ESPN is reporting that the Magette for Artest trade is off the table due to Maggete's injured foot. It looks like the ball is in Mullin's court, the Pacers want Ike Diogu as part of the trade of Artest with Mully offering Murphy or Dunleavy instead of Diogu. I am starting to believe as certain members of this forum have been saying for the longest time that this Warriors team as it is configure will not produce anything other than maybe a playoof apperance of one series and done. It is even obvious to me something has to be done to re energize this team. As any gambler knows the bigger the reward, the higher the risk. Artest is a big risk but if we want to play with the big boys we have to take the risk. I really don't care at this time what combination of players we offer the Pacers but other than Baron and to a lesser extent J-Rich everybody else should be consider as a part of a trade. The question of Monty's coaching ability should not matter at all in making the trade for artest. Let's worry about Monty's ability to coach Artest after we get him, remember coaches are easy to replace if they don't work out.

I would not give up Ike, Jrich, or Baron. Everyone else is tradeable...

^^agreed. andris is somebody i'd like to hang on to as well. and i'd rather trade dunleavy than murph. i just hope that something happens soon, it's hanging over everyone's heads and i think it's messing with the team's focus...not to mention, mine.

I am not as excited about Biedrens as others here. He played great last year, but I am more excited about Taft's potential than AB's. I would also like to get rid of Murphy's ball hogging butt than Dunleavy...

Baron, JRich and Diogu are untouchable.

Actually if Artest wasn't such a nutcase, I would consider trading JRich for him if it was the right deal.

It would be terrific if Mully could swing a Murphy for Artest deal. That's ideal, because Ike can slide to the 4 and Foyle and AB can fill in temporarily at the 5 until we can make another move there.

But I wouldn't be willing to give up Ike, Pietrus, AB, or ya know what even Monta or Taft for that matter. Indiana is in no position to bargain for our youthful prospects.

Look, the Pacers have already said goodbye to Artest. They have forgotten him as part of the team. Of course they're going to try to finangle the best deal in a trade, but at the end of the day, if all GMs do as they should and not bite at anything but a steal-of-a-deal, the Pacers should consider themselves lucky to land Dean Garrett -- ala the GS Marc Jackson trade lol.

Artest would be an interesting gamble, and perhaps the answer to many GS problems, but they should hold out and keep Murphy on the table (and the youth off it). The only other chips in play should be Fisher, Cheaney, and of course Foyle. The way Dunleavy has played of late, he at least will be a more flexible option in the GS rotation; Murphy can only fill one role as a stand-around spot up shooter.

At the end of the day, Murphy is going to be the best player Indiana will be able to get, IMO.

Let's hope they agree with me.

Apparently he met with the Clippers organization yesterday so they could see where his mind was at before dealing Maggette. The Clippers were confident Artest is ready to contribute and be an impact player for them. I think it's significant the Clippers were actually willing to trade CMaggs for Artest straight up. For starters, CMaggs is a HUGE fan favorite, and is very close friends with Elton Brand. The Clippers were willing to give all that up for Artest.

The ideal trade would be parting ways with Murphy. I think the Pacers trade exception is enough to make it a straight up deal.

I know Larry Bird was a big fan of Troy Murphy when he played at Notre Dame. The Pacers could always use another big man who can extend a defense and Murphy is ideal to punish Shaq in the pick and roll. This trade works out good for both teams IMO.

If we traded Murphy for Artest that would be ideal because we get rid of a ball hog and land artest without giving up young potential in Pietrus or AB. I would not be against giving them Pietrus too though. If we do give up Murphy we are really going to get killed on the boards...

Totally agree! Big man prospects that play like big men are hard to find anyway. I bet the talent pool is already tapped out after last year's draft. I mean Brandon Bass, Chris taft, Blatche, the 7'3 Lithuanian went in the 2nd. I bet we don't get as lucky in the 2nd round or late first round if we avoid the lotto with forwards. Hopefully a Joe Johnson or Danny Granger type small forward lands in our lap. Look at Dallas who picked Josh Howard at 30th. We don't need to give up important big man prospects for guys that could bring similar impact both offensively/defensively. I'm not trying to underrate Ron Artest here, it's just that I don't think he's going to put the franchise up ahead when the biggest problem is our lack of talent inside, rebounding and ball movement. I'd trade our ballhog for theirs though.

Notre Dame is in Indiana, right? Murphy's alma mater is a perfect fit! Other nice fits -> Boston Celtics (because he is proud to be Irish) and New Jersey Nets (Born in New Jersey).

I'd like to trade Murphy as well, especially if Fisher can be moved as well. That's my dream scenario. Let's see if Mullin has some magic left in him.

I would love to deal him NOW for Artest. He doesn't play any defense, doesn't move without the ball, shoots a poor percentage, can't shoot a layup, can't use his right hand at all, doesn't box out, can't move his feet, doesn't pass the ball and frankly thinks he's a lot better then he actually is.

Unfortunately he's BYC and that complicated things. Supposedly the TE could help in this scenario. Murphy is fool's gold. Double double looks nice but we know he can't play the man's game.

If we just get one very good defensive player, the entire team will soak it up like a sponge. We're a young team that wants to win. Artest is one of the best defenders in the league, it'll help...If Walsh is asking for Murph, trade him Mully. Next step, find a new coach.

My fear is that Walsh isn't asking for Murph, and that's why the deal has stalled. He probably wants -- like he said publically -- young prospects, cap relief and draft picks. Mullin should hold on tight to his cards and leave the chips where they are, however. Diogu, Pietrus and AB should not be traded. It would be a faulty long-term move. Moving Murphy, whatever happens with Artest, would be a good thing, because frankly his contract is too big and we won't be stuck in a position of weakness like we were with Dampier; we have Diogu, Taft and Biedrins to possibly play the 4. So moving Murphy IMO is a good idea regardless of what exactly we get in return (although obviously it should be the best deal possible).

Further, Moving Murphy's large contract means flexibility when it comes time to make a decision on which prospects to retain. Remember, we're going to need some $ to sign Pietrus, and eventually decide on AB, Ike, Taft, and Ellis.

I'll live if Murph moves on and continues to average a double-double. I'm actually a fan of his but he's not been a good fit at all lately, and Ike at the 4 makes oh-so-perfect sense.

I think Indianna is just digging a deeper and deeper hole for themselves. Now that Francis is also on the block alot of teams may have some interest in him, namely Minnesota and Denver, who are among the leading candidates for Artest. Indy may end up having to settle for a deal that is worse than what they could have gotten. It seems like they are looking for a young big man as its been romored that they've asked for Diogu, Al Jefferson, Andrew Bynum, etc. They are really going nowhere and teams are becoming impatient.

As for making Biedrins untouchable, I totally agree. I think Diogu is the future of this team at the 4 and so we need a 5 that will complement him. Diogu is destined for being a weakside defender, he does pretty well in this aspect with good help defense and weakside shotblocking. Andris would complement Diogu very well because he makes up for anything that Ike doesnt do well; on-ball defense, good size, very good rebounder, does the dirty work. Taft could potentially be this guy as well but I'd prefer Andris because he has more height and hes a better rebounder.

I think at this point, I am open to the idea of dealing Murphy for whoever just so we're not stuck with his contract and so we can move Ike to 4.

Artest is not going to be thrilled to join a sub .500 team.

Look, what has he ever won? Nothing, check out his HS, St. John's and Pacers record. He's just the latest flavor of the month, the "quick fix" that is pervading our society.

How about demanding some hard work from the current roster and demanding some accountability instead of giving the players a pass and just dreaming of a major trade or coaching change to bail them out.

Who has to demand the hard work? We'd all love it if the players would play the way we want them to but they arent and its the coach's job to get them to play correctly. Monty isn't going to demand the hard work and the players seemingly won't change if they arent told to do so, so what other solutions do you have?

I'd love it if the players woke up this morning and said "Wow, I need to take better shots, move off the ball, and pass more." But they arent going to do that. The coach has to tell them how to play and Monty isnt doing it so should we just conitnue what we are doing now?

Well, Artest won Defensive Player of the Year in 03-04, and runner up at DPOY at 02-03. And, we are 24th at both scoring allowed and opp. fg% from 4th in early 05-06. And, I don't think anybody has a problem with Davis and it's 'quick fix' trade. Bottom line is that something has to be done.

Yeah, players just won't wake up and say "I will sacrifice myself for the greater goods of the team." At some point, Monty needs to step up and organize our disfunctional team. It has been more than a month where we allowed horrendous opp fg%, especially in first quarter, and we hardly saw any solution for this problem. Instead of solving problems, it seems like this team is quickly dissolving into chaos.

I will give Monty till end of this year. However, anybody agree that nothing short of PO would be a huge let down, and right now, we are nose diving to the lottory land...
