<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">LOS ANGELES ? For a Lakers team that has had its ability to focus at crunch time questioned by its coach and has played more close games than anyone in the NBA, Kobe Bryant is building a case that no player is more valuable to his team.

Behind Bryant's 45 points Monday night at Staples Center, the Lakers defeated the Indiana Pacers, 96-90, and the strongest "M-V-P" chant to date echoed through the arena for Bryant late in the game.

Bryant's prolific scoring roll went further historic Monday with his fourth consecutive game of 45 or more points: The only players to do that in NBA history are Wilt Chamberlain (most recently in 1964) and Elgin Baylor (1961).

Bryant could have had more had he shot better than 15 of 21 from the foul line. He made 14 of 32 field-goal attempts when he wasn't racking up fouls on Indiana's Ron Artest-less perimeter. Bryant also had 10 rebounds and a team-high five assists.

It was the Lakers' 20th game this season to be decided by six points or fewer when no other NBA team has played more than 15. Since Lakers coach Phil Jackson questioned his team's scattered minds leading to late-game mistakes, Bryant has played the entire second half twice and led the Lakers to narrow victories twice: Saturday night over the Clippers and in this game over Indiana.

The Lakers are now 9-11 in those games decided by six points or fewer and have won three consecutive games since bottoming out with a five-game losing streak.</div>

I wish they made a video with Kobe just scoring and scoring and have some music playing...then end it with Kobe standing on the court with the camera focused on him....music goes silent..and just hear people chant KOBE! KOB! or MVP MVP!

    so awesome....

You don't follow the Lakers do you. You just look at the box scores, right? If you would've seen the games, you would've realized the only way the Lakers would've had had a chance in the game against the Clippers is if Kobe took over. The Lakers were playing deflated basketball and Kobe picked them up.

And last night, he was 14-32....43%, 1% below his season average. Not bad at all. Keep the hate out of the thread, keep the baiting out of the thread, or you'll be getting a warning from JBB staff. If it continue, you're time here will be short-lived.

Kobe is the man.... The only reason he takes so many shots is because, that's what it takes to win.

Yea Kobe has been ripping it up, 45+ over the last 4, hopefully he can keep this stretch going.

How many 45+ games has Wilt gotten consecutively? Maybe Kobe can take down Wilt's record. (Although Wilt has set some practically impossible feats to defeat these days)

Err... Wilt averaged 50 points in a season, that's pretty much impossible to top.

Do I smell envy. I dont ever go into the Rockets forum and talk ish... Why dont you worry about T-Macs back instead of Kobe hoggin the ball.

Every game kobe has "HOGGED" the ball the Lakers won. Why is it when Kobe scores big its hogging, but when Jordan averages 33 points in a season its called Legendary? Get over it. Get a life.

I just wonder how he does that?
He is truly amazing and I really mean it. I'm not even Kobe fan but I gotta give props if he deserves it. I wonder if we will have another Kobe in this league. Right now I admit Kobe>Wade and I'm a big Wade fan.
Congrats Lakers fans for having the best player in the league.

Well I think the term "ball-hog" is not being used in the right context. A ball hog is someone who shoots a lot, but doesn't care about winning or losing. I don't think anyone here can question Kobe's desire to win, therefore he is not a ball hog. He's just an aggressive scorer, same goes for Iverson, Areanas, McGrady, and a lot of the other premiere scorers in the league.

Kobe does take his fair share of bad shots and gets overzealous during stretches of the game. But the majority of the shots he takes are ones he can make and are within the framework of the offense.

By the way, Wilt's record is 9 consecutive games of 45+ points or more.

He probably had multiple streaks of 45+ during that season, but the longest of those streaks was only 9.

    Thanks Shape,

Well that isn't as impossible as I thought Wilt's record would have been, Kobe has a longshot at it. We'll see if it continues against the Blazers tonight.

He has 28 so far late in the 3rd. He is going to need 17 in the 4th, which is quite a difficult task even for Kobe.
