This forum has been too quiet. I thought I'd put up a topic just for discussion....

Should the Supes trade Flip for Earl Watson?

Flip is a scorer and he has been that 3rd we've been looking for all season long. Watson brings a little more defense...maybe he can help us somewhat on the perimeter. Im not saying that Watson is a total stopper on D, but...you know...He can penetrate and all. We would have to ship out someone else as well though cuz of the differences in the salaries. So...if we were to go through with this trade, who would you include in the deal?

I kind of want to say no, but then again Flip will leave at the end of the season, so why not bring someone in with a longer contract?[does Earl have more years on his contract?]..So yeah I would pull the trigger.

I think Watson's contract is 5/25. A younger, slightly cheaper AD [IMG]

    yeah...well...5/29 to be exact..haha...

I think i would do it too...like lengendisdope said, Flip's gone after this season regardless...and knowing the sonics they'll try and find another rick brunson type and sign him at the nba min and expect him to come in and change games for them. They should pull the trigger and do it soon, because its still early in the season. This could help us turn it a round a bit.

I wouldn't think about doing that trade. If we were hell bent on not offering AD midlevel exception money and threw only peanuts Flip's way this offseason, why would we bring back a player, that we once discarded, for more than double what he is actually worth?

The salaries don't match up so we would be required to give two players for the price of Watson. Now Watson is a serviceable back up, but I don't think that his presence would turn us from a .500 level ball club to an NBA championship caliber team.

Plus don't expect our payroll to increase dramatically over the next 5 years. Our lease agreement with Key Arena has forced Rick Sund to be very frugal with our free agent money--and that frugalness still applies when we are trying to acquire talent through a trade.

The one person that I think would get moved on our team if we were looking to make a trade would be Rashard Lewis. He is only 26, in the prime of his career, and will be looking to opt out in 2007. We would probably be able to get some genuine compensation for him if this ship would sink and as much as I like him as a player, I wouldn't call him irreplaceable.

I also wouldn't be surprised if Flip would resign with Seattle after the season. If they made a commitment to play him a ton of minutes in a reserve role I would think that he would at least consider the option of returning if Seattle offered him the most money. If I were him I would get out of dodge but he seems to be a stand up guy who wouldn't be opposed to being in one place for the rest of his career (and not a journeyman who goes from team to team).

Yeah..I never said that bringing in watson would make us a championship team. I only suggested it because we need some sort of defense on the perimeter. I'll say it again, Watson is no defensive stopper, but its something more than we have.

However, based on the comments that Flip is making, he seems to be satisfied with the 6th man role. He has been playing well as of late, and if he keeps playing this way, I wouldnt mind keeping him.

Why does Flip play while Ridnour sits? Luke has all the tools. I do not get to watch the Sonics much but Ridnour is a spark early on then he sits in the 2nd half. Why?
