Well we're in it and it seems we won't be out of it until the deadline. Walsh/Bird are two stingy, stingy men.
Walsh is smart if you ask me. If he waits until a team loses someone and Artest is a quick fix he may get more for them, or there's a team that's a borderline playoff team like the Warriors, they may get desperate and give up more. On the other hand, they're gonna make the playoffs regardless and the Pacers have plenty of time to integrate the new player(s) they get after the trade deadline to give them a push.
http://www.ajc.com/hawks/content/sports/ha...112hawknot.html Harrington of the Hawks said he was told that the clips are going to trade Maggette for Ron Artest. Deal to be finalized soon. Guess that's that...
that sounds like a good trade for both teams. i wouldn't be mad about that...i would be mad, however, if the pacers trade artest for devean george.
good news Harrington was talking out of his ass. http://www.nba.com/pacers/daily_confidential.html Walsh says there's no deal with the clips.
I hope we can add a new all-star because we sure need one. But above all that we need a big man that can rebound, defend, score inside, and pass from the inside to the outside. I don't think we can trade for that. Kevin Garnett wouldn't be the ideal inside player, but he'd sure solve a lot of other problems the Warriors have been having and he'd be versatile.
At this point, this team needs such a major shake up I would be willing to give up Jrich for a proven All Star like Artest, KG, McGrady etc...
^^yeah, but i wouldn't quite throw artest in with kg and tmac. the only way i'd ever justify trading jrich is if we get an all-star future hall of famer that's not over the hill yet.
Even with a roster like T-mac and no Yao the Rockets find it hard to win. We need an inside player for a true inside/outside game and we need to play smart basketball. If we give up Foyle or Murphy or whoever for Artest and let one of our big man rookies get some burn, I'd be all for it. I just don't feel good about giving up Taft, Biedrins or Ike. And Monta Ellis is our insurance policy for Baron. I just would rather give up Murphy or Dunleavy. Pietrus or Zarko I'd deal if it's a given they will not be re-signed. I hope we re-sign both but that might not be realistic if we need the space to re-sign our big men in the future.
Okafor or Dwight Howard would be good targets. While Artest has a rep for D,for intensity,he also is not a guy who adds stability or harmony, and just as important,we can't bet he stays here after his contract ends. When his next contract comes,if he's not in the doghouse,he will expect a max deal...so Artest's $ could be equal to the future Pietrus-Zarko deals combined. Meanwhile we STILL are crossing our fingers that one of our prospects becomes a solid C.

Not even Twardzick would be that dumb. Good big men are that hard to come by and they make the difference for the team both offensively and defensively. They are the only way to make a team truly play well from the outside since they support the perimeter play, score high % points in the paint and force double teams. We've got to find some way to get good value for Murphy/Foyle and improve our power positions. It's too soft and weak to do anything effectively on both ends. Plus, they aren't the best decisionmakers or passers.
I've thought since day 1 -- and still do -- that Dwight Howard is going to be straight up top-tier all-star matieral in this league. Kid can play.
