<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> HOUSTON (Ticker) - The Houston Rockets proved they couldn't win without Tracy McGrady. Now they will have to prove they can win without Yao Ming. The Rockets announced Monday that Yao will be sidelined for at least "several weeks" after undergoing surgery on his left big toe. </div> http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=AjIa...ov=st&type=lgns Hm.. Interesting. Thoughts?
The Rockets just can't seem to catch a break. First Sura, then Tmac and now Yao. I have a feeling though that the Rockets will do better with Tmac then how they played with only Yao.
"Several weeks"? That sounds like Yao could be possibly be gone for a couple months. And if Mutombo is going to miss a significant amount of time with his injury as well, we could be in deep trouble. I was confident that we could make the playoffs before, but now I don't know. Terrible news.
rockets should just give up this season or something... injury after injury... juan, then sura, then tracy, then alston, then barry, then tracy again, then barry again, then anderson, then yao, then mutombo we are 6 players short that plays at least 10 minutes per game.... barry: we will miss his 3 pointers and effort anderson: we will miss his penetration that he just started to do alston: has yet to proove sura: passion, size, and chemistry yao: MISSING A 3 TIME ALLSTAR STARTER AND A 7-6 FOOT GUY mutombo: we will miss his "not in my house" finger wagging
I just read the whole article and it's actually worse than it seems. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Rockets team physician Dr. Tom Clanton performed the surgery that cleaned out an infection in Yao's toe. Yao was diagnosed with osteomyelitis, which is common inflammation of the bone caused by bacteria. http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=rock...ov=st&type=lgns</div> And someone on CF posted this about osteomyelitis <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Osteomyelitis is an acute or chronic bone infection, usually caused by bacteria. The infection that causes osteomyelitis often is in another part of the body and spreads to the bone via the blood. Affected bone may have been predisposed to infection because of recent trauma. In children, the long bones are usually affected. In adults, the vertebrae and the pelvis are most commonly affected. Bone infection can be caused by bacteria or by fungus. When the bone is infected, pus is produced within the bone, which may result in an abscess. The abscess then deprives the bone of its blood supply. Chronic osteomyelitis results when bone tissue dies as a result of the lost blood supply. Chronic infection can persist intermittently for years. Risk factors are recent trauma, diabetes, hemodialysis, and intravenous drug abuse. People who have had their spleen removed are also at higher risk for osteomyelitis. The incidence of osteomyelitis is 2 in 10,000 people. </div> Not good at all.
I guess it was too good to be true to have a giant without some chronic health problem of some kind. Who ever heard of a 7'6" iron man? We can only hope that this surgery fixes it once and for all. But who knows.
Anyone that wants to cry, feel free to. We're all mature here to accept that. Especially when something like this happens. With Yao after for this presumed several weeks, which could take at least a month, we're without our second best player and our anchor. What makes it worse is that Mutumbo just dislocated his finger so we don't even have a backup center anymore considering that Swift is starting. However, because Swift is such an athletic center, I expect him to average at least thirty three minutes a game given the circumstances. The only thing that worries me with this is his foul trouble. Even in limited minutes he has been picking up too much fouls. Looks like he's going to get his chance to prove himself now. Philadelphia was put in this situation earlier in the season without Dalembert (although he holds to candle to Yao) and played decent without a backup. Still, they had Iverson and Webber holding it down while we just have McGrady. Oh, and we damned better hope that Mutumbo will heal faster than a thirty nine year old.
how is yao so unlucky to be that 2 ppl our of 10,000? yao has done no sin in his life, and gets this? yao has been punished by media now this? tracy just got back and now this? rockets were on a roll now this? rockets were playoff contenders now this?
Even with all these injuries I just have a gut feeling T-Mac will show why he should be considered for MVP. I personally had him winning it and now that the Rockets will play with adversity I just have a feeling in my stomach that he will keep this time alive and most importantly on a winning pace. If I was a Rockets fan I wouldn't be worried. If Kobe is able to maintain a .500+ record with the mediocrity he is surrounded by why can't T-Mac do it? But hey, that's just the way I see it.

And what happens if McGrady has to miss time again with him carrying the team on his back? The possibilities are too heinous to imagine.

The best scoring options we have at this point are Head and Howard since Anderson's out. Swift has been seriously inconsistent with his rebounding and points while the same goes to Wesley who can go off some nights but remain cold others. But after thinking this through, hey at least we have McGrady. I have a feeling the former two time scoring champion will be showing off his offensive onslaughts once again. I mean, it could have been worse. But I'm not going to say anything in hopes I won't jinx anything.
You are right in every single way durvasa. I made my comments based solely on predilection. You being a fan I know you've had those type of "feelings" when your team is going to do well against X team. In this case, again, I just have a good feeling that T-Mac will do some magic. Those nagging back injuries will magically go away.
I am so sad right now, hope Yao take his time and not rush back,so he can heal well, sounds pretty serious. what un unlucky season for the Rox.:'(
Matt Jackson (from Sports Radio 610) apparently is saying that Yao will be gone till February. That's what I hear from the ClutchFans MB.

I've heard Mutombo may be back as soon as Wednesday's game against the Raptors... but Yao...out till February? That scares me... Swift is going to have to prove his worth here quickly...
The Rockets misfortunes continue with this news. Out until February? I don't see how the Rockets can stay in the playoff race if Yao is out for 6 to 8 weeks. McGrady is a great player, but Yao anchors the team because of inside presence. The Rockets are going to have to rely on inconsistent players, playing consistent basketball. A few of these guys will need to have career years. Maybe the Rockets get on the phone and get into the Ron Artest sweepstakes after finding out this news?
wow. This has been the unluckiest Rockets season ever. 17-17 looks like a long shot now. I remember saying that 17-17 should never happen unless we suffered serious injury problems. Anything COULD happen in this game. ERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR I am so pissed. I didn't care that the rest of the scrubs were injured, as long as we had T-Mac and Yao. T-Mac and Yao will win you games. But T-Mac and....NO ONE. That 1-21 Orlando team had a WAY better line up than the Rockets do now. Worst season ever. If we can maintain a 500 team record by the All Star Break, I have a feeling that we will make it into the playoffs and make some noise. I HATE INJURIES!
