If these same Celtics "fans" that voted on ESPN are the same kind that were calling for Paul Pierce's head this summer, or booing The Celtics AT HOME during the last playoffs to the point that Raef LaFrentz was telling the "fans" to cut it out or had me and my brothers wondering why they came to a game to yell expletives at all of the players in kelly green and scream for them to be traded, then I don't much care what "they" think. One.
Winning is not what we should be concerned about right now. Paint it however you want, we have no shot at winning the title or even a playoff series with this roster. What we need to do is look ahead to next year by working the young guys into the rotation. Mark Blount and Raef LaFrentz are not part of the Celtics plan. Not even a little bit. Every second they play is a second wasted. Guys like Al, Perk, Greene, Green, and Gomes need to be playing consistent minutes so they can gain a level of comfort on the floor. They also need to learn the importance of defense, and learn how to play in a defensive system that actually works. Doc's system is horrible, and even Paul Pierce has made recent remarks about how the team needs to practice defense more. Rivers spends way too much time worrying about offense, but it's all a waste because it'll never be a problem considering the offensive skills our players possess. As to who I want, it doesn't matter. I've seen enough of Doc, and it'd be impossible to convince me that things will get any better with him coaching the team. We need a coach that's willing to sacrifice wins so that the youth can gain valuable experience. A coach that knows how to get a team to play D. The longer Doc stays, the longer it'll be until we are a respectable team again.
I agree that we don't need to worry in the slightest about our offence...even in some of the losses we are shooting great% and offensivly we are a top ranked team...its defence that needs major surgery...and in turn a more solid defence will lead to easy offensive chances
25% is too high I've been having problems with Doc all year long. The bandwagon on him getting canned is really starting to get going. He isn't doing a good job. You're right about the offense, this team can flat out score. There's going to be off nights, but there always are. A lot of those missed shots on offense come from having to play catch up with the defense. I've harped on the rotations all year, and they really haven't gotten that much better. Slow rotations mean the collapse of confidence and more defensive freelancing. When you see players doing odd things on defense (like leaving their man to stop penetration when somebody else should be rotating. Pierce does this a lot.) or getting stupid fouls, there comes a point where it lies with the coach. There is no doubt that these players are stubborn, but too many mistakes have been made, and I don't think we're going to see that big winning streak with Doc as the coach. The question is whether we really want to see that streak anyway. Who's supposed to come out this year? I also agree with the assertion that we really shouldn't see too much of Blount and Lafrentz. All those two are doing is hurting the cap, that's it. They are useful in short spurts, if they play hard. Raef usually does, but he doesn't rebound well and his defense is a sad phantom of what it once was. Blount can flat out score, but has less interest in defense than last year's lakers. Play the young'uns, think about another coach, and keep Pierce.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Jerry West:</div><div class="quote_post">Do you honestly think you'd be winning with a different coach?</div> With a veteran, defensive-minded coach who embraces defense, yes, yall would be winning...the Celtics have talent...there's no denying that...the fact is that that talent is being utilized incorrectly...I think a coach such as Doug Collins, Lenny Wilkins, etc would help lots...in fact, I think it would be fitting to see Paul Silas as the Celtics head coach one day, preferably sooner than later...
