Topic He has been quiet with the absence of yao ming i though he would for sure lead the team in points and would get alot more rebounds? Sorry if i missed anything thanks
Lots of factors: - he's not hitting his outside shot with consistency. - he doesn't have the explosiveness off the dribble to beat double teams (he appears to have lost a step) - very few transition opportunities due to inability to force turnovers or grab defensive boards - other players aren't hitting outside shots, which makes it safe for defenses to double up on McGrady
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting durvasa:</div><div class="quote_post">he doesn't have the explosiveness off the dribble to beat double teams (he appears to have lost a step)</div> I don't think McGrady has lost a step at all. During the last two games, he still displays moments of explosiveness. He just doesn't seem like he wants to make use of it anymore, and wants to get his teammates involved. No one knows what's going through his mind right now, but if he doesn't score 25, we don't win. Seems like TMac's given up on the season even before the most pessimistic fans have.
1. double team, triple team, no one to make the shot 2. pressure 3. hes still no fully recover from the back injury, and hes worried about it 4. his child is born 5. reminds him when he was in orlando 6. worried that he is going to be traded
the only reason he is posting up such horrible numbers is that he has not yet recovered completely from his previous back injury. In orlando two years ago he could put up 40 points with three guys on him. He has not lost any steps he simply cannot keep on displaying explosive movements because it hurts his back so much and i guess the back also inhibits his ability to hit jump shots because his elevation can't be that high consistently. but it seems that remember when he returned early from the first back injury i don't think that was such a good idea.
The Rockets will never trade TMac, first and foremost. I would say between the two, Yao would be more likely. Doubt either will ever be dealt though. With no other one on one players, TMac has all the pressure on him to score and get others involved. Pick and rolls with the forwards are easily allowing teams to double him with a taller and bigger guy(JVG fault for not changing his plan of attack). How bout a pick and roll with a guard so if they do double, TMac and can still see over the smaller players(only seen it once and Moochie knocked down an open jumper. The most telling reason is that TMac is a rythm and streak shooter. With all the attention he is getting he cannot get into any rythm. That is why he has not been able to get it going down the stretches of games. Its almost impossible throughout a game for TMac to get to the basket with guys hanging on him. Every opposing player is willing to leave their man to get him, BECAUSE ITS WORKING.
Sad that these so called "nbball players" can't even hit an open jumper enough to have a defender on them atleast 60% of the time.
Well it's like everyone else has been saying The double teams are hurting the most I think his back is still giving him problems.......and it really pains me to say that No one else is really doing anything
I have been wondering for years now how you can call yourself an NBA player, make millions of Dollars and are unable to hit open jump shots(Or free throws!!??)The midrange jumper is really a lost art.........
yes it is...........only a couple of players come to mind (off the top of my head) who hit the midrange jumper with consistency (Rip Hamilton and Nash)
hes not 100% his back is sort of still bothering him. he gets doubled every night which makes it hard for him to score. and Yao is out, with Yao out the D focuses more on Tmac.
TMac is playing the right way.. if he's double or triple teamed, he passes to the open guy. The open guy rarely hits the shot, and teams have no incentive to back off of TMac. The same thing happened when Yao was out. They crowd Yao inside and no one hits from outside to relieve the pressure.
