<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"I kind of messed up. I kind of did it the wrong way," Artest said

Artest told the radio audience that he should have talked with coach Rick Carlisle before going public.

"I should have done that. It's important to have a relationship with the coach. Ever since coach got here, I never had a close relationship with him," Artest said.

Pacers CEO Donnie Walsh has tired of Artest's antics.

"I haven't heard any of the interviews, so I don't know what was said," Walsh said. "When I spoke with Ronnie, I said, 'Look, you've asked for a trade. I'm going to go forward with that.' It'd be in our interest if we both didn't say a whole lot about this."

Artest doubted there is any chance he could ever get back in good graces with the Pacers.

"I think I've dug myself in a hole and there's no grip. I can't get back up," Artest said.

Artest said some of the criticism he has received has been unfair. Former NBA great Magic Johnson said Artest doesn't deserve a second chance in the NBA.

"It's like saying, 'Magic, should your wife give you another chance?'" Artest said "He's saying Ron Artest should have no more second chances. What's worse -- me saying I want to be traded or you cheating on your wife?"

It really isn't funny....I'm tired of this Kobe & Shaq style back-and-forth mess.

I just want to watch players play. Magic is a member of the media, but he's at a disadvantage because he's a former player. We know more about him than we do a Tim Legler, or Michelle Tafoya. Thus, when he goes after a player he is subject to a response like this. Artest is right, straight up preaching truth, but he has no right to do so.

I could care less about Magic's status either. I don't think that Artest should respect him as a legend, but as a man.

Look for the Magic Johnson diss tape on True Warier records this fall [IMG] .

Everyone deserves a 2nd chance, this is America.

it seems former teammate reggie miller has a few thoughts on the matter as well. some of his comments are pretty interesting, especially when he dishes on locker room tension between artest and o'neil says that artest having baggage in indiana is a "cop out" rationale for a trade:
    http://boss.streamos.com/wmedia/nba/nbacom...time_051213.asx

(i get a bunch of this stuff filtered to me because i work in sports/entertainment marketing. i'll be sure to filter all the good stuff through.)

hopefully, this bickering and name-calling will subside. artest has to understand that, because he made his announcement public, he's subject to a certain degree of scrutiny... by the fans, by the press and by former and current players. i do honestly believe that artest loves the game and i hope that isn't lost amidst the media mayhem.

This is precisely why teams are hesitant to take on a headcase like Artest...he's immature and unprofessional...sure he's a great talent on the court, but would you want this man representing your organization off the court? For all of his skills, he's 100x worse in his manners and his actions...

I cant stand Artest but does bring up a good point. He does deserve a second chance. However he ran through his 2nd chance about 3 years ago. So how many chances does he need?

This one goes in the "Did he just say that sh*t!!!" category of 2005. Part of you doesn't like Artest sometimes, but the other part respects his brutually honest approach. While most players are always being politically correct, I like the fact Artest say what he feels.

Comments like these, combined with the fact that Vince starts the allstar game every year are great examples of why kids shouldn't have computers [IMG] .

Magic is easily one of the most intelligent superstars in any sport. Still multiply his money through businesses, the man has his hand in everything. Made a mistake, and to our knowledge he learned from it. I'd like to hear what you think makes him stupid.

Artest probably thinks he stood up for himself and gave a message that he won't take any ****. The only problem is that he just confirmed the perception around the league that he's a hothead, by completely taking Magic's comments out of context.

Magic Johnson was just doing his job and analyzing the situation. Artest should have just kept his mouth shut because something that happened years ago with Magic's personal life has nothing to do with Artest's professional problems.

And.. Artest has been given more than his fair share of chances.

Between him wanting to get a summer job at Circuit City for the discount.. the famous brawl.. and now he demanded a trade then changed his mind. Thats not counting the other "issues" he's had in between those.

Oh yeah, didn't he ask for a month off a while ago to promote his rap album? [IMG]

Although what Artest said was true and harsh - it was still out of place.

That's just strange. There's nothing wrong with that.

This is just another example of the media purposely twisting the truth to excite controversy. The reporter told Artest that Magic said he didn't deserve a second chance. He knew Artest doesn't know when to shut up, and he exploited that.

Actually I believe it was at Best Buy, and it wasn't for the discount. It was because he spend all of his money on his crew and had nothing to live on the first summer after his rookie year.

I've heard various versions of the story, but I believe he applied there to get some money to survive.

Edit: Actually you were right, I just looked it up.

Uh no. You are confusing Magic with Sir Charles. Magic is very articulate. Even if he wasn't, he's far from being dumber than a guy like John Rocker or any number of other athletes who speak well but say dumb things.

We all know Artest is an idiot but I must admit he did own Magic on that one.
