<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Fiyah:</div><div class="quote_post">Well we never said it was the answer... but guess what? Do Philly fans refrain from booing Kobe when he comes to play? Remember the all-star game in Philadelphia? What about Miami fans? Most players have had to deal with that at some point or another... I doubt that it will affect Shaq at all... its more a show of support from a player who did as much for the franchise as Shaq did yet has suffered harshly at the hands of his many detractors... and he is still playing his heart out for LA.</div>

Kobe being booed by Philly fans is a whole different story, in my opinion. Kobe never played for the Sixers. The reason he is booed is because he said Philly is not his hometown, LA is, and Philly felt disrespected. Not to mention what he said in the Finals in 2001.

Obviously Shaq will get booed, that's a part of the game. Is it right? No, not in my opinion. I think when he is introduced he should be cheered, but during the course of the game it is natural for fans to boo the opposing player, no matter what.

Shapecity, the TO thing is a whole different situation too. Shaq didn't do the things TO did. Shaq brought three championships to LA alongside Kobe; TO brought none to Philly, even though he helped the team get to the Super Bowl.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I don't get it... every other player that leaves a team they were a big part of by their own design gets booed when they return to play there... why is Shaq different</div>

Does Chris Webber ring a bell? He doesn't get booed by Sactown fans. T-Mac does in ORL, because of the way he left the organization. Same with VC in TOR, but the difference between them and Shaq is that Shaq didn't fake injuries, bad mouth the organiation as much as they did, etc., and he did bring three championships to LA with Kobe.

You guys can do whatever you want, but in my opinion Shaq deserves some respect for everything he did for the Lakers organization. When he retires, he will be remembered for his career in LA. He should be cheered when he is introduced (obviously there will be a mixed reaction), but during the game of course he should be booed. No sense in cheering for the opposing team's players during the actual game, is there?

I hope that clears up what I meant.

Shaq is a traitor to the Lakers organization. He may have brought championships but he is still a traitor. You could easily compare this the Red Sox situation. Damon helped bring a championship to the Sox but do you think he'll get cheered for when Yankees play the Sox? Team loyalty is a lost art in many sports these days [IMG]

A lot of people come into this forum and hate on Kobe, and obviously it only stirs up negativity and tensions rise. Is the only way to show your a Kobe fan attributed to how much you hate on another player?

I think you are one of those people that come to stir up the negativity. It seems as if you always talk down about Kobe and the Lakers. Just another hater in my eyes.

I agree with your Red Sox and Johnny Damon scenario, but I'm cool with that because I'm a Yankees fan! [IMG]

As for the rest about Shaq, I think it really depends on a person's view of the Lakers' break up. Obviously Kobe fans are going to stay loyal to Kobe, but from what I know about the situation I feel the Lakers betrayed Shaq to some extent. Obviously I don't know the in's and out's like Lakers fans do because you all followed that stuff. Again, it really depends on your viewpoint of the break up.

I totally agree with your last statement. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think AI, Kobe and KG are the only players in the NBA that have been with the same team for 10 or more years (Duncan falls in that category next year).

I've been a true Laker fan for 15+ seasons and I have never once booed Shaq when I've seen him on court.

I understand that Shaq did alot for the franchise, but I also understand that he has taken alot of shots at the franchise as well..

Booing Shaq is not the answer, and mature and loyal Laker fans know this. I will always be a fan of Shaq and what he's done for our Laker Organization. But the booing was coming to him after he took shots at the Lakers organization and at Kobe too

I started this thread to organize some "true" Laker fans to show support for your Laker team by boooing Shaq. Shaq was disloyal to the organization. It would be one thing if we cut Shaq because he was old and could not play up to a certain level. Then yeah ok, don't boo Shaq. But, Shaq demanded a trade because he knew the franchise was no longer going to be built around him and it was going to be built around KOBE and he knew KOBE was going to get paid. So he was jealous! He cried to the Lakers that they better pay him and when he knew he wasn't going to make more money then KOBE it got to him. He was traded to Miami and so the disloyalty followed. It makes me sick to hear his stupid comments about the organization and about our franchise player KOBE. Then it made me even more sick when I was at last years Christmas game and he got a standing ovation. (It's not like he was Jordan when he went back to Chicago as a Wizard, also Jordan didn't leave in a bad way) Come on Laker fans he's gone!! He doesn't wear a Lakers uniform anymore. ALL TRUE LAKER FANS ASK YOURSELF THIS QUESTION, DO YOU LIKE THE FACT THAT THE ENTIRE MIAMI ARENA WAS CHANTTING KOBE SUCKS,KOBE SUCKS? (WHEN ANY TRUE BASKETBALL FAN KNOWS HE DOESN'T SUCK) DO YOU THINK THEY WERE CHANTTING KOBE SUCKS BECAUSE HE SUCKS OR DO YOU THINK THEY WERE CHANTTING KOBE SUCKS BECAUSE THEY WANTED TO SHOW SUPPORT FOR SHAQ? MIAMI HAS NO REASON TO HATE KOBE!! SO WHY DO YOU THINK THEY CHANT THAT? I KNOW YOU GUYS KNOW KOBE LIKES TO HEAR US CHANT KOBE,KOBE........OR MVP,MVP BUT I THINK JUST FOR THIS GAME HE WOULD LOVE TO HEAR US BOO SHAQ AND SHOW HIM THAT WE SUPPORT HIM AND MOST OF ALL SUPPORT THE LAKER ORGANIZATION FOR THERE MOVE OF GETTING RID OF SHAQ!!

Can you really hate Kobe for pressuring Shaq to get in shape to be a better player? You're in this league to play hard everynight, not win a championship, put on 50+ pounds, and indirectly call it quits. Shaq is not only screwing himself by being lazy, but also screwing the fans who pay a Sh!t load of money to see him play.

Why are you so quick to label others? Doesn't it tire you when people judge Kobe with only a distorted view of his life? (the media only shows things to cause drama and sell their articles)

The situation is a lot more similar than different. Shaq did do the things TO did, I listed them out, here they are again.

    - Demanded an extension and wanted $33M per season
    - Nursed minor injuries to make a statement
    - Aired his frustrations to the media
    - Bad mouthed the organization
    - Bad mouthed his teammates

At least TO stayed in shape during the offseason.

Webber didn't demand a trade from Sacramento either.

Shaq didn't fake injuries, but he sure took his sweet time recovering. He also didn't stay conditioned and at the proper weight which is the cause of his extra slow healing and constant injury problems.

Shaq to this day continues to bad mouth the Laker organization.

After he got his extension in Miami he's become the lazy complainer again. Just go read through some of those comments Heat fans are saying about him. They are disgusted with his efforts on the court and most are regretting ever trading for him.

Agreed, he has earned the right to be cheered when he retires from basketball and returns to Staples. He has earned the right for his jersey to be retired and hung up in the rafters. But until the day he retires, he deserves to be booed.

Of course not. But it's time for Laker fans to start supporting this current team, letting go of the Shaq-Kobe era, and getting more passionate at the games. Shaq is the enemy now, you boo the enemy and cheer for your guys. It's a simple concept.

Dude you need to get more info on why true Laker Fans hate Shaq. He disrespected the whole organization beginning with the Buss and he started the conflict with Kobe when he was rookie and called him names. Even Tex Winter mention that Shaq slapped Kobe in practice. I definitely support Kobe. Shaq is a hypocrite. He bathmount his teammates and organization at Orlando, Los Angeles and will do the same again with the Heat.

It was a good trade for the lakers anyways they didnt need Shaq he was WAAaaay past his prime and he would probably been 100 pounds heavier with tons of injurys. The lakers went in a new direction and the future looks bright. As for Shaqs he is slower then ever [IMG]

Thats what I'm talking about. When he retires and we hang his jersey up. You best believe that I'm going to be there cheering for him. But, when he comes to Staples ON JAN 16. I'm going to boooooo his fat, lazy butt and for all the smack he talked about KOBE and the organization I will be at the entrance with a group of friends holding signs about SHAQ when the team busses come in. Any ideas on what the signs should say??? If your on this board and you feel the same way about booooing SHAQ then come by and say hello. All my friends and myself will be wearing the MVP KOBE'S jersey..

    His-TOE-ry for sure.

Since it's a home game, it's gonna be shown on FSN (fox sports net) and they tend to show those signs that have the channel's acronym on the sign a lot more.

for example ( a really lame one at that )

    Forget
    SHAQ
    NOW

lol, u get the point, just a thought.

Nevermind, I just checked, TNT is hosting the game, not FSN, damnit. (good news for us high def TV owners =)

Damn, I can't think of one for TNT, forget it, just stick to HIs-toe-ry lol

I actually thought it was because he said that he would "tear AI's heart out in a game of one-on-one". He was booed at the ASG that year, but I don't think Philly was feeling disrespected, they were just supporting AI. Although it's gotta hurt to be named ASG MVP and get booed in your hometwown.

Just a few days before the ASG that year he had his jersey retired at his high school, so he still supports the city.
