    Dimesmack on Chuck & Jack

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Toronto?s announcers must have assumed no one was watching the Raps/Hawks game yesterday. Either that or they?ve turned apathetic by watching such a bad team. At one point, the play-by-play sighed and said, ?It feels like a preseason game in here.? A few minutes later, after Toronto worked the ball around for an open jumper he said, ?The Raptors pass the ball more than Atlanta. Everyone on Atlanta is out to get theirs.? Which was later on followed by, "I?ll tell you what, Salim Stoudamire has some onions to challenge Chris Bosh in the paint." And then the big winner from the color commentator last night: ?Chris Bosh is a better player than Jermaine O?Neal.? ? The Raptors prevailed after the Hawks blew a fourth-quarter lead for the fourth game in a row. Toronto improved to 3-0 against ATL this year ?</div>

    Nice find !

Serves them right... The commentary this season has been about on par with the raptors record.

so what? they're biased. name me one pair of home team commentators that arent biased. they arent half as bad as the boston guys, or even the laker guys.

and all they meant by the salim stoudamire comment, is that it takes guts for little guys to take it into the trees...especially bosh, who's a shot blocking presence. oohee! what a crazy comment

as for the bit on jermaine...look at where bosh is at 21 vs where jermaine was at 21. jermaine isnt exactly getting better every season...id say the only place jermaine is better then bosh is at the defensive end of the floor, and shot blocking. id MUCH rather have bosh. thats probably what they meant

i love chuch and leo. big up to them each and every

While I agree Bosh will eventually become better than Jermaine O'Neal, I don't think you can really knock O'Neal for not really producing as much as Bosh at age 21. O'Neal was playing on a playoff team behind Rasheed Wallace, Arvydas Sabonis and Brian Grant. Bosh putting up better numbers at 21 is mostly due to O'Neal not being given the same opportunity; not because he wasn't as good.

That's the first time you're agreeing with a Knick fan.

Anyways, Chuck brought up the amount of online backlash on the air tonight and Jack explained his reasoning. He meant who he would take if he started a team from scratch, basically what he said yesterday. Trust small-time websites to take his words to the extreme.

I think Chuck's gay. Everytime they show him he has his arm around Jack/Leo. I remember one time he kissed Leo like twice on his forehead on his birthday.

That doesn't mean he's gay P.A.P, man everyone is overempathizing this gay crap, Chucks just showing his love for his commentating crew, and having an arm around a good friend doesn't mean you're gay, it means you're tight.

And for godsakes, it's his birthday, it's not like he made out with him!

Got to say I really really hate home town tv announcers. These guys get their paycheck from "the team" so they suck their ass at every possible moment. As someone who watches alot of Raptors games though I'll be the first one to admit that Chuck is a little brown noser, but I find he won't shy away from giving a visiting player a compliment when its due.

I'd just like to add that if I had Chuck's job I would suck ass harder and brown nose better. HEY..THEY GET PAID TO WATCH BASKETBALL AND TRAVEL WITH AN NBA TEAM. I'm allowed to be a little jealous.

I remember watching a re-peat of a taped game from the 1992 olympics on NBA tv a couple of years ago. It took me until the second half to figure out why I was enjoying the game so much. It was because there were no announcers. I don't know why there were no announcers, but in their absence they cranked up all the court-side mics. All I could hear was each player's voice and all the other court noises. IT WAS GREAT.

The Swirsk was one of the few reasons I've watched the raptors this season.

I already vented out my frustration w/ Chuck and his unnecessary bashing of opposing teams and players in the Raps/Spurs game thread so basically, I agree w/ what dimesmack was saying. I understand that hometown announcer are allowed to show bias to a certain extent but Chuck takes it too far imo. One thing about the Hawks game that dimesmack didn't mention was how Chuck kept laughing at the Hawks whenever they turned the ball over in the fourth.... I understand that they were playing really sloppy at that point but still, the way Chuck was laughing was kind of insulting.

As for the Jermaine O'Neal comment, I wasn't too shocked when Jack said it at the time b/c I think Sherman Hamilton (of RapsTV) was saying the same thing even before then.... but anyways, Jack cleared it up during last night's game so it's not that big of a deal anymore.

That sounds like it would be nice having no announcers once in a while, however some announcers like Hubie and Doug Collins are enjoyable to have comment the games. Sometimes Leo has some seemingly unbiased stuff. I still like Chuck, he is passionate for the Raps, just sometimes I don't like how he doesn't give respect due to opposing players.

There's more smack, I haven't gotten a chance to watch any games recently(*sigh*), but Chuck and JAck read the column and took offence and addressed it on the air apparently.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Just when we thought that our lives couldn’t be any more full, the Toronto Raptors commentators apparently went off on us. Let’s recap. In Smack the other day we said the following:

"Toronto’s announcers must have assumed no one was watching the Raps/Hawks game yesterday. Either that or they’ve turned apathetic by watching such a bad team. At one point, the play-by-play guy sighed and said, “It feels like a preseason game in here.” A few minutes later, after Toronto worked the ball around for an open jumper he said, “The Raptors pass the ball more than Atlanta. Everyone on Atlanta is out to get theirs.” Which was later on followed by, "I’ll tell you what, Salim Stoudamire has some onions to challenge Chris Bosh in the paint." And then the big winner from the color commentator last night: “Chris Bosh is a better player than Jermaine O’Neal.”

Evidently Chuck Swirsky, otherwise known as "The Swirsk", and his color commentating partner Jack Armstrong, read Smack and took exception to our comments. How do we know? We didn’t hear it, but enough of our readers wrote in to let us know that your favorite announcers and ours referred to us as "the geek that doesn’t understand basketball and only looks at numbers." AMAZING stuff. The Swirsk apparently followed it up in his weekly online column where he once again told us to "do our homework." So let us clarify a couple things. 1. We’re Chris Bosh fans. The kid obviously has tremendous talent and is going to be a big time ball player for a very long time. We just don’t think that at this point in his career that you can come out with the statement that Chris Bosh is a better basketball player than Jermaine O’Neal. 2. Sure Swirsk and Jack. We’re the geeks.</div>
*BEEF!*, but uhh, Am I missing something? Chuck's Column is dated before the indiana column(atleast the one on the Raptors Front Page is)

oh god, those guys are SO bad. if they were any more on kobe's nutsack, they'd need a surgeon to remove them.

the golden state guys seem pretty crazy biased too...i watched a game through the g-state feed, and they were crying foul EVERYTIME there was any kind of contact...course only on one side of the ball...can you guess which side? lol

not that i think that really matters...personally, while watching the home team, i like having our announcers cheer for the same team i am...i dont see anything wrong with that. ALL home team announcers are like that. its just the way it is...hardly a fault
