I was at the Hawks-Wizards game today. Great game, went to OT, and the Wizards won capitalizing on a turnover by Salim.. Still, Salim had 21 points, and was a great spark offensively despite his turnover in OT and getting blocked once in the paint.
I ask, why does Salim not start or get more minutes?? Is it his defense?? Inexperience?? It's gotta be something, because this kid can shoot. He hit a trey 5 feet behind the NBA 3-point arc..

No body doubts Salim's ability to shoot, its just that he's what 6-1 and an SG. He has PG skills that arent NBA caliber but he's not a bad player, its just I think matchups. Woodson probably plays him when he thinks he can take advantage of someone, if you look at the box score for this game the SG was Jared Jefferies who's a lot taller and slower, and much less of an offensive threat than a player like JR Smith, or Kobe Bryant.

Buckets had a good answer. Another reason might be that NBA success means having two and you hope three players who do not start that are as good as starters, who when you bring them in the game kicks into a different gear. Remember how good that Gatorade was after two hours of practice?
Well, Salim is the human equivalent of a power bar.

Will Salim develop into a legitimate NBA pg down the road, or is he stuck at the two?

who knows man? its kinda early to tell but it depends on his desire and the will to WORK HARD, if he works very hard like gilbert arenas(dude was willing to stay in the gym 24/7) then of course he would be a niiiice pg+sg

I wouldnt compare him to Gil though because Gil is far more athletically gifted, I would compare him to someone like his cousin Damon Stoudamire because of his ability to shoot, and well there related. But logically I think thats the best case scenario for Salim as a PG, but if he's an SG he could be a better version of Eddie House.

Salim is already confident. If he were to be a full time starter at the two spot alongside JJ at the one, he could be a devasating scoring guard like AI. JJ and SS could just switch over on defense. Although from watching the game yesterday, I don't think JJ is a true pg, but a excellent all around player who can pretty much play any position.
