<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Mitchell said Charlie has not been practicing hard. He also said he was doging it in tonights game that is why he didn't play. He said Charlie needs to quit reading the papers and bring it every day to practice and the games. If he can't maybe he should look for something else to do because he is not guranteed minutes. Sam didn't only slam Charlie he slamed Calderon as well. He said, "We got guys out there throwing one handed passes. The first thing you are taught when you start learning basketball is not to make one handed passes. They have to learn this is the NBA not some pick up game."</div> I wonder why don't we hear him say the same about Jalen!!!
How is this going to help them play any better by blasting them in public? Mitchell needs to keep this garbage private and speak to them personally about it. Calderon and Villanueva are the least of his problems. Araujo, Rose haven't played a decent game all season and the team has yet to learn how to play defense. I'm not happy with Mitchell as the coach anymore. If the team can't put in a good effort every night than it is ultimately the coach's fault. There is a problem when the team lets their opponents shoot above 50% every night and you can't just blame the players for that.
Calderon has been making the same type of passes for the whole season now. I don't see Mitchell complaining about any of the other games he's played well in. Calderon has one bad game and Mitchell feels he needs to blast him out in public. Calderon is 9th in the league in ast/to and has been consistently one of our better players. Why doesn't he blast some of the players that have not played one decent game this whole season? I've given Mitchell the benefit of the doubt so far this season but this really makes me angry.
What's there to say about Jalen? Maybe Jalen is working hard in practice but just sucking, and he's not throwing passes, he's just not hitting shots he normally does, and not getting PT along with it. What's there to say?

How is Mitchell calling out our rookies (of all people) for not putting in an effort? I really hate the criticism of Charlie V. on defense - because as much as it is terrible ... the rest of our team plays awful d as well. Cough **defective coaching** cough
Im concerned about the CV31 not working hard because that is the criticism that follows him around every where he goes. I know after the draft there were a lot of articles saying how motivated he was by all the pre/post draft critcism of him - - let just hope he continues with the work ethic he had in the pre-season and early parts of this season, its a long year so i hope his lackluster play of late its just a mid season lull as opposed to a permanent reversion to his past.

Where did this article come from, anyway? I don't see a source. Anyhow, this sounds like bs cause the Raptors' coach said he was happy just seeing everyone especially the rookies busting their butts off. When has Charlie been such a liability? Then again, in their last game, Villanueva only played 8 minutes. Mad about making one handed passes? Since when did basketball players make two handed passes?
OK.... I seriously don't see how Mitchell's comments are necessary....if you got a problem with your players you speak to them in private....you don't make it a public affair because all you are asking for is the media to come target and tag your team as a team with animosity in the locker room....you know the media will shine it's light on this situation and blow it out of proportions....so why give them this oppurtunity in the first place? I mean this comment on his players is equivalent to if Chris Bosh (the best player on the Raptors) made a public statement saying "Oh....Sam is a bad coach and his defensive schemes just aren't working...you can witness this in our past 2 seasons." Honestly....a team grows together through solving these issues TOGETHER...don't share it with the media...they aren't playing for you so why bother? I have a serious issue with the comments on Charlie...I know of the comments made about him in the past on his work habits and effort, but is there a reason to attack Charlie about it? The guy has been improving and has gained the respect of NBA teams coming into the game knowing they have to guard a deadly shooter and a more than capable defender....he also gained the respect of the best player on the team...to the point where I read an article where Bosh said that him and Charlie are playing great together and they enjoy playing together....In my eyes, since the beginning of the season Charlie has done nothing but improve for this team.... just my 2 cents
I think Sam is doing it with good intentions, I just don't agree with it. Jose as been one of our best energy bringers, and Charlie has been one of our most productive players. I think he should talk to them, but scolding them through the media isn't right. The one thing that I wouldn't have minded him going through the media is, telling Charlie to stop reading the papers. Charlie would notice that one the next day! <div class="quote_poster">Quoting DynastYWarrioR6:</div><div class="quote_post">I mean this comment on his players is equivalent to if Chris Bosh (the best player on the Raptors) made a public statement saying "Oh....Sam is a bad coach and his defensive schemes just aren't working...you can witness this in our past 2 seasons."</div> What Artest said about Carlisle sounds kind of similar to your example lol, except not quite as harsh.
lol now that I look at it yeah...I was just using that as an example of how statements should remain within the team

That guy is the worst coach in the NBA. He's obviously calling himself out on the lack of coaching ie;one handed passes.
i believe Sam is trying to show some constructive criticism, i believe thats what u call it where one gives criticism or yells at you for some reason and you take it and improve on it.

Not that I agree it is right.</div> This is about as pure a case of "Different Strokes for Different Folks" as I've seen. Mitchell understands where Charlie V's trigger is, it's in being publically called out at this point. His comment was that Charlie spends a lot of time reading the newspapers. If that's true, and I know that my guy isn't listening to me in practice, I too would let him know where he lives, in the press clippings. It seems like Charlie got the message, doesn't it I think with a guy like Chris Bosh, the process of motivation is a simple one, because CB4 is a self-motivated guy. To me this shows that Sam has an understanding of his players On the whole I think that a lot of people will bash Sam for what he isn't. Is Sam Mitchell a state-of-the-art X's and O's coach? No. But you know what, there have been a lot of coach's who weren't including some hall of fame guys like Phil Jackson. While Jackson is given a lot of credit as being a hoops guru, his strategies weren't of his own design, he was a proponent of the triangle offense, but not its inventor. What he did really well was manage personalities I think in looking at Sam, you see similar characteristics. Maybe they aren't as developed as a guy like Jackson, but he's working with the same approach. Mitchell is a guy who, I think, can manage personalities well. I think if he has more help strategically, and that's where Mean Gene Keady fits in, the Barneys will be able to reap more out of what Sam is; a guy who can communicate and motivate his team to stick together, which is something that they've done, even through all the losing this year Anyone who's ever played knows that you can't play to what you can't do, you play to your strengths -- I think Sam will be able to do that moving forward Have fun.............
Ok but to call out rookies in the media 20 games into their first season is BS. Actions like that usually work at a time when a really big push is needed. We are seriously resorting to this already ?? To me this is like pushing the panic button if you are a coach. It's a good tool yes - at times .. but it's totally out of context in this case.. Every time in the future Mitchell resorts to this it's going to work less and less...
