    Artest: "I'm not a top 12 guy"

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">While the Nuggets and several other teams have interest, Pacers forward Ron Artest said Saturday he wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't traded this season, and he doesn't consider himself an elite player.

Artest said he disagreed with a recent statement by Pacers president Larry Bird that he is a top 12 player. He also said the Pacers want a top 12 player in return for him. Artest was an all-star and the defensive player of the year in 2004, but he describes himself as a top 30 player, going so far as to rattle off a long list of players he regarded higher, including Gilbert Arenas, Peja Stojakovic, Elton Brand and Lamar Odom.

    "I'm not a top 12 guy. I'm a top 30 guy," Artest said.

"Don't get it mistaken. I can compete and dominate my competition. I'm not a top 12 guy. But I don't think they work as hard as I do. ...

"Hopefully, I can be there one day with hard work."

Artest is averaging 19.4 points and 4.9 rebounds this season, but has been suspended indefinitely after asking for a trade and hasn't played since Dec. 6. Indiana has been talking to several teams about a multiplayer deal.

"Melo is a good guy," Artest said. "He just plays ball. I've always had respect for him." </div>

Artest just doesn't want this Pacers to get a lot in return for him, bottom line. He's trying to lower his trade value.

Before this season started he had a SLAM! cover, and in the interview he said that he would have led the league in scoring last year if he hadn't been suspended. He said that when the Pacers had the best record two years back that he should have been MVP because he was "the best player on the best team".

Now he claims that he isn't even top 12?

Yes your right, he is trying to lower his trade value, Artest is just being an idiot... Pacers should get this "Artest Trouble" over with in the next 2-3 weeks...

He wont be traded until after the 9th of January. Three of the frontrunners for Artest (DEN, GS, LAL) play the Pacers between now and the ninth of January and Walsh/Bird doesnt want the Pacers to have to deal with Ron. A deal could already be in place with one of those teams for all we know. I highly doubt the Pacers will keep him inactive for the rest of the year, they want to make the playoffs and be as good as possible without distractions.

He's easily better than Kirilenko, but even so your list was 13 people anyway so you proved your point.

But I'd also have JO and Marion on that list, possibly Ray Allen, Vince Carter, and Gilbert Arenas as well..

Much better, no way is Nash better than Artest. MVP? Yes. One dimensional player? Yes too.

Are you crazy? Nash is two dimensional. The guy scores at will, if a team dares make him a scorer, or he racks up double digit assists, and usually, both.

i find it insane that Chris Bosh wasnt in the lists previous since i feel he is top 20. i find it totally ridiculous the fact that 5 of the 7 people you named are ahead of bosh. no way on the planet is dwight howards, camby, or ben wallace better than Chris Bosh, and i dont buy Redd or gasol either. i could understand AK47 or Artest...but even they arent clear cut better IMO.

Actually, all of those players you mentioned are better then Bosh. Howard, Camby, Wallace, Redd and Gasol are all having better seasons then Bosh. If you want me to break out the statistics and debate with you then I'll be happy to do so.

nash is one dimensional. he plays offense but is a defensive liability. he also cant rebound well. Lebron is average on defense, great on offense and great on the boards. Kobe is also 1 dimensional....to him there's kobe's stats and then....nothing else.
