Twolves Gets: Marbury Artest NY Gets: Any combo of the 3 Trenton Hassell Troy Hudson Michael Olowokandi (expiring contract) Indiana Gets: Wally Szczerbiak
My dad works for the StarTribune which is the big paper here in Minneapolis. I guess Thomas is tired of Larry and Stephon's fighting. And McHale and company know that if they don't do something BIG they're gonna lose on the only reason the fans get out of the cold, KG. With hockey so big up here, and NBA games not cheap, if there was no KG goodbye NBA franchise.
Is this deal official, or still in the works? If it's official I'm trying to figure out why the Knicks do this trade. Even though Marbury has his problems with Brown, the last thing they should do is add more overpaid players to their roster. The contracts of Hudson and Hassell are ridiculous and very long. That's a great trade for the TWolves if Marbury and KG find the chemistry they once had.
^Yes sir. The Knicks don't need a trade like this. Olowokandi although expiring won't make up for Marbury's production. The Knicks have two big expiring contracts and don't need anymore. Hassell and Hudson are too expensive and won't make up Marbury's production. How does this benefit the Knicks or the Pacers?
not official, but since Brown is fed up with Marbury then he's expendable and Candiman is an expiring contract and Hassel is all defense which is what Brown loves he's poor man's T. Prince
It helps the Knicks because they are so far above the cap and extra money means they can land HUGE name in NY that they need, and Wally is they type of player Bird and Pacers love and he's a quick fix while Granger develops

The Knicks will still be over the salary cap if they bring in Hassell & Hudson. They have no flexibility even if they trade Marbury in this deal, because they are taking back two ugly contracts. They still have all these players to pay ... Curry, James, Crawford, QRich, M. Rose I would think the Knicks would at least get some draft picks or some cheap young talent if they unload Steph.
8 million off the books for the Knicks will do absolutely nothing for us. You'll have to take off probably another 70 million for us to have any sort of flexibility. The only way I'll like the trade is if we get some pick(s). Since our pick is going to Chicago this year, we need to not look as embarrassing in June.
Well like I said before my guess is that the trade will be Kandiman and Hassell for Stephon, maybe a draft pick in there somehow, but Larry wants defense and they need more cap space. Kandi, Penny, and Davis are all going to be free agents and the extra money is what Isiah needs, especially if he can dump J. James or Q on someone.
I don't really see why the Pacers do this. They say they're looking for someone of equal talent, well Wally isn't that. The only thing he's good for is shooting the ball, and if he doesn't get his shots in, he'll start to complain. Plus, he brings a nice and expensive contract to boot with him (not sure of the length though). The only team this trade really makes sense for is the TWolves, otherwise all the other teams look they might be getting ripped off and bogged down with big contracts.
The trade looks too lopsided to be true. The TWolves give up a few role players and get back two superstars in return. The Knicks trade their best player and get back an expiring contract and two marginal starters? Even though Olowakandi's contract is coming off the books soon, it won't help the Knicks any. Looks like someone got a little creative and tried to make up a rumor.
Here is an article about Steph and Brown.<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Stephon Marbury's body language sometimes looks so bad that it should come with a seven-second delay. In fact, Larry Brown has spoken to Marbury about his on-court demeanor - back when they were still on speaking terms, of course - and the head coach told his ornery point guard that he wants Marbury to create more positive energy for himself and his teammates. "I've watched him forever," Brown said yesterday. "I very rarely see him smile or get excited. I'd love to see that. I don't know if that's his nature. I've commented to him numerous times that when things are going bad we have to have him with good body language." Marbury said on Thursday that he loves playing for his hometown Knicks and wants to finish his career in New York. And yet, Marbury rarely looks like a player who is enjoying himself. Marbury isn't the first moody player to wear a Knicks uniform. But when your point guard is looked upon to provide leadership, Brown feels it's imperative that Marbury sets a better example for the team. One of Brown's game-day messages to his team is to "have fun." "He's your leader, he's arguably your best player," Brown said of Marbury. "We got a young team. They look up to somebody like him. If he doesn't show positive vibes it's not going to help them. He always tells me, 'No coach, I'm involved, I'm not getting down.' I said, 'Sometimes you have to show them that.' Again, that's not his nature, but it would be helpful." Brown and Marbury have not spoken since Brown criticized his point guard for attempting only seven shots during Wednesday's loss to Orlando. Marbury appeared to be deliberately passive for reasons that remain unclear. The issue has reignited a feud between Brown and Marbury that began during the 2004 Olympics in Athens. "I coached (Stephon) yesterday like I always do," Brown said, when asked why he hasn't met with Marbury one-on-one. "That game is over. We show film and there are a lot of places where we'll coach. I point out things we need him to do just like Channing (Frye), Eddy (Curry) or anybody. "I'll explain myself. We talk about what we're going to do each game so the message is always the same." As for publicly criticizing Marbury for his passive play, Brown said he was only giving an obvious and fair response to a question. Brown even noted that MSG Network broadcasters Mike Breen and John Andariese made several mentions of Marbury's lackluster performance during the game. "I don't think you guys ever heard me say I wasn't pleased with the way he was playing until the last game," Brown said, perhaps forgetting that he was critical of Marbury following losses to the Warriors, Lakers and Bucks. "Even with all the other stuff that's going on every other week, I've never said anything except I was pleased with the way he's been playing and way he's trying. The last game, he was not aggressive. He shot the ball seven times. He deferred. I expressed that. That's one game."</div> http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketba...5p-321977c.html
Sounds like the Wolves are willing to part ways with Wally as well. Here is an article that was just released by ESPN talking about how the Wolves have said they will give anyone on their roster except KG to the Pacers for Artest. The fact that ESPN is reporting this is pretty reliable and I think you might be on to something here. Here is the article link: <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">ESPN - Minnesota is offering Indiana anyone on its roster not named Kevin Garnett in the hope of pairing Artest with KG. That's because the Wolves are as desperate as the Lakers to make a splashy move -- in their case to keep KG energized and confident in the club's direction -- and because they see KG and Artest (assuming Ron-Ron could actually be counted on) as a devastating combo. If Artest wants to score more, as stated in his original trade demand, Garnett is unselfish enough to make that happen. And if Artest is ever going to defer to a teammate, KG also (theoretically) has the juice and presence to make that happen. The Wolves, though, have been trying to pull a third team into the mix to better their chances of assembling a package Indy likes.</div> http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives...from_minnesota/

Besides, which right minded GM would trade James or Richardson for expiring contracts?
I'll tell you what. The Rockets have expiring contracts that they should deal for Q. Just My Opinion as a Rocket fan. SKIP Q TMac Swift Yao Q. got open shots last yr. and right now only the only Rocket not left open is TMac. Everyone else is invited to shoot(that explains the losses with all the injuries. Rockets Expiring contracts Wesley, Bowen, Barry a couple others I think Dont know if the money works. I.Thomas would do it.
The Knicks and Pacers are conspiring to ruin the Spurs chances of making it to the finals again? Why would these two teams knowingly make the Wolves that good? The Pacers could be an ECF quality team with Wally, even though he is a downgrade from Artest. So why would they make a western team that much stronger? The Knicks are insane. Any combo of those three players would be horrible. With Hudson and Hassel they'd be going back to the Scott Layden days of a team stacked with combo guards and forwards. Why would they want Olowokani? Another underacheiving big man to be friends with Jerome James?
This can only be a fantasy. T Wolves unload the guys they overpaid and want to dump,Knicks,Pacers join the fun, send their stars north. Knix pay Kandi to snooze alongside JJames, add another semi-PG. Pacers give a standout on D for a No D shooter......just seems odd
I don't see this trade going for the fact that, Timberwolves are benefitting the most, and do these trades mean more wins for the Knicks and the Raptors? My opinion is no.
