Former NBA great Magic Johnson said Artest doesn't deserve a second chance in the NBA. "It's like saying, 'Magic, should your wife give you another chance?'" Artest said "He's saying Ron Artest should have no more second chances. What's worse -- me saying I want to be traded or you cheating on your wife?"</div>
Lol, well what can you really say. Ron does have a point and Im sure Magic won't talk as much anymore.
Totally disrespectful to one of the legends of the game. Artest is also showing how stupid he really is. Magic did not say he doesn't deserve another chance. He said If he messes up again with his new team then he doesn't deserve to have an NBA contract. Which is more like his 4th chance not his 2nd. Artest should compare the amount of championship rings he has to Magic..OH WAIT!!
Did any of you guys actually hear what Magic Johnson said? I watched the TNT post game show where Magic made the comments and Magic said that he wants Artest to understand that after he gets traded he cant continue to do alot of the things hes been doing or else he wont get another contract in the NBA. Magic wasn't malicious at all, he just wanted Artest to know for his own good that he has to behave himself until his contract is up or else he'll get the T.O. treatment where no teams will ever give him a big, long contract. I don't know whether Artest misunderstood it or if the reporter asking the question reworded what Magic said (I'm assuming the latter) but it in no way did Magic say Artest didnt deserve another chance.
The way Magic Johnson was quoted makes Ron's response sound justified. However, given the real circumstances surrounding his commments they are completely out of line. I am interested to see if Magic makes a response, or if the circumstances surrounding Ron's comment(as Run BJM was getting at) come to light.
magic should mind his own business and i dont blame ron for what he said. If you and your wife/girl were arguing in the street and a guy came up and tried to tell you how to behave then you`d tell him where to get off, only difference is that magic did through tv

But at the same time, Artest is being villified for doing what's becoming increasingly more common in sports -- publicly advocating a trade. Obviously he shouldn't do it, and it's particularly stupid given his history, but is it any where near as bad as some of the other things NBA players commonly do (cheating on your wife, assault, drugs, etc.)? Reggie Miller said in the beginning of the season there were "chemistry" issues behind closed doors with the Pacers. Maybe Artest was feeling alienated by his teammates and coaching staff and wanted a fresh start somewhere more harmonious. That would be understandable.
I think yall are missing what Magic's meaning was. I saw the broadcast and what he was saying is that Ron may have only one more chance before he ends up in a situation like Spree. He may be costing himself free agent money in 2 yrs. with his problems. T.O. situation A great player that a team would rather sit for the season then let them in the locker room. wow
Artest is a moron. How many more boneheaded comments can one make? He obviously completely missed the actual point that Magic made in that statement, and to those who think his comments were justifiable, that's crap. To comment on one's career and the mistakes he's constantly making is one thing, but to comment on what someone does in his personal life is entirely different. What he said was by no means justified, and it just continues to show how dumb Artest really is.
