<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Kwame Brown didn't acquit himself too badly, given the circumstances. The Lakers actually were plus-11 in the first half with him on the court, meaning he helped them take a big lead on the Wizards right after the Washington fans dropped the blatant boos on him.

Too bad for Brown that he was minus-10 in the second half and the Lakers lost.

Here's my complaint of the night, and although it's directed at Brown, it is actually more applicable to Lamar Odom, whose emotional tendency has already been brought to light, courtesy of Gary Payton. What's up with the lame smiling and laughing when something goes wrong? If it's supposed to indicate that it doesn't bother them, it's quite obvious that it does and they're unable to use the setback as fuel to gain additional focus, as the great ones do.

Brown tried to laugh off things repeatedly in the second half in Washington. Odom does it all the time. Devean George has a long history of it.

It's not funny. Whatever just went wrong -- especially if it was your own screw-up -- take it seriously and try to do better.</div>

YES. I'm glad someone in the media finally wrote about this. It is annoying the way these guys smile when they make mistakes.

Damn, what a trip, good article.

The other day I can't remember what game it was, but I did notice one of the Laker's smiling (Odom, Brown, or George)

And I was saying to my friend "WHAT THE ***** IS THIS FOOL LAUGHING AT??, THIS ISN'T FUNNY"

Like I was real mad, I'm glad someone did bring this up, what a joke.

The thing that ticks me off is when guys are losing big in the fourth quarter and they are sitting on the bench joking around and laughing as if they don't care at all about the score. I have seen guys smile after they make a mistake either because they disagree with an official's call or they can't believe they just did something so stupid. This isn't as annoying to me because I guess it is a better way to let your anger out rather then driving your elbow into someones face as they run past you. [IMG]

The worst is when guys are clipping their finger nails during blowouts. What's the deal with that? And are sideline pedicures next?

Yeah I saw Odom smiling after the Heat loss, its infuriating watching one of the best players ever work his ass off the entire summer, and play his heart out in every game...only to have his second option laughing it off.

It's an insult to Kobe and anyone that doesn't take losing seriously should be traded. I don't care if we get equal talent in return. As AI once said- "I'd take heart over talent anyday"

I think its ok to smile if you make a mistake, as long as you still learn from it and try hard. Everyone makes mistakes, they are learning experiences.

Clipping your nails during blowouts seems out of place, especially when you are on the job still.

Well they're having fun playing a game so unless it's really stupid or out of place then I don't see the problem

You can smile and have fun when you are winning. If you are losing and still doing it, there is something wrong.

I agree and disagree. At the highest level of basketball where you're being paid multi-millions to play a kids game, you have to play with a lot more pride and conviction out there. Laughing it off once in awhile is understandable, but you better make up for the mistake on the next possession. I just don't like the body language out there from Odom and Kwame most of the time. They just go through the motions and don't really care about the results. Even Mihm gets pissed off when makes a mistake or gets whistled for a ticky tack foul.

At the end of the day this is their job and career, if they don't take it seriously and realize the goal is to win every game and titles, then they have no business playing alongside people who do.

I completly agree. No player in the NBA can do it all by themselves. Kobe needs a dedicated supporting cast and he cant find that Odom or any of the other Lakers. When the team screws around and laughs the whole time it shows that there is no dedication to what they are supposed to be doing every game. Even if its a blow out, the winning team should still not joke around on the bench....It's disrespectful to the fans who watch them turn a great game into a circus.[IMG]

In my opinion I can have fun and still lose. but in my scenario I play basketball for exercise and enjoyment.

If I take on the perspective of being a professionally paid player.

I think I could still have fun and lose as long as I know that I competed and played hard.
