<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Indiana is nearing a three-team trade that would send swingman Ron Artest to the Los Angeles Lakers, a league source has told ProBasketballNews.com. Meanwhile, Lakers forward Devean George would end up in Indiana. The third team involved in the proposed trade is the Toronto Raptors, according to the source. The Raptors would send Jalen Rose to Los Angeles -- and in return receive Pacers forward Austin Croshere and at least one player from the Lakers. The source added that George and an undetermined player from the Raptors -- or perhaps a draft pick -- would be to dealt to the Pacers. "Basically, it's Artest for Devean George, with the Raptors getting involved to make it work financially," the source said. "When and if it happens, this will be a trade that consists of plenty of throw-ins." Three weeks ago, Artest told the Indianapolis Star that he wanted to be traded. He later apologized to his teammates and told management he would like to remain with the team. But Pacers president Larry Bird told The Indianapolis Star on Monday that he felt "betrayed" by Artest, and said the Pacers will indeed trade him. Artest has been inactive since his comments about wanting to be traded, which came after he was injured against Dallas on Dec. 6. Since then, the Pacers have been flooded with trade requests. Pacers CEO Donnie Walsh told the Associated Press on Wednesday the team had narrowed its options down from about 10 teams this week, but did not indicate when a trade might occur. Artest averaged 19.4 points and 4.9 rebounds through 16 games this season. He was suspended for 73 games last year after the well-documented brawl during a game in Detroit.</div> Source YES! I was wondering why Devean George got the start tonight, he's likely being showcased.
The Lakers would be getting the best part of this deal if it went down in terms of talent. however, they would be getting put in cap hell by having to add Rose’s contract. Be that as it may they still come out looking good. The Raptors meanwhile I guess are trying to just get cap room to rebuild. I don’t really see them getting anything from this trade, but that. It would be sad to see Devean George leave Los Angeles he is one of those original Lakers bunch left from the championship teams, but when you get a deal like this you can’t pass it up.
Remember when you guys had Ruben Patterson, and he got traded because he was killing Kobe's confidence by playing tough D on him in practice?? Getting Artest could be like Deja vu. Of course I'm only half serious, Kobe was a lot younger then. But I believe that chemistry with Kobe would be an issue if this trade happens.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting K8B:</div><div class="quote_post">So it would be PG - Rose SG - Kobe SF - Artest PF - Lamar C - Mihm Smush n Kwame off of the bench?</div>I actually think the only way the Salaries would work is if Odom were to be involved in this deal. However, I'm not sure exactly if they do have to include him.
Yeah, that's what I thought. I think Odom would be involved in the deal. PG - Smush or Rose SG - Kobe SF - Artest PF - Cook or Kwame C - Mihm or Kwame Me, personally, I like a lineup with Smush, Kobe, Artest, Cook, and Kwame. Rose and Mihm heading the 2nd unit. I think this trade will really help L.A. There will be no more inconsistency from Lamar, but consistent defense and perfect 2nd hand scoring from Artest for Kobe. I think Artest'll be able to keep control of himself, if Phil can't do it. No one can.

I remember PJax or West was quoted saying if Patterson was really shutting Kobe down in practice, he would still be a Laker. This trade is ideal on all fronts for the Lakers. Not only do they upgrade their talent, they actually save money because both Artest and Rose fit in the 2007 plan. Rose expires in 2007, and unloading Odom will allow the team to save an additional $5.7M in 2007. If Artest doesn't work out, he won't be extended after he opts out in 2008. I just hope this gets officially done ASAP.
I hope it's done by the end of the first week in January. This deal can't fall apart. This is vital for the Lakers post season help, I don't see them getting far, maybe not even in, with the lineup they have right now. Odom just isn't producing consistently, if we would have had some production from him in the Heat game, we would've won that one.

I remember hearing otherwise when he was first sent to Seattle, but it could have just been self-proclaimed "Kobe-Stopper" propaganda. I don't want Artest to be sent to LA, for many reasons. Mainly because I'd like to see how well Kobe leads with role players now that he has a real coach.
I think Kobe's done fairly well this season with role-players, but if the Lakers want to win more than just regular season games, they need to get the right pieces in there. MJ had Pippen, Duncan has Parker and Manu. You need other peaces to win a championship, you know that, I'm not saying you don't. L.A. wants to win, Artest can help that if he can keep his cool, which he should want to if he wants to continue his career in the NBA. He needs to realize that this is his last shot, he demanded a trade, and it looks like he's going to get it. He needs to be thankful and watch himself.
I love Jalen to death and I hope he does get shipped to LA, them being one of my favorite teams and all, but I doubt this will happen. 1) Cap Reasons, 2) Why would the raptors do this deal if they werent recieving anything useful its not like Isiah's there GM.
Ok...so I'm confused....the article says Jalen Rose ends up in LA...as does Artest...somehow...and then a couple people mention Odom being gone, even though that isn't mentioned in the article.... also....I'm not seeing how this trade benefits the Pacers in the least? I mean how official is this? I've had a weird feeling all along that the Lakers would pull of some freak block buster but this is out of wack....anyways- someone answer some of these questions...i'll keep my fingers crosssed

Trading off Jalen for not a lot helps them in the cap situation. They have their future set with Charlie Villaneuva(sp) and Bosh(if he stays). Getting rid of Rose gives them cap relief, something that is required in rebuilding.

I think Odom is involved in the deal, on his way to Indiana. The main thing though, like I mentioned, they get rid of Artest. He's been a cancer to their team this year and requested a trade. They said they would trade him, and that's what they are doing. His trade value isn't that high right now, because of his problems on and off the court. The Clippers were offering Chris Wilcox...hmm..Wilcox or Lamar? As inconsistent as Lamar is, I don't think that is a hard decision.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting shapecity:</div><div class="quote_post">Source YES! Cant wait to see Ron Ron in a Laker uniform. Now should he where #93 i will kill myself. We Cannot have a linebacker (54 Kwame) and a Pass Rusher (93 Ron). I hope he wears #15. Hey get this; a source from BSPN knows the deal is done but they dont want to announce it. Wonder why. And Legler should get a life. Cause hopefully Ron and Rose bring showtime back to L.A Jack Nicholson on Ron Artest:
okay,,,so there is a GOD. wow, after this tough loss against Memphis, I feel much better now. It's all coming together,, with Devean starting an all, and to top it off he played a great game. I hate to see him go, he was one of the originals, knew the triangle well, but hey, he's being traded to a great team, and maybe he can do big things there. I'd like to see Lamar go as well, We just can't afford his inconsistency later down the road, especially if we make it to the playoffs (which we will). I've said it before, I think we should be on a 9 game winning streak. Right now, if this trade rumor is true, we must try and stay focuses on winning the next few games, to keep us in the playoff run. I really think Artest and Kobe will get along just great, with those two on the same team, we are going to be such an amazing defensive squad.
Has anyone played around and found a possible trade that even resembles the one being reported here? The only ones I'm coming up with are pretty ridiculous. IND trades: Ron Artest IND recieves: Medvedenko, Devean George, LAL 2006 First Round Pick LAL trades: Lamar Odom, Kwame Brown, Devean George, Stanislav Medvedenko, 2006 first round pick LAL recieves: Ron Artest, Jalen Rose, Mike James (he would be my guess as this filler to match talent) TOR trades: Jalen Rose, Mike James TOR recieves: Lamar Odom, Kwame Brown This trade makes no sense for Toronto at all. That being said Indy gets 2 expiring contracts and a first round pick, LA trades half their roster and their draft pick (realistically they may have to throw in their 07, 08, or Miami pick too) for some good players and Ron Artest. As a Golden State fan I hate this trade and its not even realistic to beign with. I'm betting this "leaked" proposed trade is BS. I also think Indy has been throwing out a ton of smokescreens with their statements saying they have all-stars available and 19 teams have good offers. Anyone come up with anything slightly realistic that works according to the cap rules?
Mike James is a STUD, you really think we have a chance at getting him?? From what I see, Lakers are getting a HELL of a deal if this is true. Man, I seriously hope this is not just gonna get our hopes up and that this is all *********. But a lot of the pieces are coming together, this may be real. Brian Cook didnt' play because of a Flu? *cough* bullshit *cough* Something is definitely up, with Artest, Lakers can go all the way. Artest with the Lakers in my opinion is a better team than Indiana with Artest.
