wow this is long..make sure you read it ALL before you reply to it

Perhaps now I can calmly discuss this one.

    first,
On the subject of public financing.
Apperently there are few people posting here who actually understand how these deals get done. In this day and age, there is no one and I do mean NO ONE that privately finances an arena. And why should they? Does not the community as a whole benifit from an arena deal? Take a look at it this way... an NBA team uses the facility 41 times a year for regular season games, maybe 2 or 3 pre season games and maybe 5-10 post season games assuming they make the playoffs. At most this comes to 55 dates for the team... out of 365 days thats its available. The rest of the time its concerts, public speakers, circus, local events ect. Shouldnt the community have a stake in that? If a community wants a place to have these types of events, they should put in for it also.
Those who say its corporate welfare for millionaires are idiots who will never
be millionaires on their own right because they have no understanding of these things.

Second; The Maloofs have never once said they were not going to invest any of their own money into the deal. They have been very vocal on the fact that they fully expect to drop a lot of dough on the project, but for some of the above reasons, they werent going to completely finance it themselves. So everyone quit acting like they are trying to get the public to pay for it in whole.

Third; The taxes that are being bandied about in order to pay for them are actually going to rarely hit those who live in Sacramento. Its a lot of luxury and use taxes in the form of hotel rooms, car rentals and stuff like that. I dont know about any of you, but I rarely get a hotel room in the same city I live in. And its basically the same way that Phx paid for their arena.

Fourth; The real disconnect between getting this done and how badly its being portrayed in the media is due to innefective city leadership. Rudin is an idiot who couldnt close a deal like this no matter how hard she tried, the rest of the city council is using it for 5pm local news sound bites crying about how we are taking money (which technically doesnt even exist yet) away from starving underpriviliged school children which is a BOLD FACED LIE.

and lastly because there is no way I can keep myself from blasting back at certain previous posts... are you kidding me with your comparisons to the mondavi center? you might as well be trying to compare the MET with MSG (those of you in NY will understand what Im sayin here).
Sacramento is not a 'cheap' city and if they arent really that loyal how do you explain the string of sellout crowds from the days when the Kings were the laughing stock of the league? you cant say that 10 years down the road it was still a new and novel thing and this arena (and its previous version) have always been known throughout the league as one of the loudest and most loyal fan bases in any NBA city. Its something players have said to local media in cities outside Sacramento and in the national media as well.

Those of you who say that the Maloof's dont contribute to the local community have NO CLUE what you are talking about. Check out what Organization does for the community here: http://www.nba.com/kings/community/Kings_C...e_Programs.html
They drop a large amount of dough in the community as a matter of fact, I believe their actions far outweigh your words.

Thanks for the breakdown harbingerofdoom. I heard the Maloofs pulled their offer off the table recently? I think they were planning to pay up to 30% for a new stadium or up to $30Million. I forget the exact figures involved.

yes, it was something in that neighborhood. And they havnt exactly pulled the offer from the table. Negotiations were halted right about when camp started and they basicly said they dont want to have to deal with that and deal with getting the season kicked off at the same time. They are really wanting to get the deal done in the off season.. and the way this season has gotten off to, I cant say that I blame them for that one...
