I think Devin Harris would give us more of a true point guard than Terry and also plays better defense. He could really reach his potential if given the starting job. I think Terry would be a great 6th man to have a la Van Exel. What do you think on this?

<font color=""Blue"">Well, Thats an interesting question. I was thinking about this earlier this season when Josh Howard was injured, I thought that it should have been Terry, Harris, Daniels, Nowitzki, Dampier, (It would be a small lineup I know...) but I think Avery knows what hes doing and if he doesnt think Devin is ready to start, then so be it. If Devin improves as much as he did from last season to this season again, then he will start, no doubt about it.</font>

Actually, I'd have Devin Harris the "pg", not Jason Terry. Terry is a great scorer, but Devin is a better playmaker

Interesting question, there's a lot of reasons to start him, but I'd be worried about Terry's confidence if you take the responsibility away from him. Last year in the playoffs, Terry was huge for the Mavs, because he was playing with a lot of confidence on the court, and was making the right decisions.

Devin Harris hasn't really proved he can come through when it counts, so for now I think Terry should get the nod.

The Mavs however, do need to find more minutes for Harris. Having him get spot starts and also heavy minutes in crunch time would pay dividends in the post season. Devin Harris is closer to the "pure" point guard you want to run a halfcourt offense. Plus he's great at drawing fouls and getting to the free throw line.

Eventually the Mavs will have to make a decision on who they want to stick with long term. Terry will be a free agent this summer, and the Mavs have to figure out if Harris can replace him, before they elect to not bring Terry back. I don't think Terry comes back if he has to come off the bench, even though it would be in the best interest of the team.

Shape, you touch briefly on something that I was just thinking. If Terry is replaced in the starting lineup, will he want to come back next season? What I would do if I was Avery, bring down his minutes just a tad and give Devin Harris more time. Hell, I wouldn't mind if we saw Devin and Terry in together -- I know it's a Nellie thing, but it worked against Portland and Sacramento.

If Terry can come in with a 6th man role, then I'm sure he would win the award and be extremely important for Dallas

Devin Harris/Marquis Daniels/Josh Howard/Dirk Nowitzki/DeSagana Diop is a great lineup with Jason Terry coming off for either one of the "small 3" (Harris, Daniels or Howard).

This is all assuming that Harris keeps up his great play, and gets more assists. Dallas' big problem this season has been assists and Terry is averaging under 4 a game.

i think devin should start, but at the same time, i think terry is too good not too start...its a weird thing
terry is a shooter...dead eye shooter, and harris is quick penetrate scorer who can get you some assists also.

I would want Harris to start only if Terry happens to play better coming off the bench.

It sounds like a good idea yet if you choose to do this dont expect it to be a smooth ride. There will be lots of ups and downs and might lose a few more games this way. Yet I think the Mavs should do this because it is a possibility that Terry wont be here this year and Devin will be rushed in and if we can get him experiance now we dont have to worry about overpaying Terry because Devin isnt ready. We will definitly need Devin in the playoffs this year so i think the time between Terry and Harris should be split evenly with them palying on the floor together at times, that could be a good scoring and speed combination to compete against teams such as the Suns

I think think they should both play about 28 minutes per game. I think Harris would be a better fit as a starter because he plays hard on defense and Terry could fit the Ben Gordon/Bobby Jackson role off the bench. I say get rid of Stackhouse and have 3 player rotation at the guards position between Harris, Terry, and Daniels with occasional Howard.
