Tonight vs. The Clippers Shawn Marion failed to block a shot. I mention this not because it is bad to play a game without blocking a shot, but because it is the first game this season where he failed to get at least one block AND one steal. While this does not tell the whole story of just how good Marion is, it is a pretty amazing feat. 18 games in all, there is no other player in the league that can claim it, I just wish it could have lasted for a few more.

btw, Shawn Marion is the best player in the league . . . still.

Well you are going on and on about Marion having one bad game and they lost but You have to remeber that he blocks shots all the time that is his game.

I think there have been a bit of misinterpretation here. I think odde's just saying that it's incredible that Marion was able to keep that streak up for so long, and that in itself deserves recognition. All I saw there was somebody who was appreciating and complimenting Marion's defensive play. And at the same time, rooting for him to continue his fine work. I saw no trace of vitriol, and certainly nothing derogatory or spiteful.

And yes, Marion is definitely one of the top talents in the game odde, and the best part is, he's fun to watch too.

Darn tootin', anybody can be pissed off about losing, but it takes a special kind of moron to make them feel even worse.

I only have a slight problem with it. Pound-for-pound, I think he has the most diverse skill set in the league, and he uses it in the most advantageous way possible, but the BEST, probably not.

I think he has absolutely no rival if you need someone who can do everything. Which could of course be the center of any argument about "best." There are players who score more points, grab more boards, dish more, and play better defense, but no one does all of them better than he does, and that's as good a reason as any to call him the "best."

Yeah that guy they call "the Big Fundamental" he can't pass or score or defend or rebound a lick. And he's not 4 inches taller and 50 pounds bigger and doesn't have multiple rings or 2 MVPs or 3 Finals MVPs.

Shawn Marion? Are you kidding me? He can't create his own shot. He's a mediocre man to man defender, though he tips a lot of passes making him a decent team defender. 2 assists/game is not a player that passes well. He rebounds. He's mostly a one trick pony.

Wow, that silly statement doesn't even deserve a rebuttle. My opinion is that pound for pound Marion is the best player in the league, and your opinion is that he isn't, but to call him a "one trick pony" is not only ignorant, it's insulting to anybody that knows anything about basketball.

Marion is a great all around player, but his shot needs work. It may be consistient, but when someone's in his face, it's no good. I would say Marion is one of the more deceptive players in the NBA.

Do you actually watch the games or are you too busy reading SLAM? To say he's a mediocre man-to-man defender is like calling George W. a mediocre tyrant. I may not agree with odde, because we all know Nash is the best player, but none-the-less the argument about his roundness is a very good one, although the same argument could be made for KG and a healthy AK-47.
