"Man, that's David Thompson." Seated courtside, Thompson congratulated Anthony on his season. "I told him to keep it up," Thompson said. "He's really learned the game." Thompson wasn't the only one Anthony was listening to in the stands. With 2 minutes, 41 seconds to play in the game, Anthony went to the free-throw line. The attendance was announced at 13,288, and the crowd had thinned with the Nuggets leading 94-84. So Anthony had no problem hearing the fans. "Somebody in the stands said they'd bet some money that I wouldn't get 40," Anthony said. "I thought I had 30-something, to be honest with you. I had 38 at the time when he was saying that." Anthony made both free throws to reach 40. He made it to 42 by making two free throws with 53.5 seconds to play to top his previous career best of 41 set March 30, 2004, against the Seattle SuperSonics. It's no wonder Anthony didn't realize he was heading for 40-point territory. He attempted 18 shots (making 13) compared with the 30 he launched when he scored 40 on Friday against the Miami Heat. Anthony also made 15 of 18 free throws and added eight rebounds, four assists, four steals and two blocked shots. "That line by Carmelo is off the charts," Charlotte coach Bernie Bickerstaff said. Does 'Melo do anything but score? I know he's a great scorer but he does not seem to do anything else. I got to watch most of the Nuggets-Sonics game and 'Melo while on fire for the 1st half, seemed to disappear at the end when the Nuggets needed him. Boy, Kenyon is one overpriced forward.

His rebounding has regressed, but he can pass and play the lanes well to get steals. He isn't as well rounded as some of the other superstar wing players, but he's been playing lights out the past couple of weeks.
