New York doesn't have the money to afford him. Unrestricted free agent meaning he takes a major pay cut, but I think he is in Cleveland for a long time.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting SP23:</div><div class="quote_post">Probably bird rights and being a restricted FA and stuff like that. And since the Cavs have him they can offer more than anybody else and he has to stay with them. So, basically he'd have to ask for a trade like Joe Johnson did. I doubt that would ever happen though.</div>
Yes, the Cavs can offer more money in his contract but the potential endorsements if he went to New York? Through the roof. His nike contact also has a clause where he would recieve nearly twice the money. I hope this happens but I don't think it will.

He ain't going nowhere at all. He started in his home town area and he will stay there. He is the man there, the franchise, the team and the city of Cleveland. He will stay as long as he plays. Plus, dodgy sources = dodgy rumours.

She says she knows this guy who's works in the trading area of the NBA. So basically, she said that Lebron told her friend that he plans to go to New York. You think it's true?</div>
    Yeah...to play the Knicks. [IMG]

The Nike Bonus is probably a myth. Why can't some Oil company subsidize the Rockets,or Microsoft subsidize the Sonics? Well, they CAN..as owners, but NOT as a way around THE CAP and LEAGUE RULES. A Team Specific bonus UNFAIRLY alters the "level playing field" and does financial harm (can you say lawsuit?) to other teams. Further,Nike COULD get blackballed by every other team,or even the NBA as a whole. Nike COULD face a boycott that would make the Tuna boycott look like lunch money. Nike would risk HUGE troubles to maybe sell a few thousand more shoes. They would spend MILLIONS??? Yet would need to sell...oh, about 500,000 EXTRA pairs to pay the bonus....and they'd LOSE that many sales to pissed off fans.

NY and LA,as big cities, media centers are going to have SOME advantages. If Nike,or some other company, tries playing kingmaker, there will be a helluva backlash

Why would Lebron want to go to New York and restart? Caveliers are bringing in players to compliment him. New York isnt gona bring him anything. He has Larry Hughes and Ilgauskas in Cleveland and is way better then what New Yorks gona have. With the cap space New York has. LOL

They would sell more than a "few thousand" more shoes in LA or New York. As for a boy cott- it's near impossible, The NBA makes it's money off corporations, and Nike is one of it's biggest supporters- Jordan, Melo, Kobe, Vince, James, GP, Shaq (his brand is owned by Nike), and that's just naming a few big names- there's no way the NBA would or could stop the use of Nike products, even if they wanted to.

Do you think the NBA would really go to court to fight one of the worlds biggest corporations and face lawsuits from countless players JUST so one player can stay with his team?

As for James in NY- not going to happen. If he does leave, it'll be for LA. There's just as much money out there, as well as more peices to win with. He's a friend of Kobe's, and looks up to him tremendously and would have no problem sharing the spot light. It's not going to happen for a million reasons like salary cap issues, the fact that they play practically the same position and blah blah blah....either way- LeBron isn't leaving Ohio for NY or LA, the only way he could ever end up in LA is if the cavs got Kobe in return...

The whole big market endorsement thing is a myth plain and simple. The whole big market thing goes back to the old days of basketball where the size of a city affected the marketablility if a player. That was before cable, before the internet before the mass media we have today. lebron is already the highest paid endorser of the NBA.

If its all about market size why isn't starbury the face of nike or rbk or adiddas?

If Nike is important to the NBA,the NBA is as important to Nike. Reebok,Addidas etc would be happy to fill the void. Were Nike,or whoever,to thwart the whole concept of the cap,to subsidize a team outside the rules,29 other teams and their fans would be a major backlash.

If you figure some 10 million people in the NYC area, maybe they sell 50,000 pairs of Air LeBrons no matter where he is,and 150,000 in the area if he's a Knick. Subtract 40,000 pairs NOT sold in Ohio, and even IF other fans do not backlash...its 60,000 pairs and they give LJ $1000000,or about $14 a pair, which eats up a lot of the profits. Lawsuits or a backlash would be a very serious risk,a risk than can do serious damage. Why would Nike face a big risk for a small gain?

Lebron is the worlds largest mama's boy. he just bought his mom a new crib in akron, he's not leaving. and even if he did, why would he go to the knicks to be the ring leader of the NBA's biggest circus? seriously, why would he leave his roots, and a team that is being built around him to play for an underachieving sub par basketball team such as the knicks?

Lol youve hit the bullseye with that Circus. Even the ringmaster doesnt know how to run it!

The nike bonus is rumoured to be in Los Angeles, New York and ............................................ Chicago! Yes folks, LJ23 may land a contract in Chicago who will most likely be contenders by this time and will have the big men, Guards and forwards to surround LJ with some players for a CHIP. but thats IF, yes IF cleveland screws things up!
