SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- Sacramento Kings forward Shareef Abdur-Rahim's mouth will be wired shut for six weeks after he undergoes surgery to repair his broken jaw. Abdur-Rahim's jaw was broken by an elbow from Portland's Zach Randolph in the third quarter of the Kings' loss to the Trail Blazers on Monday night. He was scheduled for surgery Wednesday night, and will be reevaluated in two-to-three weeks, with no timetable set for his return. He is Sacramento's third-leading scorer with 16.5 points, making a career-best 54.7 percent of his shots, along with 6.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. But Abdur-Rahim has struggled to fit into the Kings' motion offense, and the club has struggled in almost every area since his arrival. The loss to Portland dropped last-place Sacramento to 10-17, though the Kings recovered with a victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday despite missing three of their top four scorers. Peja Stojakovic sat out in Los Angeles for the second time in three games with a back injury, and Bonzi Wells is expected to be out for at least two more weeks with a strained muscle in his groin. What's more, veterans Mike Bibby and Brad Miller both have struggled. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/bask...y.ap/index.html Copyright 2005 Associated Press
Kenny Thomas started and dropped 29 and the Kings won. Maybe Sheef is cursed after all, it'll be interesting seeing how things turn out with Kenny starting instead.
I've been telling all along..Kenny T is the man. He's one of the most under rated players in the league. I was really impressed with his play last year with the Kings after the Webber trade. He seemed to be the right fit. No doubt Shareef is talented, but for whatever reason, he just doesn't mesh with his team and disrupts the team chemistry. There was also a rumor circulating during summer that the curse was one of the reasons the Nets didn't sign Shareef.
^ youve been right all along. I think most people knew Thomas is a good player...but you have to admit Shareef is a better player. For whatever reason though this team is winning with 3 starters out. Im actually starting to believe the reason for this teams lack of success so far this season is because they have too many scorers. Having 2-3 scorers in at a time instead of 5 seems to be better for the Kings chemistry. Kevin Martin has also looked really good.
Shareef definitely has more talent than Kenny T. Shareef is more of a slasher and plays in the low post, while Kenny plays more in the high post and has a better mid range jumper, which was kind of how Webber was playing and how Adelman wants to run the offense through the PF. KT is also a better rebounder compared to his size. Bringing both Shareef and Bonzi were good moves by Pietrie, but affected the production of Kenny T and Peja. I think Adelman has finally found his right rotation and its best to bring Shareef off the bench whenever he returns.
It really was a waste to keep Kenny T on the bench, the dude puts up great numbers and is a very good role player. He could start on most teams, and thats probably how he felt. Good to see him getting lots of minutes, I'm sure he'll try to prove that he needs more minutes by putting up numbers as he did the other night.
I think they either need to continue starting Kenny Thomas when SAR gets back, or split the minutes. They're both very good players and have a lot to bring to the table. And I'm not even going to touch on the playing time Corliss and Skinner get. IMO Skinner is one of the better defenders/shot blockers in the league, and Corliss is more defense that the Kings can definately use.
