<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The streak began innocently. Earl Boykins signed with Golden State as a free agent Nov. 27, 2002, and was given a short stint that night against the Houston. The 5-foot-5 Boykins has been banged around plenty since then. But he has kept playing. Until Tuesday. Boykins' streak of 253 consecutive games played, which had been the sixth-longest active streak in the NBA, ended when the Denver Nuggets guard missed a 101-85 win against Charlotte with a strained left hamstring. "I'll get a new one when I come back," Boykins said. "I'll just start at one." Boykins, injured Monday in practice, was hopeful of keeping the streak alive. But he said athletic trainer Jim Gillen told him, "You're not going to go." A strained hamstring can be aggravated if a player returns too soon. Boykins is not optimistic about playing Thursday in his hometown of Cleveland, saying, "If it's like it is now, I'm not going to go." "If he doesn't play the Cleveland game, he must be seriously hurt," Nuggets center Marcus Camby said. "I never thought he would miss a game. He's been an iron horse . . . He needs to come back healthy." Taking over the No. 6 spot on the NBA's active list is Nuggets guard Andre Miller. He played in No. 226 Tuesday. Boykins said he never had missed an NBA game because of injury, saying his previous injured-list stints were because of stashing. He admitted a concussion sidelined him as an Eastern Michigan senior in 1997-98, his lone previous absence as a result of an injury. With Boykins ailing, Nuggets coach George Karl said that could delay the assignment of rookie guard Julius Hodge to the NBA Development League. The most likely scenario had been to send Hodge, a former North Carolina State player who got a good hand before playing the final minute Tuesday, to the NBADL in the next week. Boykins' injury could affect what happens to point guard Earl Watson. There has been speculation Watson could be traded when eligible Thursday. </div> Source
