(January 3, 2005) -- The Toronto Raptors announced Tuesday that forward Charlie Villanueva was named NBA Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month for December, 2005. Villanueva is the fourth Raptors player to win the award, joining Vince Carter (March and April, 1999), Marcus Camby (March, 1997) and Damon Stoudamire (November, 1995 and January 1996) on the list of franchise honourees.

Villanueva helped the Raptors to a 7-7 record, posting averages of 14.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 24.8 minutes in 13 games. He shot .527 (77-146) from the field and .765 (26-34) from the line during the month and led the bench in scoring 10 times. Toronto was 3-0 in December when Villanueva netted 19 or more points and 3-1 when he grabbed nine or more rebounds.

The native of Queens, New York registered two double-doubles, including a game-high 25 points on 12-for-17 shooting from the field, to go along with 10 rebounds during Toronto?s 99-97 win, December 30 at Indiana. Villanueva recorded 22 points on 10-for-15 shooting from the field, 10 rebounds and a career-high three blocks (tied December 18 versus Philadelphia) as part of the Raptors? 102-101 victory December 2 at Atlanta.

A product of the University of Connecticut, Villanueva is averaging 12.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 26.3 minutes in 29 games this season, all as a reserve. He has totalled 66 offensive rebounds, the most of any player in the league not to start a game. Villanueva ranks third among rookies in scoring, fourth in rebounding and second in double-doubles with four.

Toronto plays Atlanta tonight at Philips Arena and returns to Air Canada Centre tomorrow night with a game against Orlando. Both games begin at 7:00 p.m.

Chris Paul of the New Orleans / Oklahoma City Hornets was named the NBA Western Conference Rookie of the Month. </div>

I thought Hoffa got a ROM honour last year [IMG]
Oh well, go Big Smooth? [IMG]

Those numbers seem like pretty weak numbers for ROM, in recent years you would see bigger numbers from ROM's. I'm very satisfied with CV's numbers/performance though.

We drafted him mostly for his potential and his rebounding skill.. so far I haven't seen much in the rebounding department and I think he needs to work on it a lot.

Other than that he has impressed me with his versatility and all around game. Like an Odom.
