Ofcouse We could have resigned Nash instead of getting Damp but now we have Harris who I think is going to be one of the best PG in the league. Steve is getting old and wont perform like he is very much longer.
No because we needed a real center more than anything. Our problem was defense and rebounding and not offense and Dampier helps us out there.
That's always been a very tough question and probably no one wrestled with it more than Cuban and the Mavericks' managership. The new talent seems very promising with Howard, Daniels and Harris and the addition of Jason Terry and Keith Van Horn have not caused the Mavs to lose a step. Point guard is the most important position and the most difficult to play in basketball. Not signing Nash hurt. But Harris is getting better and with Terry they are handling the 1 spot ably with Armstrong ready to jump in when needed. The Mavs are going to need cap room over the next 3 years to keep this group. If the center position can be improved significantly without megabucks, then I expect a move will be made. So count me in the group that believes losing Nash was not a mistake but a painful business decision.
not at all, i love nash, but if we still had him wed be scoring 0329845239 pts a game, but loosing out in the first or second round every year. with the team now i think we have a more rounded team with at least potential to go deep in the playoffs consistently.
More than losing Nash, I regret losing Finley. Other than help Cuban save 50+ mil in cash, it has not helped the team but thus far helped the Spurs. Although the team hasn't missed a beat without them, wish we'd have got something in return for Nash and Finley.
We did get something through free agents, drafts, and trades by losing them. In particular Nash, we got Terry, Harris, and Dampier. For Finley we got another center in Diop.
Sometimes I do regret not re-signing Nash. We need another PG like him who can get us a good amount of assists and find the open man with ease.
Even if we kept Finley, we could of signed Diop. But I would of imagined we would of overpaid someone like Hunter. I wouldn't of minded if we gave Gadzuric the full MLE
Bottom line is we didnt want to let them go, but we are doing better without them. They couldnt play D and we are headed in towards a more D minded team. Nash wouldve been a HUGE hole on Defense, and in our slower offence he wouldnt be the monster he is in PHX. Lets face it, all parties involved are better off.
No. No. No. No. People are mad at us because we gave up Nash when in actuallity he left us. We had Nash for a while and what did it get us, some great memories, entertaining games from start to finish, a look at one of the best pick and roll/pops that the league has ever seen. But it didnt work championship wise. So we had to change our identity and to do that is to change the foundation that held our team up which was Nash and Finley. My opinion, this is our best start(even better than our 14-0 start) ever. We are actual contenders, way closer than before.
Even with Nash we would not be the offensive juggernauts of the suns and we would still struggle with defense. Our team is better suited for the playoffs now.

Why should we worry about how much he forks out, Dampier has been some help because we are having 2 of our best seasons. With Nash, we'd win 60 games but we would of lost again. Along with the right supporting cast, I believe Terry is a lot like other champion PG's (Billups, Parker, Fisher) and that he can lead us. We wouldn't have Diop, we probably would of overpaid someone who we thought could of started (Jerome James or Steven Hunter). But mainly, our defense wouldn't be the same.
Not one bit. Jet fills has filled in perfectly for Nash, and with Harris developing into a PG with some good star-status, that spot should never be a problem for us.
