I honestly think we are just one good role player away from becoming a championship contender. A Marquis Daniels like player. Some one who will get you 14-15 PPG, 5 Reb, and 3 assists. They make your offense run a lot smoother. He has to be consistent to. A lot of our players here in Houston are tooo inconsistent. One night Howard gets you 16, the next night he gets you 4.

For consistency in scoring we have Yao getting us 21 PPG, and T-Mac getting us 24 PPG. Everyone else is too inconsistent and scrubbin right now.

Howard, Swift, Alston, Barry, Wesley... All are good role players, but are becoming extremely inconsistent this year (some have aways been this inconsistent). I want to take Rafer out of that list, because I know he will improve this year, but I will have to hold on that.

I guess we just have to wait for Sura to come back, because he sounds exactly like the player I am talking about. Even though he is a somewhat inconsistent (although not as bad as the others).

It's funny though these players cost between 3-8 million a year (Daniels only const 6.3 mil) but are the most efficient spending wise.

i think the rockets shouldn't trade at all thsi season... but if we have a first round pick still and if its less that 25.. i think we should try to get someone that is more of a catch and shoot person

I'm sure a lot of teams are just one player away from becoming a championship contender, Houston's nothing special.

We have the Yao T-Mac 1-2 punch. A M-Daniels type player is easy to acquire. Nothing special eh? With our junk contracts you should see a move like this b4 March.

And I'm sure you couldn't name 5 teams that are no where near being a championship contender (Houston) and only need a Marquis Daniels type player in order to become one.

i'm not saying that we need an all star like other teams do... [IMG] i'm saying that we jsut need one person that can shoot when left wide open and has a decent defense

Are we a disgruntled Mavs fan who is mad at the fact that we have never had the experience of winning a championship????.............Dream says, hey don't get down chum, just be happy about all the memories that Shawn Bradley has given you.

Back to the topic, like I mentioned in another thread I'm still anxious to see how this Rockets team plays together when they're all healthy........who knows we might have a legitimate shot at contending this year.

Yeah I believe we'll make a move...if we do, I'd prefer a 6'7", 6'8" type of wing who can score and create his own shot so that we dont have to rely on McGrady to create ALL of our offense...I think a deal along the lines of Swift/Wesley/DA for Harrington/Pachulia of Atlanta would be perfect for us...

I don't think Atlanta would be happy dealing Pachulia and Harrington, that's their entire offense not counting Johnson.

Funny how that catch and shoot person sounds a lot like Bobby Sura, who can also play defense and give you 15/5/5 a night.

I can't think of any realistic trade that will be beneficial to us. DA is a guy who's capable of creating his own shot, though he struggles with his fg%. Swift is having his worst season since his rookie year, and I think he will only get better. Wesley doesn't do a whole lot other than hit open threes and defend, and I don't think we can get much value in return for him.

If we get healthy, I think we can be a pretty good team. And if we get Sura back (a huge IF at this point), I think we have a shot at being a legit contender.

I think the one player away could be Kelvin Cato. Him and Yao played very well on the court together if memory serves me correctly. Cato was the physical intimidator and did a lot of the dirty work. Having an extra big man upfront is never a bad thing come playoff time.

Man Shape I think you are the first person (besides myself) who actually thought that Cato did a decent job playing here.........sure Kelvin wasn't a dominating big man, but he played good D, blocked shots, and could finish around the rim.....people always rag on him, but personally I always liked what Kelvin did for us (minus that one terrible season he had).

    edit:

I also liked his hard nosed type attitude.

Add me to the list of those who loved Cato when he was here...he was definitely the PF we needed beside Yao...he was a beast defensively and had a certain toughness on the inside that this team has lacked since he left...

i remember when jeff van gundy was just signed and in a magazine there was a article of cato having a new start with the rockets... then he gets traded when he lost like more than 10 punds that season... . cato was fantastic.... but i think cd was doing a favor for steve, trading cuttino and cato with him..

Wouldn't have happened though. The Magic won't want a straight-up deal involving TMac and Francis, and the contracts of Mobley and Cato were required to make the deal work anyways.

I don't think it'd take too much to reacquire Cato from Orlando now, seeing they shopped him around last season and he's become a bit player in the Magic rotation. Doesn't look like the Magic would like a guard, though.

I wouldn't really want Cato. He's a type of player that you can easily get for cheaper, which by the way I must mention, his contract is huge. I mean, seriously, huge. As in, very very big. Anyways, I think players like Fortson, Gadzuric (come on, Milwaukee isn't even playing him), and Andersen (said it before).

Come on, Danny Fortson over Cato, you must be crazy. When Cato was asked to play along with Yao his game jumped up dramatically. Fortson might be the only one in the NBA who gets more B.S. calls against him then Yao; AND, he is an idiot. There is absolutely no way Andersen or Gadzuric will be a better fit playing along side Yao then Cato, and I don't even like Cato.
