MIAMI -- <u>Miami Heat</u> coach Stan Van Gundy, who led the team to the best record in the Eastern Conference a season ago, resigned Monday citing family reasons. A team official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told The Associated Press that Van Gundy's resignation would be announced later Monday. The team called a news conference for 11 a.m. ET, saying Van Gundy, team president and former coach Pat Riley and Heat owner Micky Arison would appear. It was not immediately clear who would replace Van Gundy, but indications were Riley, who chose him as his successor a little more than two years ago, could return to the sideline. Source
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting B-22:</div><div class="quote_post">I wonder if Van Gundy will be back on the coaching staff as an assistant?</div> That`s what I`m thinking, Riley/SVG/MacAdoo as the top 3 coaching squad, but Van Gundy seemed pretty sincere when he said hes stepping down from all coaching jobs. Then again, he did say the only team he would ever want to coach for is Miami.
why did svg resign, i wonder if the heat will do better under pat riley... pat riley had to step down as head coach 2 years ago and hired svg and now hes back to coaching....
I don't think Stan Van Gundy isn't going to be an assistant coach because he wants to spend more time with his family. I think Pat Riley was pressuring for him to resign.
SVG remains with the HEAT as....free-agent evaluator Never heard of a job like that but i guess he'll be eyeing free agents in the summer.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting WadeDynasty:</div><div class="quote_post">SVG remains with the HEAT as....free-agent evaluator Never heard of a job like that but i guess he'll be eyeing free agents in the summer.</div> Probably just means he gets a box of kleenex, some to cry with and some to wipe his TV screen so he can see all the free-agents sign under Riley. Then he'll have the box to throw at the screen if he disagrees, hence the evaluation part. But somehow he'll get paid a disgusting amount at the same time.
