I didn't say anything about Shaq being a sole warrior in winning anything. In fact, I am saying Shaq needed Kobe to win everything. Please read my post before you post next time. DON'T read one line and start accusing me of contradicting myself.</div>

I think he made an honest mistake and misread your post.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Laker_fan:</div><div class="quote_post">So exactly what was it that he won without Kobe as a starter? Exactly, the answer is NOTHING. I couldn't care less if Shaq made the finals 10 years in a row. Fact is he won NOTHING without Kobe. Are you sure it was just him that bought LA 3 titles? Last I checked, he was doing nothing in LA until Kobe became a starter. You do realise it took Shaq 4 years in LA to win something don't you? You do also realise that the year he won something, was Kobe's second year playing 30+ minutes and the first season Kobe averaged over 20ppg? Shaq done nothing until Kobe averaged 20ppg. If he didn't need Kobe, what was he doing for 3 years in LA without a sidekick?</div>

Well if thats your logic what has Kobe won withotu Shaq? NOTHING

Yeah I can look smart too. [IMG]
Shaq at least got the Lakers to the playoffs. What has Kobe gotten them? A Trip to the Lottery? Hooray!!

Quote me on saying Kobe doesn't/didn't need Shaq to win the 3 rings. My point is, Shaq needed Kobe. I never said Kobe didn't need Shaq.

I don't see how Buss made the smart choice. Shaq changes the game in his team's favour, and regardless of averages, big men are so much more valuable then guards. I don't know why Buss is gloating, Odom and Brown for Shaq is such a bad trade. Even if keeping Kobe was the right move, they should have gotten way more for Shaq.

Well the alternative would have been much worse. You extend Shaq for the $33M a year he wanted and lose Kobe Bryant to the Los Angeles Clippers or Phoenix Suns. Keep in mind Shaq was out of shape at the time, and Kobe Bryant was an UNrestricted free agent. So if Kobe leaves, you get absolutely nothing for him.

With Shaq earning $33M a year the Lakers wouldn't have any cap flexbility to rebuild around him for the rest of his career. They also have no young stars to support him. So how exactly was keeping Shaq the better alternative?

The roster would have been ...

PG - Gary Payton / Sasha Vujacic
SG - Kareem Rush / Tony Bobbitt
SF - Luke Walton / Devean George
PF - Brian Cook / Slava Medvedenko
    C - Shaq O'neal / Vlade Divac

    + 2 other scrubs

    <u>Salary</u>

    Shaq - $ 27,696,430
    Divac - $ 4,903,000
    Payton - $ 4,408,700
    George - $ 4,546,000
    Medvedenko - $ 3,000,000
    Rush - $ 1,174,000
    Cook - $ 971,160
    Vujacic - $ 846,840
    Walton - $ 620,046
    Bobbitt - $ 385,277

    Total - $48,651,453

This would have been the Lakers 2004-05 roster if they decided to keep Shaq instead of Kobe Bryant. The salary cap was $47M in that season, so the Lakers wouldn't have any money to spend on bringing in any significant free agents.

During the 2004-05 season Devean George missed 67 games, Luke Walton missed 21 games, Vlade Divac missed 67 games, Brian Cook missed 10 games, Slava Medvedenko missed 39 games, Kareem Rush missed 34 games, and Shaq missed 9 games.

Now you tell me which scenario you would rather be in? The current situation, or being pretty much stuck with this roster for the next 5 years since Shaq's contract at $33M, makes it close to impossible to sign another big name free agent.

You really think Shaq makes the playoffs with that group of players, considering all the injuries, and playing in the Western Conference?

I find it absolutely hilarious now. This big excuse of a man is still refusing to be 'the man'. Buss states that he thinks he made the right decision. That's it. And here comes the big ego with he's not an honest businessman.....uh...what?

Then to top it off he starts spouting off the number of Finals MVp awards he won...."How many years was Phil there? And how many years we went to the Finals? ... And how many points did I average and how many times was I the MVP?" You forgot one question, how many years was Kobe there and how many times did he bail you out of games with his 3's where if you had made your flippin' free throws we all could have gone to be earlier? I'm sure you just overlooked that question Shaquille.

Really, why does the media still talk to this guy? Finally after his rant he says, "I don't take it personally. I haven't said nothing this year, but I am not going to let someone say something about me and then not come back." Uh, again, what did Buss say other than he feels he made the right decision. Big Idiot, it sounds like the only thing you are doing is taking this personally!

And you stupid freaking kobe haterz are just stupid. I mean seriously all u say is oh lakers cant win without shaq. Well guess what freaking idiots lakers havent won the past 2 championships while that fat bastard was there. Ya viva taco bell shaq was too fat and getting old and that is why Jerry buss traded his lame ass. Any manager in the nba would keep kobe instead of shaq if they had to choose.

And shaq might win in the weak east by beating sixers, magic, indiana and all those weak teams but they will never beat the beast of the east Detroit Pistons and shaq wont ever win another ring.

And maybe i know why you kobe haterz hate him so much. Its because kobe is 27 years old and he is already a 10 year veteran. While Shaq 'O Wack is sitting at home via retirement, kobe would probably have his sixth or seventh ring.
