If this happens, it will officially be Tice's last hope at salvaging his career. The reports right now are that Tice will take over play calling for the game against New Orleans. I don't know if I like this idea or not. Right now I think we would have better luck using a lottery approach to picking the next play that we run. My confidence in this coaching staff is completely gone. Benching Bennett made absolutely no sense at all. The guy does not have a history of fumbling problems, so 2 fumbles in one game is definitely an abnormality. He had 3 carries for 36 yards when he was pulled. He was running very well. Mewelde Moore didn't fare nearly as well as Bennett. Furthermore, we needed a homerun to get back in the game. The only homerun threat we currently have is Bennett (at least as long as Culpepper is throwing INT's). I'm willing to give Tice a chance to call the plays for a game. If we go into the New Orleans game and show a relatively dominant performance I will be encouraged. I will actually stand behind Tice as the playcaller and be the number 1 advocate for him to be the offensive coordinator. Until the coaches show some ability to calm Culpepper down and get him back to his regular form (about a 70% completion passer), and someone get in Ted Cotrell's face to implement a more attacking defense then this wussy 'bend but don't break' approach that we are using, and until Tice shows that he can make logical decisions rather than a knee-jerk reaction during the game, it will be a long-long season. My best hope at this time is that our new owner, Zygi Wilf, knows some great coaches for next year.

Anyone else! Who do I want? I don't really know, but I know who we will probably get in the end. I think Tice will be here for the rest of the year. Is Jimmy Johnson available? If Tice lasts the season, look for the Vikings to hire up Jim Fassel. Zygi Wilf was a huge Giants fan before he became the owner, and Fassel is a decent coach who is trying to rebuild his career. The question is, will Tice last the season? There is a lot of speculation right now that if the Vikings go 0-4 he will be fired during the bye week. I like Zygi. I think he's going to make a good owner. I'm sure he's rather dissappointed to spend $625 million only to be embarrassed in his first two games. I think when he does make a decision, it will be to win games in the long-run, not to get the cheapest coach available like Red McCombs tried to do. Tice will find a job as an assistant, and maybe be given a head coaching job again in the future when he learns more. Right now he just does not seem to get it.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Pats37)</div><div class='quotemain'>But if fassel's offense continues to look as horrid as it does..do you think he'd really be deserving of getting another head coaching job?</div> It would definitely cause some worry, but we have to remember that Fassel brought a club to the super bowl that didn't have nearly the amount of talent that the Vikings are sporting right now.
I think the Vikes will beat NO. They have a huge chip on their sholder and need a win badly, so i think they are gonna come through finally next week
Charlie Weis wouldn't leave Notre Dame. He's back home in a storied organization...I think he's there for a while. I would be really happy to have Pete Carroll back in Minnesota. He was a defensive backs coach in the late 80's which set the Vikings up with one of the more dominant defenses of the late 80's, early 90's. He may be a possibility if someone can coax him away from USC. I was talking to someone today who told me that Fassell didn't have an official position with the Ravens (he is more of a consultant) and therefore could be available this season. I'm not sure if I would advocate jumping ship even 5 games into the season, but would that even be a possibility to lure someone like Fassell away mid-season?
Wade Phillips? Gunther Cunningham? Bill Callahan? Dave McGinnis? Erm...there really isn't much out there right now. Hey! Art Shell!
It could get worse. Pitt could fire the vanilla one and Tice could hire Dave to be his offensive co-ordinator. Sorry, that was a real low blow but couldn't miss scoring on that opportunity. P.S. <u>Score</u> one for the literary sniper. If pithy observations were TD's, I'd be Pitt's leading scorer this season.
or the redskins D coordinator, he coached the bills and has done wonders with the redskins D. Or the steelers D coordinator
I've said this about 10000 times...Vikings are nothing without Randy Moss....And they may recover, but Culpepper still hasn't adjusted to this type of offense. Moss created confusion for the D. He was a major source of talent. But now he has smaller sources of talent, he just has to get use to it...but for now he's not going to do too good...
