Hey i was thinking for awhile and it came to me that houston with the talent it has right now could make a few wins. but its a new style offence jvg wouild never run in his life unless things go real bad and things are real bad right now so this is my idea after alston comes back and howard gets out of his hot streak and stromile finally understands the defence/offensive schemes My idea would be with this line up.
    C-Stromile Swift
    Pf-Stephen Graham
    Sf-Tracy Mcgrady
    Sg-Luther Head
    Pg-Rafter ALston

That would be a good line up to out run the other team and get some easy baskets and an offence that luther head mcgrady swift alston and graham allw ould thrive in. What are your thoughts of this idea?

So you want to have a guy 6’6” playing power forward? Along side a 6’9” “center” in Stromile Swift? The more physical/taller western conference squads would dominate that lineup. Teams like the Suns, Mavericks, Timberwolves, Spurs, etc would all have field days going up against that lineup. Not only would your front court be undersized, but also your back court as well with a 6’2” Rafer Alston playing along side a 6’3” Luther Head. Your starting lineup would range in height from 6’2”-6’9” in the western conference, but hey what do I know?

why the hell u count on a 6'6 rookie to play our stater forward for god sake? How can u make that statement. In addition, DEKE is gonna be back in a few days, Swift gets no chance to start at all since he has no clue about our offensive and defensive play at all. This is not even a plausible line-up.

Stephen Graham isn't a power forward, not even close. He might be strong, but he's an average rebounder and has no post games. He's a wing player, pure and simple.

it'd be even better with mutumbo back you if howard starts to struggle again you could make
    c-mutumbo
    pf-swift
    sf-mcgrady
    sg-luther
    pg-alston
i never expected both line ups to be exactly as i ment but the point of the two lineups my thoughts were to get the team running more and get a few more easy lay ups and dunks. but with mutumbo back its even better now you have one legitamate shot blocker with a developing one. but you have to admit this line up would be solid on the run and the basis of starting graham at power forward was because i read that his body and athletiiusm is compared to that of shawn marion so i thought maybe he could knda play like him and i understand that he is an excited rookie but the point of the two offence was more scoring opurtunities for mcgrady becuz right now he is struggling with the half court stuff so if we put on the court surperior court speed and quickness we can get him going by fast break baskets and also stromile swift would look a lot better on the run

A lineup of Head, TMac, Alston, Graham and Jon Barry will also be great on the run. How about on defense though? Shawn Marion gets by at power forward because he is a superior defender. Graham is nowhere near.

The point of the way team is run isn't meant to make Swift look good. He looks like crap no matter how he plays.

First of all, use periods [IMG].

Secondly, you can't compare Graham to Marion one bit. Although both of athleticism and some quickness going for them, Marion has a lot more strength and height which allows him to play powerforward. He can work down low while I honestly can't see Stephen Graham doing that. I mean, there's a reason why Graham didn't get drafted. His skills need a lot of refining and he lacks a consistent jumper. Meanwhile, Marion can do all of those things.

I think he was talking about opening up the offense for McGrady.

What i was saying with my second line up propsed i was saying that it would be solid defensively yet be able to run. If we run it opens up offence for head alston mcgrady and stromile even mutumbo. Thats what the rockets need right now an opening to a low scoring offence

How would it be solid defensively? How will Stephen Graham guard Tim Duncan? The Suns were the worst defensive team in the league last year because they were small.

i said my second line up the one that does not include stephen graham that lin up is solid defensively. Mutumbo Swift Mcgrady Head Alston. The Defensive problems will probably be caused by head and alston but from what i heard luther head can guard 6'6" guyz i dunno how but people say he can. with this line up solid defence and superior quickness in all five positions

Alston has been in a funk all season; McGrady isn't All-NBA Defensive Team yet, and Head is a rookie. Add in the 40-year old Mutombo and retarded Stromile Swift, and I can hardly see that lineup being great defensively. Mutombo is the only rebounder; I'd rather have Howard instead of Swift starting at the four. Stro can rot on the bench for all I care, Lonny Baxter has done more in two games than Swift has done all season.

first of mutombo as a starter hell no but between swift and him maybe but still the man is 39 no way in hell he plays more than 20 minutes swift and him will share minutes at the 5 while Yao's out. Another reason swift is doing bad is cause JVG is trying to use him as a 5 when he is a pf and he is better in an unstructered offense. I expect when alston comes back we will do a bit better and hopefully tmac does as well but he could be playing hurt.

Yeah.......that lineup is All Scrub Team.........But I would like to see this line up starting:

    <div align="center">Head
    TMac
    Stro
    Howard
    Deke</div>

I think we can win with this line up, considering the injuries. I don't know if DA or Deke are healthy, but I think we can win with this line up.

I think it's partly Van Gundy's fault. Swift should be getting easy buckets in the open court, but how can he do that if we NEVER have any fast breaks. Swift is a poor man Kenyon Martin, he excels in the open court, but is very limited in half court. Van Gundy's offense just doesn't allow fast breaks. You can tell, because after we rebound, the point never gets out on the outlet pass. He walks the ball up court and calls the play. The Rockets need to run more.

Stro at small forward? Interesting, but I doubt he can keep up with the speedy small forwards in the league. He already has enough trouble with the power forwards who play on the outside (ie. Dirk, Miller).

As for the fast breaks, I believe that your power forward/center, no matter how athletic he is, shouldn't be getting out on the fast break unless he can get a rebound. Swift isn't putting in work boxing opponents out, choosing instead to leak out for the break. Why reward him for such selfish behaviour?

i am not sure u should be bashing stromile that much. Sure he looks like a scrub and all but haven't u ever questioned the system??? We all know that jeff van gundy is a great defensive coach a very structure defensive coach that limits a lot of what you do. For example van gundy forces yao to go out and hedge when his man sets a pick. This tires out yao and gets him out of position if they pass to his man. Van gundy's defence is very structured making swift just keep thinking and thinking. Right now he just isn't playing basketball but only thinking what he is doing basketball on the court. If we had a coach with more flexibility we would be able to have a much better ball club. Instead of trying to make swift post up and do post moves they should make him do cuts to beat his man with his quickness instead of the bulk he does not have. On Defence it seems good what they are doing but van gundy should teach him to use his athletesim better and rebound using that atheletism to block and rebound. GIVE SWIFT MORE TIME BEFORE YOU CONCLUDE TO HIM BEING A BUST. I REMEMBER A WHOLE BUNCH OF PEOPLE TELLING YAO WAS A BUST IN HIS FIRST HALF OF SEASON THAN HE STARTED TO SHOW FLASHES AND PEOPLE STARTED TO PRAISE HIM. O and if u don't start deke at center who you start and i said my line up if more of a running line up never said it would be great defensively just solid.

O and if u don't start deke at center who you start and i said my line up if more of a running line up never said it would be great defensively just solid.</div>When Yao comes out and badgers the point guard on a pick-and-roll, Van Gundy's system ensures that if Yao's man cuts to the basket, someone, mostly Howard or Swift, would cover for him by stepping into the lane. Many teams use this method and if Yao were to stay put on picks like Shaq, there would just be a lot of open J's for the opponents. It's simple help defense run in high schools, and Howard is doing a great job of stepping in. Swift, though, looks lost and blows the assignment very often.

As for offense, where else would you want Swift besides the low block? He doesn't shoot like Dirk and defenders will not come out to challenge him at the three-point line. Swift's jumper is very inconsistent and he actually has some low-post moves. What I hate the most about him though is he always goes for the flashy dunk instead of a soft lay-in. At times, he would try to throw it down from five feet out and a man between the basket and the ball. What that results in is adjustments in midair for Swift and a blotched easy shot. It's simple, and I don't know why Swift doesn't have the basketball IQ to adjust before going up.

As for him being a bust, Swift has been a bust ever since he entered the NBA. People argue all the time about his lack of production in Memphis because of the big men in front of him, but now we're seeing why he's fit for only 15 minutes a game and not 30. He's had six years to tap into that potential, and he's yet to do so. Are we going to wait till he's 30?

I agree that he probably is a bust but if all you knew it why did most rockets fans go crazy when we signed swift??? I wanted us to go for wilcox because he is more of a banger though a lesser shot blocker and seemed to produce a lot more when given the chance. The idea of using cuts was trying to get him to use his quickness and athletic ability more. Like him comming out to set picks for the off ball guy to cut and stuff or if he does get the ball on the outside he could take his man off the dribble if he had the ball handling i am not sure if he has that but maybe. Or make him an offensive board crasher after the shot is off or something because you have to make good use of all that athletisum i am not sure if its van gundies fault for not instructing him or if stromile is just retarded but you can't let all that athletic ability just go to waste. And yess i agree stromile seems like he trying to embarass the other team more than playing basketball

i wasn't excited when houston signed swift. i thought he was a decent pickup considering the salary and the fact he was likely the best available free agent PF. but I watched him play in Vancouver his first season and he hasn't changed one bit. he looks lost on the court all the time and doesn't seem to put in the effort to box people out. i figured he'd be good for Yao in that he can provide weakside help and shotblocking as well as a decent mid-range shooter, but that hasn't happened and Juwan has outworked him for the starting spot so far this year. my opinion is, he has been given every opportunity to step up and prove his worth, and so far has not done anything to show he deserves the minutes or coach JVG's confidence.
