10-14) ? To say the least, things haven?t gone too well for the Wizards over the last couple weeks. They?ve lost 6 or their last 8 and currently four games beneath .500. However, the most painful thing about those 6 losses, only two were by 10 or more, they squandered a first half lead in two of them, and lost in Chicago after gaining the momentum in the 3rd and having Arenas drop 42. And why are they losing, well, when you give up 102.75 points per game over any given stretch, you?re not going to win a lot.

(15)<font color=""red"">(18)<font color=""blue"">(19) 23. Denver Nuggets (12-14) ? Carmelo is playing his best basketball of the season right now, averaging 30.57 points over his last 7 games. Too bad the Nuggets aren?t putting it to use, winning only 2 of those contests, and they?re currently mired in a 4 games slump. George needs to find a way to light a fire under these guys, before they fall too far out of the race.

(14)<font color=""red"">(24)<font color=""blue"">(21) 24. Seattle Supersonics (11-13) ? Are they finally turning the corner? Maybe. They won a couple in a row, including some payback on Washington, prior to getting thumped by Phoenix the other night. If this team wants to go anywhere though, they need to play some defense. They?re giving up a league high 104.83, while allowing opponents to shoot over 49% from the floor. If that doesn?t need some improvement, I don?t know what does.

(25)<font color=""red"">(28)<font color=""blue"">(27) 25. Charlotte Bobcats (8-18) ? The Bobcats finally managed to pull out another victory, beating New Jersey last week, than beating Sacramento and proceeding to pull out a shorthanded victory over Chicago. However, that?s the only bright spot for them. Okafor is out with a sprained ankle, they?re top pick and future point guard continues to shoot poorly, and the Bobcats in general, have just not played well. They?d lost 8 straight before beating New Jersey and haven?t played with that competitiveness they did last year. They need to start finding ways to win again, otherwise they might end up worse than they did last year.

(30)<font color=""red"">(23)<font color=""blue"">(25) 26. Atlanta Hawks (6-20) ? I never thought I?d see the day where I?d rank the Hawks above the Kings, but here it is. But that?s what happens when you win 4 of 6 and beat the defending world champs along with Cleveland in the process. And it helps that the Kings are sucking beyond any belief, but that?s an entirely different story.

(22)<font color=""red"">(21)<font color=""blue"">(23) 27. Sacramento Kings (10-16) ? And things just keep getting worse and worse for the Kings. Not only did they lose Bonzi and Peja for at least a week each, but they also keep losing games and currently sit in last place in the Pacific Division.

(29)<font color=""red"">(30)<font color=""blue"">(29) 28. Toronto Raptors (6-20) ? These Raptors are just flat out bad. Period. Sure, they?ve won a couple in a row, but note the opposition. A Yao-less Rockets team and the Magic, who aren?t anything spectacular themselves. Beyond that, they lost 4 of 5 prior to this win streak. Oh, and did I mention they?re still tied for the worst record in the league? Yea, they?re pretty bad.

(26)<font color=""red"">(27)<font color=""blue"">(28) 29. Portland Trailblazers (7-18) ? The losses just keep piling up for this young Trailblazers team. They?ve lost two in a row, five out of six, and have managed only two wins this entire month. This team, continues to go nowhere pretty fast, and that won?t be changing anytime this week, as Philly and Memphis are coming up at home, and having to go on the road to Minnesota and Sacramento. You might as well pencil these guys in for their third straight lottery pick, cause that?s the only place their destined for this year.

(27)<font color=""red"">(29)<font color=""Blue"">(30) 30. New York Knicks (6-18) - Isn?t seven supposed to be a lucky number? Last I knew though, 7 straight losses, wasn?t all that lucky, in fact, that?s flat out horrible. This team isn?t just bad right now, they?re really bad, and they need to figure out what?s wrong really soon, before they erase the thought of the playoffs before midseason even rolls around.

    (29) 28. Toronto Raptors (6-20) – These Raptors are just flat out bad. Period. Sure, they’ve won a couple in a row, but note the opposition. A Yao-less Rockets team and the Magic, who aren’t anything spectacular themselves. Beyond that, they lost 4 of 5 prior to this win streak. Oh, and did I mention they’re still tied for the worst record in the league? Yea, they’re pretty bad.

    (26) 29. Portland Trailblazers (7-18) – The losses just keep piling up for this young Trailblazers team. They’ve lost two in a row, five out of six, and have managed only two wins this entire month. This team, continues to go nowhere pretty fast, and that won’t be changing anytime this week, as Philly and Memphis are coming up at home, and having to go on the road to Minnesota and Sacramento. You might as well pencil these guys in for their third straight lottery pick, cause that’s the only place their destined for this year.

    (27) 30. New York Knicks (6-18) - Isn’t seven supposed to be a lucky number? Last I knew though, 7 straight losses, wasn’t all that lucky, in fact, that’s flat out horrible. This team isn’t just bad right now, they’re really bad, and they need to figure out what’s wrong really soon, before they erase the thought of the playoffs before midseason even rolls around.

Nice break down overall nothing you I really see wrong with it. These rankings are a lot more accurate than those you see from espn, and company. The Bulls need to find some sort of spark, and consistency to there season. They have managed to get wins over squads like the Spurs, but collapsed against teams like the Knicks, Bobcats, and Cavaliers (after having a sizeable lead).

Great suggestion, we'll make sure to have those added to this one or the next ranking by Mookie.

Great rankings Mookie. I think Boston and Utah are a tad too high. Other than that, almost perfect.

I think that'd be a cool addition to it. And one last thing, I hope you don't mind that I deleted your second post and put it as the first one, that way people only see one version of the rankings and it's less confusing.

Boston and Utah have actually been playing some pretty solid ball as of late. Boston finally mustered a winning streak and Utah has won 3 of 4. Too bad Utah suffers from schizophrenia, because they can go out and win 3 of 4 just as easily as they can lose 3 of 4. So that's a little bit of reasoning behind my rankings.

Yeah comparing your's to their's would be great, maybe <font color=""Red"">red for ESPN and <font color=""Blue"">blue for the NBA. No problem deleting mine, keep up the great work.

And on that note, I think I'm going to edit this real quick to include ESPN's and NBA's rankings.

Great job, shapecity. I see these Power Rankings as both very fair and accurate. Good call on the Clippers and Warriors falling back, but do you really think the Rockets should be sitting at #13? I don't like to question peoples' judgement too often, but with Yao's injury and all, don't expect them to be that high for too long.

Actually I cannot take credit for these, all the credit goes to Mookie. [IMG]

I'll have the new ones out early next week probably. Be patient with me, I'm trying to enjoy my break while it lasts, and JBB hasn't exactly been high on my list as of late of things to worry about.
