<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Sports Illustrated - The Memphis Grizzlies ' big victory was dampened by an even bigger loss.

Guard Damon Stoudamire ruptured his right patella tendon and left the court on a stretcher in the Memphis Grizzlies ' 93-90 win over the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday night.

"We just lost a big, big part of the heart of this team by losing Damon," said coach Mike Fratello.

The 32-year-old Stoudamire will undergo surgery pending an examination by team doctors in Memphis and will likely miss the rest of the season, said team spokeswoman Stacey Mitch.

"It's really painful for the team to lose Damon," said Pau Gasol. "He's been a great leader for us and we'll miss his great finishes down the stretch."

Stoudamire, who was originally said to have sprained his knee, ruptured the tendon while driving to the hoop in the second quarter.

"I had a layup, but when I went up it felt like a sniper shot me," he said. "It was just a feeling I've never had."

Stoudamire, who played more than seven seasons for the Blazers, was making his first appearance in his hometown after leaving to sign a four-year deal with Memphis in the offseason.

He lay motionless with his head buried in his arm for a few minutes until being wheeled off the court.

"What's crazy is that when I went from the court to the Blazer locker room, I cried. And I cried upstairs," Stoudamire said.</div>

Huge loss for the Grizz. Hopefully he could come back for the playoffs if Memphis makes it.

Ouch. I'd probably cry too. Horrible news for the Grizzlies. Stoudamire has been solid for them all year, and big for them late in games. He was a floor general, and from the comments you read (check Pau), he's a very good leader. It's time for Jackson to step up, and stay healthy for the rest of the year, if the Grizzlies want to make the playoffs and make some noise.

This sounds like a career-ending injury for a 32-year old point guard. Very sad news.

That is really sad, I am a fan of Damon and when I saw that I felt terrible for him. I mean when his leg went out on him like that I about.......well I don't know what I about did but that is sad. Durvasa, you might be right, it could be a career-ending injury for him. I wasn't able to see but did the Blazer fans give him a standing O? I think they did, if they did that is real cool.

Horrible news...he was doing a good job for the Grizzlies too...I guess Jackson will take his spot, and then Antonio Burks and Dahntay Jones will have to step up as well...

Shattering for Damon, the organisation and us fans.

We'll really miss his clutch play late in games, but on the bright side it gives us a chance to get a long look at Antonio Burks.

I have to disagree about it being shattering for the fans. I think that the real reason it hurts us is because we have to play Antonio Burks serious minutes now. I know you support the guy, but I personally feel like the only reason he's even in the league right now is because West is doing him a favor as a hometown fan favorite. Hell, I'm sure he'd love to bring Sean Banks, Earl Barron, and Kelly Wise on the team too if he had the chance. [IMG]

Anyway, back to the topic. Yes, Damon was clutch, but then again, who wouldn't be clutch if they took every shot in the last five minutes? Let's face it, he came up as a hero on more than one occassion, but a lot of times he was the reason we were in that situation to start with. His numbers are at a career low, and he's kept up the same quality of defense he played in Portland, meaning no defense at all. It's sad to loose him so soon into his career with the Grizzlies, but I'd much rather have Bobby Jackson running the show. Now all we need is a solid backup.

I support Antonio because he's young and a Grizzlie.

I'm not sold on him, hell no one has truly seen enough to judge him properly, just want to support the kid and really want to see him make it.

Will he make it? Who knows, but i'll support him whilst he's in a Grizzlies uniform.
