<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Coach Phil Jackson, who reportedly irritated a member of the Toronto Raptor front office by heaping praise on Raptor forward Chris Bosh last week, was slightly more guarded when asked about Indiana Pacer forward Ron Artest's trade demand. "I don't want to broach the ire of the league by saying that we would want this player because that's not how you go about this business, to publicly say that," Jackson said. "Indiana has wanted to stay with Ron and I think they still want to stay with Ron. I don't see how you're going to get [trade] value out of this player who, in my estimation, is one of the most valuable players in the league. Of course, I estimate him perhaps higher than other people, but I think he's a terrific player and he adds a big dimension to every game he plays in."</div> Interesting comments from PJax. He sounds intrigued by the idea at the very least of coaching Artest.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting shapecity:</div><div class="quote_post">If he leaves in 3 years (including this one), it's not all that terrible. Lamar Odom's contract expires a season after, but Odom will be making $14Million by then. In 3 years a lot of things can change for the Lakers, since PJax contract also ends in 3 years, Kobe will be 30 in 3 years, etc. In the next 3 seasons, I'd like to see the Lakers make a run at a title. You have Kobe Bryant leading the way, adding a two-way player like Artest is vital to compliment Kobe. Then in 2007 you add the final pieces to get this team back into the Finals. Artest might feel and say those things about going to NY now, but he could just as easily change his mind during those 3 seasons if the Lakers are winning and he's a major part of it. Saying he wants to go to NY doesn't mean the Knicks want him either. Will they have cap space to pay him? Will they have a roster spot for him in 3 years? IMO, Artest said those things to scare teams off from making offers for him, in hopes of being traded to the Knicks.</div> If LA picks him up, who's to say he will play with intensity? He might pull a Vince Carter until he gets his wish. Plus I think Kobe's arrogance + Ron's mental frustrations can = problems.

So at the very least you are saving money by swapping Artest + filler with Odom. Kobe and Artest have a mutual respect already so I don't see it being a problem, especially with PJax there to manage them. Also keep in mind Artest will want a big pay raise after his current deal is up. He lost an estimated $8M last year because of the suspension. His next deal will be his last opportunity to land a major deal, so I don't see him screwing that up. I think he needs a change because every time he puts on that Pacer jersey, he's linked to the brawl. He needs a fresh start and LA is the perfect situation for him ... hopefully.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting shapecity:</div><div class="quote_post">ESPN just reported the front runners in the Ron Artest sweepstakes are the Nuggets & Lakers.</div> D= are you serious? I am wondering, who will Nuggets give up for Ron Artest?
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting YourNewChef:</div><div class="quote_post">D= are you serious? I am wondering, who will Nuggets give up for Ron Artest?</div> Probably Nene.
Trade Scenario Mitch, if you can pull of Artest for George and Walton, that makes up for the Kwame deal.
if i was the GM for the pacers i would rather pull an artest deal for Nene and watson just because i have a feeling that nene will be big in the future
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting dtpxcore:</div><div class="quote_post">Mitch, if you can pull of Artest for George and Walton, that makes up for the Kwame deal.</div> By the way, Mitch, if you can pull off LeBron James for Brian Cook and Sasha Vujacic, that makes up for the Shaq deal.
ESPN coast to coast just said the Pacers are talking to the Lakers right now, and possibly the Nuggets as well. They (the Pacers) are not looking for equal value, according to espn. They just want a good young prospect who does not have a long term contract so that the Pacers will have some room to maneuver this summer, and just move on from this situation. In other words there just looking to trade him as quick as possible. However, if the Lakers don’t have that young prospect they might involve a third team. Ron Artest the Scottie Pippen to Kobe Bryant’s Michael Jordan?
I will miss Luke Walton if this deal goes through. He's a damn good passer and gets the crowd involved for a momentum boost. Regarding to the Nuggets trade, I thought injured players cannot be traded? Isn't Nene out for the season?

But after hearing that espn clip- I'm intrigued. What about this tidbit I got off SI.com? <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Ron Artest's agent told The Post Indiana was loath to send the St. John's product to any Eastern Conference rival, Pacers CEO Donnie Walsh told The Post he'd make any deal that helps his club, and that includes sending the former Defensive Player of the Year to the Knicks.-- New York Post</div> How realistic is Artest in a Knicks uniform

I can't imagine the Pacers turning a deal down to swap Artest for Odom, if Artest's value is at an all time low. Hopefully Mitch goes low first, but if it takes dealing Odom just get it done. I remember the Pacers were in pursuit of Kwame Brown over the summer. I wonder if they still have any interest in him and hope they can produce another Jermaine O'neal? If the Pacers want young talent the Lakers could offer Von Wafer or Sasha Vujacic along with expiring contracts Slava & George. Or maybe you go with Chris Mihm + Von Wafer, or Chris Mihm + Miami's 2006 1st Round Pick, or Chris Mihm + Slava (expiring contract). I'm just glad the Lakers are in the running at this point and hopefully they land Artest without giving up Odom. Kobe-Odom-Artest could be our Jordan-Pippen-Rodman If Denver is only offering Nene, I can't see the Pacers accepting the deal. Nene is out for the season and his contract ends after this year. Without any cap space to sign him, the Pacers wouldn't be able to afford to bring him back.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Lakerland:</div><div class="quote_post">The smartest thing for the pacers to do would be to trade Wafer and Green for Artest...</div> This doesn't work under the salary cap, Artest makes close to $7M so you would have to include Devean George or Slava in this deal.

man, the suspense is killing me... i just wanna know who gets Artest (hopefully Lakers), iv checked nba.com ; espn.com ; hoopshype.com, every 2 mins hoping for news.

Seriously i'm waiting to see a "breaking report" on sportscenter saying "This just in, According to our own David Aldredge, The Indiana Pacers are reported to have completed a trade earlier this evening that would send Disgruntled forward Ron Artest to the Los Angeles Lakers to play along side Kobe Bryant and Lamar Odom" If we were able to keep Odom that would be pretty tight, but then again- releasing him would free us up to pursue a good big man since Ron Artest is cheap. That's risky tho.... My ideal trade for Artest would be Kwame Brown, Devin Green and Slava's expiring contract for Artest. That way we'd have this lineup: PG- Smush (Jacksons kind of PG just fell into our laps, 7th in Steals in the L) SG- Kobe Bryant (playing incredibly well lately) SF- Ron Artest (Pippen clone except for being a lil unstable) PF- Lamar Odom- (Would average about 15, 10, 4 a game from this position.) C- Andrew Bynum - ( Defends and rebounds well, understand the triangle better than mihm) The only defensive liability in this lineup is Odom. Bynum has long arms and can rebound really well. This lineup could compete for a championship with in 2 years.
