<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">After a frustrating loss against the Northwest Division's Utah Jazz last night, Sixers Head Coach Maurice Cheeks ran the team for a 2.5 hour practice today at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, the team's practice facility.

Much of the discussion after practice was over was about the team's poor defensive effort against the Jazz, what can be done to fix it, and the team's rotation and starting lineup.

“Well, we watched some film last night, worked on mostly, all defense you know that’s how we have to try and do better look at our mistakes the things that we did last night and go out on the floor and try and correct them,” said Cheeks after practice. "We gotta go over it - its gotta be a little more repetitious on the defense end throughout our practices we’ve practiced defense but we’ve done a lot of offensive as well. You cannot practice defense without practicing offensive, so today was more concerted effort on the defense, but also going through some offense, but its it’s going over repetitious of getting guys in the right positions, getting some talking out on the court just getting guys to understand what they need to do, in terms of being a better defensive team."

Cheeks wasn't the only one that was disappointed with the Sixers defensive effort last night. Forward Chris Webber was also troubled by it.

“Our record is troubling,” Webber said. "I think we just have to play team defense. We have to play. We talk about playing together. Just means as a team defensively and when there are mismatches defensively just help each other out and stop the problem before it become a problem. So, just playing together, and I have no doubt we’ll do that, I have no doubt we'll come together, I have no doubt we’ll better our record and play better."</div>

I remember the Sixers were giving up somewhere like 101 points per game early in the year...can someone inform me on if their D has improved? they're my second favorite team but I have a hard time following them here in Texas...

There defense is probably the same as it was earlier in the year, if not worse. I haven't caught the last two or three games though because I've been partyin' all week.

We'll see if this practice makes a difference. That big practice on rebounding with Moses Malone was huge as we came out the next game and outrebounded Portland 60-30.

Well whatever we see in this game don't get too excited or too worried. If they play horrible defense as usual that's just part of the process if they Grizzlies like defense don't get too excited because all that matters is if they can keep it up.
