I really don't know why would Mitch, Phil or anybody without a brain tumour would trade Odom for Francis. Not only is he getting paid less, Odom is a more talented player, and with his versatility and the fact that he's being any thing but a headcase in LA, the Lakers would be much much better off keeping Odom. Now, if you're talking Kwame/Smush/2nd for Francis, you may have something, and even then, I don't think Buss and Co. will be drooling over this idea.

I agree that the Lakers are better off sticking with Odom, but if attitude played no part in a decision i'd take Francis everytime. The guy has shown he's capable of being a superstar, something Odom has never really done. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting Purple Fever:</div><div class="quote_post"> Now, if you're talking Kwame/Smush/2nd for Francis, you may have something, and even then, I don't think Buss and Co. will be drooling over this idea. </div> Even with Kwame's stupidly big deal there's still a massive gap in salaries, Lakers would need to put in Devean George's expiring deal to make it work.
See Jerry, there's where I disagree. I think regardless of the attitude and the financial aspects of both players, I still say Odom is a better player than Francis. Also, just to counter argue your point, IMO Francis never reached superstar status. He was an All Star, yes, but superstar? Far from it.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Jerry West:</div><div class="quote_post">The guy is almost 29 and is making about $15M (roughly) per year and he has a sook because they traded his best friend? That's a pretty pathetic excuse given he's supposed to be a professional.</div> Ever heard of anyone who quit a job to protest a colleague/best friend's unfair treatment from his employer? In Francis's case, this is of the same magnitude, the difference is that this job pays you $15 million a year. Francis isn't the consummate professional and he has been known to let his emotions cloud over his behavior, but the guy is a talented player. Or maybe you just have a grudge against him because he spurned your favorite team.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I'm getting really sick of players "demanding" trades... I wish Orlando would do what Indiana is with Artest, sit his ass down and wait until you can get the most value</div> That's a horrible idea. The reason Indiana can't get a fair deal is because everyone knows they HAVE to get rid of Artest. Benching Francis indefinately just shows the entire league that they can offer **** for him.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Purple Fever:</div><div class="quote_post">But he never was a Superstar, which what matters.</div> I never said he was a superstar, so your entire point is both moot and totally irrelevant. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting Locke:</div><div class="quote_post">Ever heard of anyone who quit a job to protest a colleague/best friend's unfair treatment from his employer? He's actually a great team player, mature and the consumate professional, i just hate him because he did the dirty on my team.

Even if it was a normal job, you don't quit it because you company "tansferred" your best friend. That's just unprofessional. That's if we're talking about a normal job. But .. this is professional sports. It's a prevelige not a right. You signed a contract that says you'll play for team X for a Y years, and you have to stick by it. Some of these players made too much money too soon and it has gotten to their heads.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Locke:</div><div class="quote_post">It's all John Gabriel's fault. The Magic had been winning games, Francis was having a career season, and it all fell apart when Gabriel traded Francis's best friend Cuttino Mobley. For an emotional guy like Stevie, you should know that trading his best friend who was actually playing great and had no reason to be traded, you'd tick him off. Ever since, Francis's career has been on a downslide.</div> That is partially true. We were winning early on in the season, but we were already on our downswing(we had lost 4 out of 5 or something like that and were just getting back to ..500) and JOHN WEISBROD(not Gabriel, although Gabriel was a horrible Gm for us as well) felt that we needed to do something to get back into the right situation. We were playing good the only problem was our franchise(Dwight Howard) wasn't getting any touches, he got maybe 2-3 shots a game from passes and the other 2-3 shots were his hard work on the offensive glass. Also Jameer Nelson was rotting on the bench. We did sacrifice the season with that trade, but it will help us out in the future. If we still had Mobley then Dwight wouldn't be developing as fast at all.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Jerry West:</div><div class="quote_post">I wouldn't even trade Howard for those three, let alone putting Francis and Jameer in as well.</div> I know it would never happen, but I don't think many other teams will accept a hot headed player. Indiana and Orlando both have the same problem and that is that they both have a useless star on their team, and maybe the only way to settle this is if they traded Francis for Artest. I am sure at least one team (Indiana most likely) would benefit from the trade. Artest would not want to play in Orlando. Just throwing it out there. And players demanding trades is really beginning to piss me off as well. If they worked out a deal with their GM to be traded to another team silently (or threaten that they will demand a trade publicly if they do not) then both the player and the team should most likely benefit. They will get the full worthe of the player at the time, and the player doesn't look like an ass.
I totatly agree with igotask8board about players demanding a trade publicly. Because a players value goes down once other teams know he wants out of the team hes already in. Not good for the player or the organization.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Best Kept Secret:</div><div class="quote_post">Last I recalled he loved Houston he even tried to say he would not report to Orlando to begin with, because of the love he had for the city of Houston. As far as where he might end up I will name the usual cities that are involved in almost every rumor Los Angeles and New York. Outside of that I could see a lot of teams taking a look at Francis I mean is Francis any worse than Artest? If Artest generated as much interest as he did when he was put on the market, 16 teams at least according to Indiana called, I could see a team who is one piece away from becoming an above average team, or contender taking a risk on him. Francis is still one of my favorite players in the league, but he never really looked at home in Orlando from the moment the Mobley trade went down.</div> artest dosen't demand even 1/4 th of the money francis does thats why so many teams were interested!
i mean... if u think more and more about it stevie wasn't going anywhere when he was first traded to the rockets... his agent told him not to go to practice until the media goes down.. but he did... and cuttino saw him and they've been friends since... if it wasn't for cuttino, stevie might not have been given minutes to show his talent... so if i was him.. i would be sad... he didn't do that bad after the trade.. it was this season he did terrible.. i think it has to do with losing alot... ppl just don't understand...

Vince was mad and his numbers were basically at career lows in Toronto and tehy finally dealt him and he was happy again. That's why I think we will get 2 scrubs and a 1st at best case scenario.
