He singled out Devin Harris, Adrian Griffin, Jason Terry and Jerry Stackhouse as players who were "battling out there." Clearly, it was the players Johnson didn't mention - Erick Dampier and Keith Van Horn among them - who drew his ire. The Mavericks fell behind by as much as 18 points in the first half and allowed the Knicks to grab an embarrassing 28 offensive rebounds.</font></font></div> Link Like I was telling VeN on AIM, I want Avery to give these guys some serious talks. Tell Damp that he's in danger of losing his starting spot unless he starts trying harder and (eg) boxing out more. I think Avery is a great coach, and he's got all the players respect. Now it's time to use that respect in return for a favour
Dampier seems to respond to pressure for a few games and then looks for calm waters. Van Horn is an enigma. He seemed to have a very strong work ethic but obviously Dallas expects him to block out injuries, hit crucial 3 pointers and control his zone in rebounding. He is a necessary player this year because Stackhouse's minutes will be limited. And apparently Daniels has an unusual injury that could end up ending his career if the team isn't careful. Kurt Thomas should have ejected for 10 games.
